Beautiful color, highly pimented. Would buy again. Recommend.

A nicely pigmented matte black. I do not do smokey eye looks where I use black as a base, so I cannot vouch for the effectiveness of this product for that. What I do use it for is to set my liquid eyeliner. Deepens and mattifies the black, while helping set it. You could also just wet an eyeliner brush and use this straight up as a powder/cake eyeliner. Would repurchase.

Ebony is a true black eyeshadow that applies so smooth and beautifully. I love to use this over my eyeliner and close to my lash line. It makes creating the perfect smokey eye soooo easy! I use the mac 217 brush for the best results. It is the best when I want my eye really dark on the lower part of my upper lid. I have even created a dark smokey eye without using any other color but this. (other than my hightlight color). Applies very intense and can be faded out if you want. This ranks right up there with mac’s carbon! I use both for different purposes and don’t think I could live without either one now!

This stuff doesn’t get enough love, it is fantastic. Beautiful true black, not grey, but black. Matte, but has some depth. Versatile, you can use in the creation of a smokey eye in just the crease or as a wash on the entire lid or you can use it as a liner, wet or dry. I love using a black pencil or gel liner and then going over it with this. Stays put, doesn’t fade with a primer (I personally use UDPP). I paid $18 for it a few years ago, but I’m sure you can find it for cheaper. Will last me forever (has lasted me forever), but would buy again. Check it out, Stila does make some great eyes shadows.

i was looking for a true BLACK eyeshadow, here it is!! I love it!!
i apply kitten first, then a darker color, then Ebony at last close to my eyeliner… works great!!
Stila’s eye shadow is the best!!

Super pigmented very black matte shadow. Love that this doesn’t look grey but a true black that works great as a liner, setting liner, or for darkening creases. Great MAC Carbon alternative. Beautycrunch.com had this for $5. Retail price is still worth it if you will use it.

This pains me a little to say, but it’s true: Sometimes Stila’s eyeshadows are even better than MAC’s!
I typically line only my upper lids with MAC’s blacktrack Fluidline, using a small angle brush to line right along the lashline. Then I go over the liner with a matte black shadow to set the liner and even out any “skips.”
I’d been using MAC’s Carbon eyeshadow quite happily for a long time, but then I noticed that, especially in warm weather, I was getting black smudges under my eyes after a few hours.
After a series of “tests,” which are too dull and too convoluted to describe here, I determined that Carbon was the culprit.
After reading the reviews here, many of which cited Ebony’s superior staying power, I decided to try it. <,br>
Ebony *is* quite a bit more expensive than a MAC shadow (they’re $ 18.00 and $14.50, respectively), but when I wore Ebony for the first time yesterday, NO BLACK SMUDGES! And Ebony has all of the other qualities for which I was looking: absolutely matte finish, no chalkiness, and good pigmentation. Ebony does everything I want it to do, but without smudging.
I was delighted. If this continues to be the case, Ebony will have kicked Carbon to the curb, and become my staple matte black shadow.

A must-have matte, black shadow. It works great for smokey eyes, but I absolutely love it as a liner. It’s very pigmented and it outlasts my eyeliners!

Ebony is proof that not all eyeshadows are created equal. Normally you would think that a black matte eyeshadow would be pretty run of the mill, but Stila make even basic black special.
It’s incredibly well pigmented, so even used dry you get rich deep colour, but a softer effect which is perfect for a smoky eye. Used wet it outdoes most liquid liners (and is much easier to apply).
Today I’ve teamed it with Chinois and Diamond Lil.

A very basic matte black that should be in every beauty arsenal. The texture is divine, and with a little primer, the color payoff is extremely rich. Pairs nicely with NARS black based Night series eye shadows.
