I bought this based solely on Stelz’s review below and I’m pretty glad I did. She’s right – this is TOTALLY the color of the cheek color used on old hand-tinted black and white photos! It’s surreal, really. It’s a very pretty color. I knew it was going to be a bit overwhelming on me what with my very pale skin, and it is.
The brush kicks up a fair amount of the nicely pigmented powder and I tap or blow off the excess. It wears fairly well and I think if I weren’t having to use such a spare amount so as not to overwhelm my cheeks, it would do even better.
I actually actively hate the packaging – the twist off lid, while probably historically accurate, is just ten more seconds in a morning routine when I’m trying to slap a face on before my kids demand breakfast – and it looks retro, but retro in the cheap, unpleasant way, like dime store makeup. The box it came in was adorable, however, and that has made it into my vault.
The product isn’t exactly right for me, but I’d still repurchase and would love to buy one of the lighter colors so I don’t need to be so delicate.

As much as I love my Besame Cream Rouges (and I still have plenty in spite of daily use – a little goes a long way!) these powder blushes were just too tempting to pass up. That sturdy little Art Deco compact with the mirror and the twist-off lid was enough to win me over all by itself. As for the blush itself, it’s wonderful – 1915 Rose really DOES have a very authentic tinted-photograph look that I never quite got with anything else. It’s hard to describe, but I can say there’s nothing else like it. Nice, soft “roses in your cheeks”, even though it’s the darkest of their new powder rouges. It’s all pigment, but it’s delicate pigment, if that makes any sense.
I will never give up my cream rouges (they’re temporarily unavailable as of this writing, Besame said on their facebook page that they’re designing new packaging) but the powder rouges are just the thing when you want a soft, old-fashioned look.
