I have a very difficult to match medium brown to deep skin tone (depending on the shade chart used) with yellow and olive undertones. For reference, my closest shade match off the shelf Px foundation is Antelope.
My Px Custom Blend (CB) powder could have been great, IF the MUA had prepared the mix correctly. Before Px left the stores, I got this powder along with a CB foundation. The foundation seemed okay, but the powder had a GREY cast! No amount of buffing or light-handed use could make it look good on my skin. The original MUA at Bloomies should have simply told me they did not have the correct raw materials to prepare the best matches of foundation and powder for me, but instead, he happily prepared them without concern. He did, however, provide me with the foundation shade recipe. I found out later that both custom blends were products gone wrong.
How did I find out the shades were wrong for sure? I went back after I ran out of the foundation and the original MUA was no longer there. A different MUA prepared a new CB foundation and what she made was a perfect match. It looked like my skin but better. She told me the old foundation recipe I brought with me was totally wrong. I had also brought with me the old powder and explained the grey problem: she said it, too, was way off and explained why. She ended up selling me Flawless Skin Powder Level 4, which seemed too light, but worked well over the new CB foundation and it was cheaper than the CB powder.
Should I conclude that the original MUA was terrible at his job, or that he just wanted his commission? The problem was that the new MUA did not give me the new CB foundation recipe, so I cannot reorder. I tried to get the foundation recipe from Bloomies right after the Px counter closed, but they said they did not save the files. I was so upset! I do not trust the Px online site to make a good color match – photo, or no photo, so will not be reordering either product. Disappointed, as I sent them many CB customers with skin tones ranging from the fairest to the deepest. Px has zero customer loyalty…

Love the custom blend powder. I usually only purchase the foundation, but this time I splurged and got the CB concealer, foundation and powder. The product is expensive, but the container is huge and you do get quite a bit for your money. The color matching is amazing and the difference with ALL three customer blend products makes me not so great skin look passable. What type of foundation/powder are PX fans going to use when PX goes away? I am buying up everthing I can – My foundation is all ready sold out ever place I have tried.

Hi,
I got the Px custom blend foundation a few years back. I liked it but ended up buying a different one later on. However, I just went back to get some loose powder custom blended. The SA Reenie was fabulous and such a nice person to talk to. She made it just right. I couldn’t be happier.
Price: (w/ tax) $47
Product: LOTS of product in a sifter container, SA said it would last me AT LEAST a year
So far so good. I’ll update later if anything goes astray! Worth every penny.

All I asked for was a powder that wasn’t darker than my crazy-pale skin (yes, I’m too pale for translucent powder, it looks all yellow on me); I got that, plus the best oil-control I’ve ever found in a powder and … it reduced my acne(!). It’s not that I switched makeup–I’d been wearing no makeup at all for years, and this powder actually made my face *clearer* than wearing nothing. I’ve actually had to switch soaps because my face is so much less oily! This effect has lasted for two months & I can’t recommend them enough.
I’m not claiming it’s a cure, mind you, but it actually helps. My mixer-person used 1 thing of oil control plus the powder and the colors. I wear this with a moisturizing (not oil-control) concealer from them.

After getting Cusom Blend foundation and concealer I figured I might as well get the powder too. What a difference getting a powder that is an exact match to your skin tone! It looks amazing over the foundation or on its own, just melts and blends right into my skin. I prefer this formulation to the Px All Skins Loose Powder and you get a huge amount of powder, plus a travel size and when I bought it I also got a bonus of a pressed powder. Normally they charge $20 for that. I like that you can select what you want added. I had some moisture and oil control added to mine. Will definitely repurchase when I run out of this one – which will be a long long time from now.

I did not get this done when I purchased the CB foundation. I returned to have the CB concealer the SA talked me into the powder. To watch the process is the interesting part, she started with Level 2 powder, some yellow, some green, some tan, some candlelight, then 2 tubes of moisturizing powder. She blended all those addition colors first, with the main color set aside. It has the color of greyish dust, ( Olivia, if you are reading this, you are so right); then everything was blended. There is a lot, I mean a lot of powder, for extra $20 I had the compact pressed. I love the package (loose), just tap some powder on the cap, pick it up with the puff. its all controllable. I will skip having the compact done if returned. The texture of the powder is also amazing, moisturizing, for experiment, I piled it on, no chalkiness, just disappeared into the skin and sets the foundation.
Well worth it.

Just got this with my custom blend foundation and so far i love it! I have had such a hard search in finding a powder that was right for me – and this is it! I’m AA, NW43 in MAC, B/R in Px -base level 6.

I purchased the custom blend loose powder with the custom blend foundation. I love it! The SA was wonderful & she definitely knew what she was doing. She added the necessary pigment to cover my redness and she also added moisturizer to the loose powder, which I didn’t know could be done. I am super dry and it makes a huge difference. I don’t know if it’s the powder or the foundation or the combination, but this has absolutely changed the way I look with makeup. I never realized how great my skin could look… soft, smooth, poreless. My skin not only looks soft, but it feels soft as well. I’ll easily repurchase the loose powder and the foundation when I’m out, which won’t be soon. I received a huge bottle of foundation and a small bottle to carry with me. The loose powder came in a huge jar (much larger than the standard retail loose powder) with a very nice, plush puff and I was given a small jar of loose powder with a smaller, plush puff to carry with me, as well as, a pressed compact with a nice powder puff as well. The $$ doesn’t even matter. The results are so well worth it. I have never gotten this kind of results with any other makeup I have previously used; and over the years, I have tried most of the H/E brands out there.

I got the custom blend loose powder after loving every single product I have tried from prescriptives.
I went to a U blend event at holt renfrew for this. It was $70 but includes the pressed powder compact for free as well. I think its dumb that normally, the pressed powder is an additional $20 because they dont give you MORE powder…they just take half of the loose powder and press it. So really, you are paying $20 just for the compact and the pressing.
The powder itself is really good quality but I am not sure how important is color matching for loose powder as I normally use transparent ones from Clarins and don’t really notice a difference in terms of how it looks on my face or its coverage. I dont like the packaging because its hard to get the powder out and its SO big even though the powder fills less than half of the container…that might be because i had the pressed powder done. They also gave me a small travel size container but didnt help me fill it…so its just sitting on my bathroom counter. I think they should at least put some in for you.
I think my formula includes 2 candlelight and 1 oil control. You can definately notice the shimmer in the candle light but the oil control doesnt really work for me as I dont notice a difference between using this and the clarins. I feel neutral about the candle light.
I think when I am done with this, i might repurchase…or i’ll just go back to Clarin’s depending on if I want a colored one or opt for a transparent one.
update: ive been using this for about 6 months now and i like it more and more. i now like this type of packaging way better than clarins…also, i now think it DOES make a difference and will repurchase when i am done. love it!

I’ve been a MAC’s Studio Fix fan for years but decided that I was tired of looking greasy by noon and the color oxidizing along with it.
I must say I am impressed with the custom blend loose powder. Although it seems pricey initially, it makes good financial sense because I would re-purchase the Studio Fix at $24 a pop every 2 months…and this should last at least 9 months for only $45.
It feels very light and the color is perfect. This was worth every penny!
EDIT 9/14: I ended up taking this back. The color did not match at all in natural light. I think you have to find the right MA to do your custom blend that knows enough to stray away from the formula when needed to customize what works best for your complexion.
