   This has been my go-to sunblock for years now. I’m allergic to chemical sunscreen so I have to use mechanical (zinc based) sun protection otherwise my face will puff up like a blowfish. I put this on my face, neck, and ears every day and wait several minutes for it to absorb into my skin and then apply my makeup over it. I actually think it creates a nice base for applying makeup onto even though I know most people would disagree but it’s just something I’ve found that works for me. I do have to set my makeup with a loose or pressed powder to take the shine away that the suncreen creates but most women set their makeup with powder anyway. Honestly, if you’re not putting on sunblock before you apply makeup then you’re not doing yourself any favors unless you’re apparently never leaving your house and stepping into the light of day. I hope CVS never stops making this suncreen!

   I have been using this product for 2 or 3 years now. I’ve tried other sun products for the face, and they caused irritation or a burning sensation, so I decided to try zinc oxide-based products. Though the label says it “goes on clear”, it actually leaves a white film at first, so you need to give it a minute or so to sink it. There is very little scent, and it doesn’t cause breakouts. The product has pretty good staying power, though if you are sweating or swimming a lot, I would recommend re-applying it, since no sunblock is completely waterproof.

   This sunscreen contains both physical and chemical active ingredients. When I purchased this I neglected to do my research on it first. Thinking zinc oxide on the label makes this a safe blocker was enough, I should of known the lack of details this product had would cause more problems than good. I have the jar container and while it says greaseless it certainly is not. I mainly got this for my face since the product labels for face, nose and ears. I only used this for a maximum of 4 days till I had to stop and research the inactive ingredients. I started getting red on my cheeks and was unsure why every time I removed this at the end of the day. At first I thought it was my tiny red veins, but they are always visible veins not a big red patch on my cheeks. I had to ask my husband to give my skin a look. He said I had tons of tiny bumps on the red areas! After the redness cleared, the bumps looked like milia 🙁 A day later my cheeks sprouted out red acne bumps. The culprit is this contains sodium chloride which I read is a highly comedogenic ingredient! I did not know about this at all and checked all my face products and none had this ingredient. I also wasn’t using anything new or different when I put this on. It has no fragrance that I can tell. It rubs in clear, but makes the skin look greasy throughout the day, with or without makeup on top. This is going in the trash. I’ve learned my lesson on products without non-comedogenic warning. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.

   ***ADDED: I just checked some of my concealers and a few have sodium chloride, and none have caused me such a break out. The only other guess I can make is my sensitive skin (currently dry skin) is not too fond of the zinc oxide. This is my first time using ss with zinc oxide, I normally use some with low titanium dioxide. Just beware when using this on the face. When I wore it my skin felt incredibly itchy and uncomfortable, hence the redness I got. I had high hopes for this ss mostly because of the rating/reviews it received.***

   I didn’t like this at first, but decided it was affordable enough. I’ve had this habit of slathering on Neutrogena’s Sheer Touch sunscreen for some time, and forget that zinc oxide sunscreen is a different animal altogether. I should had learned from using M.A.C.’s prep+prime w/zinc oxide that alittle is all it takes. Boy, I love the prep+prime, but this review isn’t for that, so I digress.

   With the right amount of product this is great in terms of protection. I’ve been outside for 4-6 hours with this sunscreen and didn’t burn. The downside to using this? No matter how often I rubbed, I still experienced white creases inside the elbows and behind my knees, but that’s okay for my daily walks and trips to the waterparks. I gave this a 4, because this wouldn’t be a sunscreen to wear to a nice function ( outdoor wedding, concert & etc.. ), you’ll have a white-ish cast that shows. Pretty much a sports type sunscreen.

   I love this sunblock! I can wear this product in the pool or the ocean or while working out (and sweating) outside and not get the slightest bit burned or tanned! As a fairly pale person with a terrible fear of skin cancer/wrinkles, I use sunblock whenever I go outside, and this is my favorite. In addition to it’s effectiveness, it’s also much cheaper than a lot of other brands. Even though on the bottle it says “For face, nose, and ears”, I use it all over my body because it’s so affordable. I especially love when it goes on sale and I can stock up on multiple bottles at a time.

   I have only had this for about a week, but it seems to be working fine. This does leave an little bit of shine, as opposed to Neutrogena’s sheer touch which leaves hardly any. However, this one contains a physical sunblock (zinc oxide) and sheer touch doesn’t. According to EWG, this sunscreen shades one from both uva and uvb rays far better than Neutrogena, so I figured I’d give it a chance. Will update a few weeks later.

   I’m repeating my review for Solar Sense SPF 45 because the CVS Zinc Oxide SPF 45 seems to be more or less identical to me (or at least my reaction to it is identical): I’m surprised how much I like this product. I was a bit skeptical, as I am obsessive about preventing or at least minimizing sun damage and am also fussy about how something feels on my sensitive skin. Although this is a face sunscreen, I used it on my body (I generally only use Mexoryl sunscreens on my face). It’s extremely thick so it can be difficult to spread, but it dries completely and clear (except maybe in the creases of my elbows), so it’s fairly comfortable once it’s on, other than being a little heavy/greasy. I like that it’s zinc-based and therefore a broad-spectrum physical blocker; I feel like I’m really protected with this stuff, though that may be just a function of the super-thick formula. I don’t notice any white residue except for after climbing out of the pool, but at that point I’m generally on my way to a shower anyway (and a reapplication of sunscreen!). After using it several times (and in comparison with other sunscreens), I’ve also noticed that it feels quite waterproof; after applying it, it’s really hard to wash off my hands (even with soap), which suggests to me that it might provide particularly good protection for spending time in the water (though I’d still reapply afterwards). Bottom line: Super-heavy but also seems to be super-protective.

   This is a good everyday ss. It is not that high ppd for some of you that like a high ppd ss. But it does the job if you are just going to be indoors or just run some errands, etc. It is a little tough to spread but not impossible. It does not leave a greasy feeling or white cast which I love. It is stable with no oxy or avobenzone. Non-irritating..for me at least. I haven’t broken out with this and its gentle enough on my sensitive skin ever since I started using Tazorac. The only cons are the fact that its not as spreadable as most h/e ss and it comes in a jar which I do not like because I hate dipping fingers. But for a couple more bucks you can get the same in a tube form. I was in a pinch so I had to opt for the jar. I will repurchase this again.
