I been struggling with very severe acne since my teen years and also as an adult (Im 28). I have been using this product for almost a year already and I have no acne what so ever. Its an extremely good product, which I never thought that a great product could be from Walgreens. I tried Proactiv and this product works better than Proactiv.

The only thing that really keeps my skin clear and calm. Used to use Proactiv but it’s too expensive and I disliked the shipping system. This is readily available, very affordable and works really well. Huge fan!

I am 31, I have always used the Proactiv renewing cleanser (step 1) for super clear skin. I ran out and went to the mall, they were out..only had Proactiv Plus. .my face has never looked so horrible, 20 or more different kinds of zits, blackheads, white heads, pimples, and cysts. So I reordered my regular proactiv..takes 3 weeks to ship…can’t wait that long. It’s hard to even leave the house when your face hurts and is full of bright red bumps even makeup doesn’t help the appearance. So I went to Wallgreens and seen the acne system and overnight the redness and acne went down. Day two was even better and I felt so relieved. No more pain and the redness almost gone. Day three is even better than day two with no new acne and the old stuff is almost all the way gone maybe 2 or 3 on my face. Now I wish I wouldn’t have spent so much money on Proactiv… I got the system for 10 dollars! On sale…. I buy proactive for 35 dollars a bottle. .. definitely switching. It looks the same, smells the same, and has the same texture.

Hands down the best acne product I have EVER tried. 9 months ago I had acne so severe that I couldn’t even rest my cheek on a pillow without being in pain, not only is my acne gone (aside from a whitehead or two around my period) but my scarring has faded away and most days I do not wear makeup! I will use this product forever.

I LOVE this product!! It works exactly like Proactive does on my skin only it’s 1/3 the price!! This kept me acne free for years. I have not been able to find it recently. I went to 3 different Walgreens and even checked online. I really hope it has not been discontinued 🙁

I just bought two boxes of this after I saw it at Walgreens. It was by one get one 50% off so I thought okay I’ll try it. It was way too harsh on my skin. And its day 2 and my skin looks so much worse and it itches!!! Before I had one or two pimples. Now I have like 7. I don’t know. Maybe the formula is different. I’m going back to cetaphil in the am and panoxyl in the pm. What a bummer! 🙁
*UPDATE: I was able to return the Walgreens Kit and I ended up purchasing the Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions Kit. It comes with a cleasner, lotion, and spot treatment. So far, it is really calming down the irritation I experienced from the Walgreens kit. My skin is clearing up and it is much more gentle on my skin. I encourage you all to try this one. It has all natural ingredients with Salicylic Acid. Much better!!!

Skin Essentials 3 Step Acne System was gentle on my skin and was effective in clearing my most bothersome blemishes! My skin had drastically improved in a couple weeks and it’s only 12 dollars! It’s cheap and the results are comparable for Proactive.

This review is based on my initial impression of this product as its only been a week and I will update again in a few weeks. So far I am impressed. This is walgreens proactive dupe for half the cost. I never used proactive regularly but I have dabbled with it and I would say this is a good cost effective alternative. I am mostly using the system at night but I use the treatment as needed in the a.m. I love that this has no fragrance and has simple, quality ingrediants. In the past i haven’t had a lot of luck with bp but this really seems to be healing/drying my blemishes and preventing new breakous, without irritation. I find it odd that step 3 the treatment is referred to as a cream. By no means is it a cream. I think it is supposed to be a gel but mine is veryyy liquidy. Not sure if I love this but as long as it does its job. However, I am probably going to have to start using an additional moisturizer. Wish one was included. Although I don’t typically use this under makeup the treatment is clear and nonsticky and quite mattifying (maybe drying for some). Hope I continue to see more improvement as i still have some very stubborn pimples.

I love this stuff. I’ve bought it three times now. I’m an adult with hormonal-based acne around my chin and mouth. I was on prescription treatments for a long time, and while they helped, I was still getting the occasional-to-frequent zits. Since I started using this, they’ve gone way down- I think I’ve had two in six months. In addition, the scarring has lessened a lot, and I think it’s partially due to the toner with glycolic acid. I use the toner twice a day, and the face wash once a day. I only use the BP cream when I need it.
Two problems: I have really sensitive skin, and the bp treatment leaves my skin red and kind of rashy. If I put it on upcoming zits, I’m fine. If I put it anywhere else, I’m red there the next day. I know this seems like a big deal, but honestly, I’ve tried everything else and this for me is a completely tolerable problem.
In addition, the packaging isn’t great. But the entire thing is only $13, so I guess you get what you pay for with regards to the casing.

2012 update: Yay! I tested it again and am happy to report it’s still great!!!! It’s now called “3 Step Acne System” and now also comes w/ a 6% sulfur mask. All good! Thank you Walgreens! 11/2/11 update: Looks like Walmart has started selling something like this again. Don’t know if it’s made by the same co. and haven’t tested it yet. UPDATE: Oh, no! They don’t sell this anymore!! I am begging Walgreens to sell again. It’s better than anything else!!! They only have the “Severe” version, which is too strong!!!!
This is one of the most effective yet non-irritating acne treatments I have ever used. I am now on my second purchase of this. I always thought that the greater the % of BP, the better. How can less be better? I was wrong. This is a 3 piece system that sells for only about $13 at Walgreens. It is all unscented, which I love because I have sensitive skin and I find most fragances on my face to be annoying. There is a 2.5% BP, 4oz squeeze bottle of scrub cleanser that is mild and effective. The only reason I usually use Basis sensitive skin bar soap more often than this cleanser is that I like smooth bar soaps better than liquid scrub cleansers as I frequently use a bufpuf, and I feel I’m getting plenty of BP with the Skin Repair cream that is step 3 of this system. When I do use the Cleanser I have good results, however. The Toner (4 oz squeeze bottle), step 2, is alcohol free and contains glycolic acid and good stuff like aloe, sodium pca, panthenol, and allantoin, which my skin finds soothing. You can use it after washing or skip the toner and go straight to the Skin Repair Cream, step 3. You can also use the toner anytime during the day to remove oil, dead skin, dirt, etc. Step 3 is the Skin Repair Cream, which is 2.5% BP in a GEL base (2 oz squeeze bottle) that I find non-drying, mildly moisturizing, and competely non-irritating. The Cream is GREAT. Some gel bases sting me. This doesn’t, and it contains soothing ingredients like dimethicone, panthenol and allantoin. It contains no alcohol (it contains cetearyl alcohol which is not the drying kind, it is more of a moisturizer). Let the Cream dry, then apply sunscreen and/or moisturizer. Each component of the system works better than much more expensive products and does not irritate my sensitive yet oily /dry skin. I find it reduces redness, inflammation and breakouts VERY well. Definitely a re-buy for a 3rd time. Hope they don’t discontinue!
