I discovered Arcona by accident when I bought a voucher on Gilt City for a facial at their studio. The facial ended up just being OK but they gave me a travel kit of the Basic Five for my oily/combination, acne-prone skin. I’m east Asian so I am fair with olive undertones…and I’ve fallen in love with their line
I’ve tried everything and I truly believe that it’s the right combination of products that can make a difference. Consumers pick and chose which products to use without really knowing which complement eachother and which counteract eachother. So this kit takes the guesswork out of all that. It is effective for my skin which is oily/combination but also dehydrated (surface dryness in certain areas but oily underneath). I also breakout at the drop of a hat — when the weather changes suddenly, if I work out and don’t wash my face afterwards, and especially the week before my period.
I like the Raspberry bar because it cleans my face without stripping it. I usually use a makeup wipe, then lather up with the soap in my hands and massage it over my face. I also use Clarisonic at night. Smells nice.
I use the AM Acne Lotion every morning. It layers fine under my sunblock and makeup primer.
At night, I alternate between the AM Acne Lotion and The Solution. I also just added the Vitamin A Complex into my night routine and I can see that it really helps keep my skin clear and looking bright. On mornings after I use the The Solution, I also use the Cranberry Gommage to exfoliate. Lastly, I use The Tabula Rasa as a spot treatment. It all sounds very complicated, but the SA at Arcona wrote it all down for me and her instructions are easy to follow. Nothing has ever made my skin this healthy. I still break out sometimes but this line has changed my life. Especially the hormonal breakouts that come with PMS…those have virtually disappeared. After trying disgusting products my dermatologist prescribed for years, I’m so happy to have found this line. The days of over-drying my skin to keep it clear are over.

It took me a month to use up the five products in this kit. By the end of the month my combination, acne-prone skin appeared luminous. The my cheeks were no longer dry, my t-zone wasn’t oily, and my acne cleared up completely. At first it seemed a little burdensome to use some of the products in the morning and some at night, but I discovered that the products really do seem to work in unison. This brand is only sold at a few locations — I buy it either at beauty.com or iowebshop.com (the online store for the spa, International Orange).

Update to my previous review. My face is a mess! After using this for almost 2 months, I had to stop using the Arcona products as I had underskin bumps all over my face, cystic acne on chin and rosacea breakouts on my cheeks! I don’t even have rosacea! Thought this was the end of my search for the best but, alas, the hunt for a HG continues. The only product in this line that does not irritate my skin is the Cranberry Toner. La Mer….here I come.
