Always on the hunt for a great brow product and with blonde hair and dark blonde brows it’s often hard to find the right shade for my tone. This was labeled as shade 100 Blonde. It was still slightly too dark for me but would have been passable if I was going for Cara Delvingne brows.
Here is how Maybelline describes it :
Brow Drama® Shaping Chalk™ Eyebrow Powder
Bring on boldly filled, softly-shaped brows with Maybelline’s first ever eyebrow powder. The loose powder formula fills in smooth color, while the thick-to-thin brush applicator creates instant definition. Flawlessly shaped brows are made easy.
This is not a product that can be used on it’s own and needs to be used in conjunction with another brow item like a pencil or cream to shape the edges while this fills in the center. It describes on the package how the thin edge side can do thin lines and the wide paddle side can fill in with color.
It sounds so simple and what could go wrong? Well, the powder has a LOT of fallout all over your cheeks is what. I’ve tried blowing off the excess and tapping it off to prevent it and it doesn’t prevent the powder from falling all over with application. I’ve tried wiping it first to remove the extra, but then there wasn’t enough to do the job so that didn’t work either. Cleanup is easy and it brushes right away but I shouldn’t have to clean up after. I am in a rush enough at 5 am getting ready for work and I don’t have time to do extra steps like cleaning up after a messy product. It also does not do the edges like a pencil or cream can (I get that it claims softly shaped brows) but it looked messy and needed that edge created by a pencil and it needed too much fiddling with overall. This does look great once you get it on. It doesn’t stay well though and even with a setting spray I was seeing patchy areas in my brows in a few hours and had to do some touch up.
I am very disappointed in this one and I did call Maybelline though and inform them why I didn’t like their product so they can make some improvements. If you don’t mind fiddling with this, it works okay but I don’t have time for it so it’s a not a fit for my lifestyle and needs.

I just read the first review on this product and laughed about it being “released to the public” :-)… I totally get the comment, it was UGLY the first couple times I used this lol! But for my very sparse brows this gives me a fairly dramatic, thicker brow that looks much better than pencil.
There is a ton of powder on the applicator when you first take it out- tap it out to get excess product off. And apply carefully! It deposits a lot of powder so it’s easy to over due it. But if you are careful to shake off excess and apply with a light hand it looks amazing. I usually get a baseline with a MAC pencil as a shaping guideline and then add this over it for lasting dramatic brows

I have almost no natural eyebrow hairs left. Most pencils or crayons wear off or accidentally wipe off. I’ve also tried the messy microfibers. This Maybelline shaping chalk creates a decent thickness and if I want to taper off the ends I can just turn the wand sideways for a thinner line.
Beware that the first touch deposits too much so best to wipe the wand coming out of the tube. My favorite so far for creating eyebrows.

This is the first time I have added a product to MakupAlley, but this stuff is so bad, I had to. I don’t know what Maybelline was thinking with this. Do actual people try these things out before releasing them to the public?
It is a powder formulation in a tube, with a sponge applicator at the end of the wand. You are supposed to use the side of the applicator to outline or for smaller areas, such as the tail of your brows, and the flat surface for filling in. I really didn’t get very far. In hindsight, I should not have tried this when I was getting ready for work. I had tried it out my hand first, to get the feel of it. It applied heavily, so I knew I was going to have to use a very light hand when applying to my brows. I tapped the wand a bit to remove excess powder. A lot of powder came off. It was a mess to clean off of the vanity. Anyhow, then I started applying it. What an ugly mess. Even though I had tapped off the excess, the fallout was incredible. Onto my lids, under my eyes. And it looked horrible. I found it hard to really control the application, and it went on too heavily. It didn’t look precise, it just looked like a mess. I am really disappointed in this product. I paid almost $10 for it. Returning makeup is rare for me, I usually keep it and think “my mistake”. But this is going back. I think it’s just a really bad product. By the way, I tried soft brown. It was pretty dark.
Maybe others will have better luck. I wouldn’t take a chance of trying it again, as I had a really hard time fixing this mess enough to go to work and not have to completely redo my makeup.
