It’s cheap, it works but the packaging breaks easily.

Sometimes there’s a reason why things are cheap…. Nice colors, glides right on, precise tip but absolutely NO staying power. Sure I have oily skin, but other brow pencils (my HG NYX micro brow pencil) are still able to last. This one, no joke, will smudge in less than 10 minutes after putting it on if you as much accidentally wipe your eyebrow by accident.
I’m sure there are work-arounds to this, like powdering your brows before but honestly who has time for that?

I was looking for a new brow pencil and saw that this was only $5 for a pencil. Not hard to convince me, especially when Colourpop’s website is so helpful at suggesting the color for you. This pencil twists up for product, but it is not retractable. Not being retractable is not my ideal, but not a deal breaker. It also comes with a spoolie, which is helpful normally. However, with this particular pencil, which is super creamy and pigmented, the spoolie tends to smudge the product. This may be because I have super sparse brows. Despite this, the product stayed on well throughout the day. This pencil is for very bold brows, not natural looking ones. This product makes my brows look like I am wearing pomade, which is not my style these days but not necessarily a bad thing. If you love the bold, Instagram/pomade brow look, then this pencil is definitely for you! I will not repurchase since it is a little too bold for my style at the moment, but I would definitely recommend this pencil to others.

TLDR: Good formula, and shade matched me well. Packaging is terrible because spoolie end broke. Will not repurchase because there are comparable/better options out on the market at around the same price point (purely judging it on the quality of product and what else is out there). I have also had a bad experience with their customer service and I do not want to support a shady/sketchy company.
FORMULA:
The formula of this brow pencil is very buildable, and the pencil is very thin so it’s great if you like to draw in hair-like strokes. I would say it has a relatively harder consistency, which allows it to be buildable because I find overly creamy brow pencils tend to be too pigmented. I really do enjoy the formula. I can draw in very soft, natural looking brows for everyday but I can also create a more bold & dramatic (in my view dramatic, I tend to like natural makeup) brows.
SHADES:
This product comes in 4 shades, and I have tried the shade dark brown & soft black. I have black hair so for brow products, I look for cool-toned/ashy shades.
Dark-brown swatched cool-tone on my hands, but when I applied it to my brows I can see a hint of redness in it. I used it up because I didn’t want to waste it. I think if you have dark brown hair (as the name suggests) this shade would be good for you.
Soft black was better, I couldn’t see any sort of redness, so it is a much better shade match for people with black hair.
PACKAGE (biggest criticism):
As mentioned before I have tried 2 shades, dark brown and soft black, and with both pencils I had problem with the packaging, so I don’t think it was a batch/one-off problem.
When I first tried the product, I noticed the caps on the spoolie and pencil were very tight, which is good because it means the cap won’t come off. HOWEVER, after 1 week, the spoolie came off along with the cap, so in effect the cap on the spoolie + the spoolie itself detached from the body of the pencil. I think my description of this is very poor, but the spoolie is just “fitted” onto the end of the body of the brow pencil, and can come off very easily if you pull on it very hard, and since the cap on the spoolie is very tight, you need quite a bit of force to open up the spoolie cap, which is why the spoolie end came off so easily. The same thing happened to me when I tried the second pencil in the shade soft black, so I think their design on the packaging could be improved.
There are other brow products out there that have a much sturdier packaging at the same price point, Etude house, holika holika, la girl, just to name a few, I’m sure there are others out there as well.
General comment on customer service & brand ethic:
This is just a general comment on Colourpop’s customer service, in particular be very weary if you do not live in the US. I have placed several orders from them before, and the first few orders were dispatched within a few days, and nothing came broken. However, their customer service in my most recent order was bad (I picked up the brow pencil in that order). They took over one week to dispatch, which is understandable because they have been growing, but nontheless it is a reflection on their service. When I received the order more than half the products were damaged; I got some palettes and highlighters, and only around 2 of the items were not damaged. I wouldn’t say this was Colourpop’s fault, because they did wrap it well, BUT what shocked me was how they dealt with the problem. Since I am not in the US, they could not send me a replacement, which I think is fair because the shipping cost would be a huge burden on them. It took them quite a few days to respond to me, and they just issued me a “coupon code” for the value of the products that were damaged. Note the coupon also had an expiry date within a few months. In effect you HAVE TO SPEND ON THEIR SITE AGAIN IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, so I am essentially forced to buy from them again to ensure I do not throw around 40usd down the drain. Since I am an international customer, I am subject to paying import tax and so forth, so this is also something to keep in mind if you don’t live in the US. This is just my personal opinion, but I find their practice to be sketchy and shady, because they are trying to lock you into a purchase (that you have to pay tax on and it could arrive damaged again), so they can generate more sales. I emailed and asked for a refund instead, and they did refund in the end. On all the other sites I have shopped on, the other sites had a much better response time and were happy to either send replacements (to an international customer) or give a refund on the broken item, none of the other sites tried to lock me into a purchase nor did I have to fight for a refund. The way they dealt with my problem is a reflection of their values and their (lack of) business ethics.. If they think it is fine to implement shady lock-in strategies to generate sales, then there is no way for consumers to know what other kind of shady things they will do behind the doors in order to generate growth.
Just another comment on the coupon code – ColourPop has sales often and have codes to activate the sales offer; in essence if you made a purchase during their sales offer (which is activated by a code) and also wanted to use your coupon code, you either only use your “coupon code” from the damaged items, or you don’t use it (and run the risk of it expiring) and only use the code to activate the sales offer. I might be reading too much into this but this just makes it seem more sketchy and shady, because if they wanted to lock in their customer they can do store credits or some other ways.

