I know you shouldn`t be taking hot, scalding baths, but in Japan most homes lack central heating and the evening bath is a national ritual to warm up and stay so at least until you crawl into bed and fall asleep. I have been looking for bath salts that are beneficial and will not damage the skin barrier, and after watching a Dr. Dray video, I decided to give these Aveeno oatmeal sachets a try. They are a wonderful remedy for dry, winter skin. After I soak in a tub of this anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes, my skin never feels tight or itchy, and my hot tub is set for a constant 41C. Slap on some CeraVe moisturizing lotion while the water is still dripping off me, as soon as I`m out of the tub, and I`m all set. These have become a staple for my winter baths since last year.

I use this not in a bath, but as a facial mask. I used to pulverize my own oats in a nutribullet and mix with water and apply as a paste to soothe my acne-prone skin. It helped, however this version is better because it’s colloidal oatmeal which is finer particulates of oats and is more soothing and beneficial for skin. It’s also a lot smoother to apply, kind of like a clay mask. A little goes a very long way and 1 box will last me a very long time.

I love this product! I live in an extremely cold climate and my skin is extremely dry and itchy. Every 2 weeks I take one of these baths and let my skin soak. Afterwards, my skin feels so soft. It’s a tad expensive in Canada ($15 for 8 pouches) but I do think it makes a difference in my skin!

I had a severe allergic reaction to antibiotics that landed me in the ER with an RX for steroids and Benadryl. Although they helped with the hives, the itch that still existed was brutal! My doctor recommended this product to help me get through the tail end of the reaction. It is not a cure by any means, but they did significantly help soothe things, and make me more comfortable. I have very sensitive skin, and am VERY allergic to things (obviously lol), and was nervous to try this new product. Luckily I had no negative reactions, and have had great luck with Aveeno products overall. This is definitely a keeper!

This makes my irritated skin calm down immediately, I put these in the bath with me every time. Even when I take detox baths it really helps because I have sensitive skin so having the oatmeal in there is perfect!

Amazing daily soak during an eczema outbreak and once a week afterwards to maintain sensitive skin. I love and trust this.

I started using this product regularly back in 2006 due to suffering from Interstitial Cystitis. An incurable bladder disease that causes you to feel as if you always have a mild UTI and your pelvic floor muscles to become dysfunctional; unable to relax. As per my urologist, an important part of my ongoing treatment was to take two 15 minute baths per day in order to help relax my pelvic floor muscles. And the only product I was allowed to use in the bath was plain Aveeno Oatmeal bath. Not only did it protect my skin, much to my surprise it improved it. I realized after several years that this product when used often enough helps to repair and protect the skin barrier which is how my skin improved. Therefore, after many years of using various exfoliating products on my face, such as microdermabrasion, scrubs, acne medications, AHA’s, etc. I realized when I reached my 40’s a few years ago that these products had done some mild damage to my facial skin barrier. I had a sort of light bulb moment and decided to try this as a facial mask. Well, after a couple years of once per week or every other week using this as a facial mask, my skin is so much more manageable. I still get occasional breakouts, but they clear up much faster. I still have somewhat enlarged pores, especially around my nose, but I believe that is hereditary. I still get the combo dry/oily skin. Although, my skin is more dry than oily now, especially my cheeks. I have learned to just be more gentle with my facial skin overall. And, I credit this product for teaching me to be careful of damaging or breaking down my natural skin barrier. I agree that the packets are not the most cost effective. However, I use half for a bath and the other half is good for several facial masks, as well as stock up when it’s on sale. I also realized after years of using this product that it has a cleansing property, so it does actually cleanse your skin when you bathe with it and it is very gentle for intimate cleansing which is super important for anyone with chronic illnesses of this nature. I, of course, am no expert of any sort. I am merely describing my personal experience and make no claims by any means that this is any sort of miracle product. In my opinion, so called “miracle products” do not exist. This is simply, in my opinion an excellent product. To that end, I cannot say whether this would work the same for everyone. And, it is likely that my more mature skin from my mid 30’s to nearly 45 yrs old now works better with products such as this than say my 20 something skin may have. It’s all so much trial and error, but I think treating our facial skin gentle is a good rule of thumb whether you try this product as I’ve described or not and no matter your age.
One last tip, when I use it for a bath I sometimes wet it into a paste on my hands, same as I do when using as a facial mask, and rub onto my body skin. I then get in the bath with already applied to my skin rather than pour into the bath under the faucet. I find this avoids clumping you will experience when pouring in and rather it melts off your skin into the bath water to create the soak as it is intended. Sometimes, though I am lazy and just pour half the bag into the bath. 🙂 Well, I’m sorry this review is so long, but I hope that it helps someone. I certainly just find it to be a very soothing product and it is a staple in my house.

