AHHHH I’m so depressed that I forgot to check MUA for this product before taking a gamble and ordering from barneys.com (no stores in my area carry Le Labo ANYTHING).
First off, the first review is completely spot on. I purchased the vintage version for $60 which is 6.9 oz and comes in an ugly haphazardly-dented-on-purpose tin/aluminum can (looks like a mini paint can). Who wants to upcycle something that ugly and why does that make it vintage? Not only that, but the insides are dented as well so the candle itself is actually shaped like an uneven octagon. The 8.6 oz version comes in a glass jar and costs $70. Aside from the packaging, Pin 12 in the jar and Vintage Pin 12 in the tin can are the exact same candle. Good news is that both packaging options are completely recyclable and the candle is 100% vegan. The pros stop there.
The scent is so unoriginal. I read two different blog reviews that sold this as a Christmassy scent (I LOVE the smell of Christmas) so that is what convinced me to purchase. My boyfriend says it smells like a generic but nice men’s aftershave. Le Labo’s description of notes says pine woods, musk, amber. I don’t know how to describe it but it doesn’t have enough of the Christmas spices in it to make it smell Christmassy. There’s almost too much amber and musk and not enough fresh pine. But I don’t think fans of amber would be sold on this either.
Most importantly, the throw on this candle is very weak. I could barely smell it after burning for 3 hours and I was burning it in my very small kitchen/living room.
Overall, I’m completely disappointed that the 6.9 oz cost just as much as Diptyque 6.5 oz candles but the scent is not unique/great, throw is very weak and packaging is super ugly.

This is the most expensive candle I have ever burned (£41!) and one of the most disappointing. I don’t like the packaging. I don’t mind the Le Labo bottles as, although the labels aren’t the prettiest things in the world, I do like the shape of the bottles (though I do object to the fact that the boxes are far too big to keep the bottles in after you’ve opened them – the same incidentally applies to the candle). The candle has the same ugly label over a clear glass jar which is oddly curved like a cheap tumbler. I would much prefer something straight sided. The smell in the candle is a nice evergreen without the disinfectant connotations but not, in my opinion, as nice as Diptyque’s more Christmassy Epicea and more woody Cypres (neither of which have I ever burned). However it’s the throw which I object to because when the candle is lit, I just can’t smell it and for £41 I expect more than that.
I should say that I think the candles are larger than the standard Diptyque size so you get more for your money but it’s not enough!
