I’ve been having difficulty lately finding the correct shade for brows since I’ve allowed my hair to gray naturally. This palette has been so helpful. To get the appropriate brown shade, I mix the blonde and the black shade. The brown color is quite warm so I haven’t used it for brows. I have used this for eyeshadow and they perform well in that regard and the highlight shade is subtle. This will last a lot longer than a pencil. I also like the wax.

This is a really good kit in terms of the product quality and “mix-ability” of the shades to customize for your brow.
I have used Anastasia, Lancome and Chanel products to cover gray as well as fill in the sparse areas of my brows so I compare this to those.. I have my brows colored but for the in-between times- this kit is terrific. The wax is very smooth and clings to the color palette very well. I don’t find it flaky. I sweep the provided brush over the wax then dip into the color palettes (3 shades are provided so you can really customize) then smooth over my brows. It stays in place all day and I have never had any dripping or smearing. The minuses: lack of a magnified mirror in the compact (hey Clarins- some of use use this to cover grays- we can’t see that well!) and the brow mascara-like wand (too small) and tweezer (you would have to be pretty desperate to try to use it) Overall a 4 lippie for me.

A very nice eyebrow kit. I use all 3 colors (sometimes as eyeshadows as well) and all 3 are great. Staying power is very good – my eyebrows look same in the evening as they did in the morning. I don’t use the peachy eyeshadow a lot. It’s a bit too matte and is somewhat chalky. The mini tweezers are also quite useless. They are just too tiny. I would recommend it. I think it’s going to last me forever. I’ve had it for like 8 months and it’s still nearly full.

I’ve never really done anything with my eyebrows.. they were naturally beautiful for a long time. So the past 2 years I’ve decided to have someone professionally shape them. Oh the angst! Sometimes they do a great job and other times… Well I’ve been debating growing them out full again. I’ve used Benefit’s Brow Zing.. the original where it was a wax and only one shade. I actually like this product a lot but they no longer sell it. I’m African American so my eyebrows are true black… but my hair isn’t exactly what a feat.
So a lady at Macy’s told me about the Clarins Eyebrow Kit. I was skeptical but she showed it to me anyway. The kit is a nice shiny metal compact similar to the metal you see in those retro cigarette compacts. Its a nice size compact with a large mirror. It comes with 3 brow shades (black, brown, blonde), a brow/shadow brush, a brow comb, a highlighter, clear wax, and small mini tweezers. I really like this kit as the shades look very natural, not harsh and not overtly artificial like many of the eye pencils, waxes, or pens I tried out earlier at Sephora. You can easily apply the pigmented shadows on areas where there is no hair and it doesn’t look like an artificial contrast between the hair and skin. Which I love as when you’re trying to grow out your brows you don’t want that contrast one gets when you apply color to bare skin.
I can wear the brown color too… and the blond! As you can combine the colors. I apply the black and then use the blond at the very tailing of my brows… it makes a great tapered look without making it look extreme. The wax can be ifffy as it doesn’t readily warm up with room temperature so sometimes it can apply kind of flaky. But you can use it without the pigments to hold your eyebrows in place and it does. I also like this wax because its not shiny wax so when you apply this before or after the pigments, it helps to give you a real natural look.
I guess that’s why I also like this kit is that you can go intense dark or you can go natural and anywhere in between. You can achieve a highly manicured look or .. of course my favorite.. natural.
The brow brush to apply the pigment is alright. I think it could benefit by being a bit stiffer so you can carefully apply the pigment where you want. However, I found that if I applied the pigment first and then the wax I could get a thinner line. Applying the wax before the pigment has a nice touch to it too, so it really depends on the user and what affect they want to achieve.
The eyeshadow is what they call “Rosy Beige Eye Colour” used as a highlighter to the eyebrow line. As an African American who wears, now, a Deep or Very Deep Ochre in Shiseido (Zazu in Julie Hewett, Sable in Lancome) foundation, I thought the Rosy Beige shadow would look horrible on me.. but it doesn’t! It doesn’t look ashy, it blends in really well. The only thing I don’t like about it is that its matte, so if you put too much on and the rest of your makeup is dewy or if you have oily skin, the contrast may stand out unless you use a mister all over your face to set.
The kit comes with instructions on how to use the entire kit and it goes over the basics of eyebrow grooming (where to start the brow, end the brow, etc.).
Its a highly versatile kit as I sometimes use the other pigment shades as eyeshadow or liner (as they call it as eye contour). It lends a nice natural look so like if you wanted to accent your eyes while working out at the gym, this is what you would wear, not your traditional heavy eyeliner.
I’ve also used Anastasia’s Brow Wiz. This kit is a tie for the Brow Wiz as the Brow Wiz is half the price, and has a finer point for you to draw, shade, and contour so you have more precision and the brow comb is excellent on this product. However, you don’t get the 3 shades, you don’t get tweezers you don’t get an eyeshadow to contour and its not a wax formula.
Some of Clarins packaging doesn’t hold up to a messy purse, so I’m waiting (hopefully not) for this compact to fall apart.
Its a great kit. I give it a 4+. lippies.
UPDATE: I’ve mastered this product a little bit more since the original posting. The wax is still a little flaky but the key to this is to warm it up by gliding the brush over it a few times. I was getting annoyed that when I sweat the pigment color would get dark and I would look like Groucho Marks. But what I learned was to dab the brush in the pigment and then glide it over the wax a few times on both sides of the brush and then apply. I get a very nice and natural look and fill in. Nothing looks crazy when I sweat after doing this step.
I just hope they come up with small an inexpensive refills for the wax cause I fear I use it so much (alone and with pigment) that I am going to run out soon.