These are expensive but life saving if you have eczema or allergies or dry skin. I have had all of those since I was a child. I discovered these in college and all ways keep a pack around. They are just finely milled oats and dissolve in water. Makes milky bath that soaks out itchy impurities and dirt from your skin, while softening and soothing. Must never use very hot water, as that is harsh on the skin. It does club so pour in under the faucet and break up clumps ity your hands. It is a bit of a chore to clean the tub, but it’s great for your skin. You need to soak for 15 to 20 minutes. You can add oils to the bath too if needed. Gets rid of those eczema flakes and blisters. It really helps with itchy red skin. Gentle soaks are a good way to deep clean pores if you have sensitive skin, without rubbing and scrubbing. This has helped me so many times with bouts of eczema and dermatitis. You will need to moisturize after the bath if you are dry skinned. . This for any skin type. The baths are great if your whole body is irritated. If yor face is irritated mix it a bowl and make a paste or, better yet, make a mask. You can make a wet paste and apply where needed. You can buy DIY sheet masks. Put them in the bowl with aveeno and water untill they fully expand and unravel. Open up the mask and soak the whole thing and the. squeeze out the extra water and place on the face for 15 to 30 minutes. Rinse off excess.. This is a great way to clean out your pores without hard scrubbing. Great when you are red and flakey from over exfoliating. Even for breakouts. i am better at avoiding full body eczema breaks outs and and my tub isn’t that deep. I use this more for masks and pastes. But I have bathed in it many times in my life. Great for children with eczema or anyone with senstive dry skin. It’s expensive and you can grind your own, but generics. Hard to make or find anything this finely ground though.

I always have a box of this in my bathroom, for my little boy to keep his eczema at bay. I have oily skin, so it’s been a whole new learning experience for me having a child with severe dry skin, including eczema patches. I thought having oily skin was bad! I had no idea of the pain dry skin can cause! I took my little boy to the Dermatologist, and of course he now has a very extreme creme that he uses, but it’s so medicated! I mean it’s a corticosteroid. I will use it on him if he gets a severe patch of dry skin, but I try to stop that from happening by having him bathe in oatmeal treatments and rubbing him down with Aveeno nightly. If he gets dry skin at all, he will scratch it in his sleep, and make it worse. It’s just awful, he ends up with a patch of dry skin that bleeds. I didn’t know what it was at first! I couldn’t believe it when his dermatologist said it was just eczema!
This stuff is worth buying if you have eczema, or a child with dry skin!!!!! I can’t stress that enough! Also make sure and finely ground the product in your hand to help it dissolve under the faucet while your bath is running, otherwise it will clump up and you will not get the full benefit. It’s a very soothing bath I think, and leaves skin very soft and moisturized. Also I’m sure people with sensitive/dry skin already know this, but for people like me who didn’t, try to avoid all of the perfumed bubble bath products. I’ve had to completely change so many everyday things we used to use, like for instance, I now make my own laundry detergent just to avoid irritating my son’s skin.

I originally bought this for when my eczema (that is usually managed without regular soaks), needed a little extra help. It was soothing and nice, but I never used it on a regular basis. Sometime later, I had an allergic reaction to prescription medication. Hives broke out all over my body, starting at my joints (elbows, knees, hips, wrist, and hands) and over the course of several days they hives migrated to my face, up my arms, my thighs, shoulders, back, neck, and so on. Since I still had some of these packets left, I tried it out. I soaked for 20 minutes in the coolest water I found comfortable (hot water will make hives worse, but I don’t want to feel chilly, either). Make sure to mix the powder in well as it has a tendency to clump and settle at the bottle of the tub. I instantly felt less itchy after one use. The next night (since by then there were hives on my shoulders), I didn’t add the entire packet to the bath, but reserved some to make a paste that I could spread on my shoulders and neck since I couldn’t submerge them in the tub. If the paste got too dry, I would dip my shoulders into the bath water to re-moisten it. That worked like a dream and those hives were nearly gone the next morning. I honestly think the Aveeno did more for my hives than the prescription steroids the ER gave me and the Benedryl did. I love that it is 100% colloidal oatmeal, no fillers or artificial ingredients. The pre-measured packets are easy to open with dry hands and convenient for travel, I just add a couple to my toiletry bag “just in case” my eczema might flare up. I will never go without this treatment again!
