The Aaliyah collection was supposedly designed from things in the late singer’s makeup bag. She favored 90’s browns with no pinkish tones, and also loved greyed lavenders and rich golds. The bronzer “Baby Girl” is about the most perfect bronzer for me (medium light beige neutral skin tone) but oddly not suitable for someone of Aaliyah’s deeper rich skin tone. The cases were a nice tribute to the amazing singer who was lost so early (her talent and self-possessed style at a young age always impressed me) but the collection was hit or miss. I liked many things from it but it was not perfect. I think I was slightly taken by it because her story which is so tragic and mixed with big helpings of high success and low points of abuse and tragedy always touches me.
It comes in the limited edition satiny burgundy case with her signature and it’s discontinued at this writing but available here and there. If you can find one and you have lighter skin and want an all over bronzer that doesn’t make you look dirty, this is it.
The color is a suntan color like suntan color nylon stockings and has a bit of shimmer but goes on without a lot of sparkle. Golden with orange undertones and some golden pearl, and very sheer. Not heavily pigmented, so you can dust it on as a blush or to warm up a complexion but it won’t work as a contour. If you can pick one up and it works for you, a nice addition to a collection. I would hope MAC would reissue the color as a bronzer for lighter ladies but perhaps a dupe will come out later. It is about the most perfect bronzer I’ve every found–texture, color, finish. Ain’t that always the way it is, you find something you like and POOF.
