I religiously use certain products from Paula’s choice but cleansers were never part of them because i’ve always been underwhelmed by their cleansers. However, i purchased the defense cleanser while buying my regular stuff as i was in the market for one as my usual cleanser from Kora Organics ran out.
I must say i absolutely love this cleanser. It was really a pleasant surprise and i’m very impressed. It lathers into a light foam and cleanses well without leaving any tightness or dryness. My face felt clean and hydrated after. I still love Kora Organics and will probably go back to their foaming cleanser in colder weather as i find it more hydrating but i will def keep this within reach.
I must say that the defense line products i have tried so far have mostly been quite good for my skin.
Bottomline is: This cleanser is very low irritation, cleans well and doesn’t dry out the skin. It also has a great texture.

I have been using this cleanser for one month and a few weeks since end of September. At first it was really nice, cleansed my skin really well, skin was smoother/brighter a bit, not drying etc. However after last week, my skin couldn’t handle it anymore. After each wash my skin was feeling dry/tight/dehydrated which made my skin turn red since it was irritated. I had to switch to a gentler cleanser to fix that. I think this work best for people with thick skin/oily skin type/not the sensitive kind. It would work best during the summer time when it’s humid. However for winter time/cold weather, I wouldn’t recommend, because it is strong. My skin always feels really clean after one wash with this cleanser.

I have dry/combination skin with rosacea. I wear various tenacious mineral based sunscreens (Paula’s Choice Super Light SPF 30, SkinMedica SPF 34, Elta MD UV Daily SPF 40) which require a thorough cleanser to remove. This cleanser starts off as a thick gel and then, once water is mixed in, turns into a creamy low foam lather.
It demolished my sunscreen and left my face feeling squeaky clean but not irritated or dry. Being a gel to cream/foam, it might not be suitable for those with extremely dry skin (eczema, for example, should steer clear of this one) but I think most would find it enjoyable to use. It rinses extremely well – no feeling of a film with this one.

Update: I gave the marks too soon. I do still think it’s like cerave foaming but it does remove makeup way better than Cerave. Also a dime’s worth is all I need because it is concentrated. Like usual at night I double cleanse but even that due diligence still sometimes leaves makeup residue. This cleanser gets most if not all of leftover makeup, and since I use after an oil cleanse it has not dried my skin as much.
This cleanser is a lot like Cerave. I tried the Defense cleanser one day and then Cerave foaming the next day. Same face feel and actions or non actions I should say.
The Defense cleanser will remove makeup if you use several tries of it. It does dry my skin a little. It produces a nice foam that is pleasant and is not too much. Fragrance free and packaging is ok.
But this cleanser is so ordinary. There is nothing in this cleanser that sets it apart from similar products like Kiehls, First Aid beauty and yes Cerave. I can’t sit back and enjoy this cleanser since I know I can get cheaper and same results from the drugstore. PC prices have really increased in the last couple of years so I have to love the product to keep using it.
I have rosacea so need to find a cleanser that I love and stick with it. If I’m going to use PC’s cleansers on my rosacea I will use the Skin Balancing if I’m oily; the Calm cleansers if I’m dry. But I still use and love my Obagi cleanser which does brighten my skin. I should stop messing around with my skincare.

I like this a lot, and I have sensitive skin. It’s a thicker gel and a little goes a long way. The scent is mild and not unpleasant as is the case with the Earth Sourced cleanser, which I love in every aspect except scent. Takes all makeup off and rinses cleanly. Totally irrelevant, but I also like the bright pink packaging.

I really wanted to like this. It removes makeup well without stripping the skin. However- beware if you have sensitive skin. Something in this made my skin red!!! I don’t get how they can claim it protects against pollutants and defends your skin when it can’t even be used on sensitive skin.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this product as I think it is basically an overpriced gel cleanser. I have used several gel-to-cream cleansers and I really liked them, this is not a gel-to-cream cleanser. It is a gel-to-foam cleanser. It is non-drying, did not bother my eyes, and does not have much of a scent so those features are a plus, but it is a foaming cleanser, I wanted a cream cleanser to help remove makeup. I would suggest using Eucerin’s Redness Relief Soothing cleanser as it is basically the same thing, at about 1/3 the price.