Received in an ipsy bag, so the price was right. Love the color (light/medium taupe) and texture. It applied so smoothly, and the fine twist up point gives natural feathery soft application. And the spoolie on the end is so convenient!
Am fair skinned with light, rather sparse brows. (I never plucked, but am naturally under-browed, lol) This pencil outperforms my Chanel brow pencil, with was up to this point my favorite.
Will for sure repurchase.

Pigmented for drawing on skin where there isnt any brow hairs. Will stay on the whole day, one con is that its darker than appears on the web images so use sparingly. For this price Id recommend it. It was better than the Nyx micro brow and the benefit brow zings that doesnt even stay on the skin where brow hairs are sparse, like the brow tails

First off, I have this in Blondie, which ColourPop describes as a light cool-toned ash blonde. I have ashy blonde brows, though I dye my hair brunette, but this works well for me, since I just want to darken my brows slightly and add a bit more definition, and this works well.
It’s a really skinny little pencil, one CP tells you not to advance too much at once because I guess you can’t reverse and lower the pencil. That goes against my instincts because I want to advance it and see what I get, but I’ve resisted. It applies pretty well, though. Kind of a happy medium, I’d say. It’s not so hard and dry that you’ll never see it show up on your eyebrows, but it’s not so creamy that it’ll smear all over. (I did once make the mistake of over-advancing the pencil somewhat, and it did break off — just a bit — so take note.) At the opposite end is a spooly brush (with a cap so it won’t get gross or bent) that works well for combing brows. (It’s not a super sturdy brush, but good for gently brushing through brows and blending the product.)
The color is kind of a cool blonde/taupe. It’s not super dark, which is good for blondes, and it’s not reddish, which makes it a win for me. (I’ve tried so many “blonde” brow pencils that are more reddish tan or reddish brown than anything.) I like the cool color, and that it is light enough to be subtle but I can build it up as well for more brow impact without the end result looking like I’m aiming for Instagram brows. Staying power seems decent, and it never seems to migrate.
I like it enough that I bought a second one to have on hand once the first gets used up. For the $5 I paid for it, it works well, and the color is really good for someone seeking a cooler/light-to-medium brow pencil.

The color Charcoal-Anthracite is okay for dark hair (I have black hair and black eyebrows). This is not your typical super slim brow pencil, the tip is kinds rectangular but still very slim and allow you to have a precised application. What I didn’t like about the product is that the actual product breaks very easy and you need to be very careful in order to not waste product.
