Just for the record, I have never been a Chanel blush sort of girl: I’ve always admired bloggers who have comprehensive collections of every shade ever released by the brand – and they do look sublime in group shots, but I’ve always been happily wedded to my Bobbi Browns (and more lately, the delicious Hourglass Ambient Blush palette) and the pigmentation has the oomph to show up on my usually-tanned skin.
I stumbled across the Chanel Sunkiss Ribbon Powder Blush Harmony online whilst I was lemming over buying a pretty-looking combination colour blush (that I really don’t need) – Givenchy’s Le Prisme had been on the horizon but I just couldn’t get happy about any of their colours. So it was total serendipity that this Chanel offering cropped up on my radar and, for once, I’d found a limited edition product before it was out of stock. I bought mine from the Chanel make-up store in Covent Garden as most other places were already out of stock. I have no idea why the name is so convoluted though.
The big draw that swung me round to this product was the strong pigmentation in colours that I would actually use: the swatches that I saw online were noticeably different from the usual Chanel offerings (most of which would be limpid on my complexion). I wasn’t sure about the light pink shade which takes up a lot of space in the pan, but its juxtaposition to the strong coral meant I could easily blend the two for a stronger colour. The bronzey shade is also handy for adding some dimension to my contouring colour (I use Burberry Earthy), although I wish there was more of it in the palette.
The whole thing comes in a velvet pouch with a separate mini punch for the brush (which I never use) and the palette is housed in the standard Chanel black plastic compact: I still think no one beats Burberry for their luxuriously heavy polished cases. There is a strong rose scent as soon as you lift the compact lid, but it disappears soon after application. And I luuurve the detailed ribbon embossing (which has survived a week of daily use so far), even though nothing tops their Dentelle Precieuse from last year.
The colour is drop dead gorgeous, which really surprised me. The powder applies so evenly, especially as I am going through a slightly bumpy phase on my cheekbone area: my NARS Lovejoy doesn’t fare so well with uneven skin, but this Chanel blush just breezes over the minor bumps with an airbrushed finish. I use the bronzey shade over my contour area, but the main star is the pink/coral combination over my cheekbones which add a definite pop of colour but looks incredibly elegant at the same time. I always suspected no one can really notice if you’re wearing a different blush from one day to another, but this Chanel blush certainly adds a “je ne sais quoi” to my overall look. GORGEOUS.
As I have only used the colours selectively so far, I do wonder how the pan would fare over time but that’s not an immediate worry. I have travelled with this Chanel compact and it’s very handy because all the colours are in one place: it’s definitely a one-up on my other blushers, where I have to take at least 2 shades separately, or the Hourglass Ambient Blush palette, which doesn’t travel at all.
The Chanel Sunkiss Ribbon Powder Blush Harmony is a limited edition, and as much as I am tempted to buy a back up right now, I suspect there’ll be some other limited edition offering which will tempt me once I finish this one.
