I absolutely love Aveda’s Damage Remedy line of hair care products, but, that’s about where my love for this company ends.
1. After 11+ years of loyalty, I no longer get my hair done at their salons, as the quality of service and the professionalism of the stylists themselves have been on a sharp decline. For instance, two different stylists, on separate occasions, burned my scalp and tore out large, noticeable chunks of my hair. This was after I explicitly told them NOT to blow dry my hair (I usually let it air dry), and especially, DO NOT USE A BRUSH ON MY WET HAIR while blow drying it (I use my fingers to gently comb though if I ever use a blow dryer). Needless to say, I haven’t gone back for any salon services since then. I’d rather not have my hair damaged and ripped out, thanks. And I also don’t need to hear about all the drama going on in your life- I just came here to get my hair done, geez!
2. Their rewards program is shady. Make sure to keep track of the points you’ve earned. Mostly they get this part of the experience right, but, if they fail to reward you your points, GOOD LUCK getting them to acknowledge, much less resolve the issue.
3. They employ bait-and-switch tactics to get you to either visit/shop their website or one of their brick-and-mortar stores, and then when you try to use the offer, often times they will not honor the promotion. As with any promotion or coupon, there are qualifying purchases, limitations or other fine print. The problem is that while Aveda’s promotions make reference to the fact that restrictions apply, they do not actually publish these limitations or restrictions anywhere, so they are free to make up the rules as they see fit, when they see fit. Not cool.
4. Their “customer service” is abysmal. You wanna feel like a company absolutely doesn’t give one poop about the customer experience? Well, give their “team” a call- they’re about as apathetic as they come! They are THE definition of apathetic. I never call them anymore when there’s a problem with my order, because I know they’ll just keep sending me around in phone queue loops. I imagine they spend this time laughing amongst themselves about what a stooge I am for staying on the phone believing anyone cares enough to help. You’ll spend a lot of time pleading your case only to realize it falls on deaf ears. Their phone “support” offers little more than wasted time and a ton of frustration. Concerns rarely, if ever, get resolved.
I used to be a big Aveda fan- using only their cosmetics and hair care products, and even believing in their garbage “earth friendly mission”. Boy did they have me fooled! Go ahead: Dig a little deeper into their operations. Check out their supply chain. They don’t actually do anything to help the planet or people. If anything, they use poor people in third-world countries as slave labor. They are just clever at marketing, touting themselves as “conscientious” when they are not.
Because of this, and because their level of care for their customers has been painfully, obviously trending downward, I have stopped using their products except for a couple of the Damage Remedy treatments. Regretfully, try as I might, I just haven’t been able to find any other hair care products, expensive or cheap, that come even close to giving me the same results.
When I do though (I continue to search), I will be running away from this awful company as fast as possible and never looking back!!!

Bought 2 tubes already, and use it for a 9 months period, it makes my hair super smooth after shower, I love the smell and the detangling effect! Haven’t seen much repair though, and can’t really use it on dry hair, better on wet hair. I’m gonna repruchase another tube! I would say a tube lasts 6 month!

Much prefer the Redken blowout lotion. Comparatively, my long hair was frizzier and less smooth/soft using the Aveda. Not a big fan of the herbal scent, either. It didn’t leave my hair feeling/looking greasy, but it also didn’t really seem to add any smoothing, shine, or other benefits. Also it’s double the cost of the Redken, which I think works better and is lighter in texture.

I personally already use shampoo and conditioner in the shower. After the shower I apply this onto damp hair and blow dry. I naturally have very dry hair but I’m not sure if this product rly makes any significant difference to my current hair care routine. It feels just an extra step that I could do without. Before I head out I also apply a hair oil.
I do find this product great, it definitely smoothes my ends and helps protect it from heat. I also love that it is non greasy. but the other products I’m using also do the same. I may repurchase it in future if I find that I rly do need it as another extra step.

I use leave-in conditioner solely because I am super-lazy about my hair, but I also want it to look nice. Enter Damage Remedy — this product saves me time in the shower AND keeps my super-short hair looking and feeling great. It’s just so easy to slap it into wet hair and then blow-dry. It smells really nice too, herbal but not in a hippie way. I was using a cheaper Garnier leave-in before I started going to an Aveda salon, but the Garnier product was discontinued so I got this at my stylist’s rec. I love it, and with my super-short hair I only go through about a tube per year using a little dollop 3 times per week. The squeezy-tube packaging makes it easy to decant into a smaller container for travel too. Definite repurchase!

I use this leave-in conditioner only on days when I’m flat ironing my hair. As a heat treatment protector, this is fantastic. My hair feels noticeably thicker and the Aveda hair repair works really well with my flat iron (when I leave this in and don’t flat iron my hair, it’s too heavy for my asian hair). It comes out in a thin cream from a squeeze bottle that gives you lots of control, you don’t need very much (just a small dime sized amount), and I feel really safe blow drying/straightening my hair without damage. On days when I’m not using my hair straightener and I don’t use this, my hair feels thinner and lighter, that’s how I know the treatment is working.

This works for me. I have very fine hair that tangles at the ends after shower/shampoo/conditioner. I use this before combing out my wet hair so as not to cause damage trying to get through the tangles. It is pricey, but you only need a little bit to get the job done, so a tube lasts a long time.

Personally, I love this product. I bleached my hair about 1.5 years ago and it did sustain quite a lot of breakage/damage. My hair dresser recommended this and I was hesitant at first because of the high price tag, ($38 i think?) but after about a month of using this my hair had improved noticeably. I had dark brown hair and i’ve now been a level 10 for about a year now, and am constantly getting compliments at the salon about how healthy my hair looks and feels. I have to give the credit to this as it’s the only thing new I have added into my hair care routine. i use this every time i wash my hair and it has lasted quite a while. I will absolutely be re purchasing. Definitely worth the money if you have damaged color treated hair!!!

This didn’t work for me. I didn’t see any improvement or impact to my hair after using the product for over 6 months.
My colorist suggested this and the Damage Remedy Treatment, but neither did anything for me.
It advertises that it is “Powered by 97% naturally derived* ingredients, the leave-in treatment delivers 6 remedies in 1 step—smooth it on to instantly repair, strengthen, protect, detangle, soften and boost shine.” I didn’t notice any of these benefits. It definitely didn’t detangle, soften or increase shine – I had to use additional products because this didn’t work. As a positive, at least it didn’t make my hair greasy or stringy.
My hair – fine, but I have a ton of hair. Long, wavy, and can be frizzy. It’s a dark blonde that’s been lifted up to a very pale blonde, so it’s dry and damaged and tangles easily. Additionally, the water in LA is not the best (even with a filter), which exacerbate dryness.
A mix of olaplex, protein treatments, Redken All Soft, and 12 Benefits leave-in treatment have worked better for me.

I LOVE! this product! Listen, I have fine fragile hair. I bleach my hair every 2 months. I color it every week (since I maintain an unnatural color). I blowdry it every night. And this is the only product that has my hairdresser tell me my hair is so healthy every dang time I walk in the door.
I use it daily post-shower, applying a large peas worth through my short pixie hair. It lasts me around 6 months if I’m careful about it, which is good enough for me. Its got a great size, at 3.4 OZ it’s small enough to carry on planes so I don’t need a travel size.
My only real complaint? The price! But it’s worth it, because I haven’t found anything like it.
