I’m not a big fan of powders because I find they take all the life away from skin. I don’t like the dull, dried out look. However, I have oily skin and would sometimes like to set my foundation.
This is the only powder I have tried that makes skin look smooth and pretty, not sapped of all vitality. It’s more of a velvet texture, not a matte texture. The La Mer powder comes close, but this is better.
It looks like it has shimmer in the pan, but when you apply it you do not see it at all – and believe me I hate shimmer.
The only reason this is not a perfect powder is that it only “sets” foundation for a couple of hours, then it looks oily again as if you never put it on. So I’m not sure it’s worth the price because it only looks good on me for a little while. For that reason, I usually skip the powder step, so this jar will last me forever!

I have the UV Face Powder in Light Beige and it’s a lovely loose powder for everyday use. It has a slight pinkish tone and sheen, but has no discernible glitter or shimmer in it. The powder is really finely milled and feels very soft. Applies invisibly on the skin and looks very natural. The powder puff enclosed is also really large and super soft. One tub can last more than 2 years of daily use.

I purchased the Koh Gen Do lighting powder because I was looking for a face powder that would give me an overall luminous glow. The loose powder comes in a large tub with a screw off top. Inside is a powderpuff and under it is the plastic dispenser where the powder comes out. First let me talk about the packaging. The powder is very hard to dispense without getting it everywhere. I suppose you are supposed to tap the side to release some product but it ends up getting all over me or my counter which is a waste of product in my opinion. Secondly, the product itself is decent. The powder is very fine which I love and is very blendable. I use the Sephora stippling brush #44 to apply it. However, the glitter in the powder is quite course or chunky and does not really give me that natural glow I was looking for. The glitter is as thick as it is in the NARS “Hungry Heart” duo (which is quite chunky if you haven’t ever seen/used it). I think that the powder would be X10 better if the product contained shimmer rather than glitter. Though I still use it from time to time I don’t think I’d repurchase it.

This review is for the Natural Lighting Powder. LOVE this powder! It’s a very very finely milled powder that’s a pale shade of beige but will not change the color of the foundation. It finishes off the Moisture Foundation to the point where it looks airbrushed. It does have an extremely slight shimmer, I don’t even want to call it shimmer because it’s so slight- you do NOT see it when it’s on unless you’re looking in a 10X mirror outside, and even then it’s so subtle, but it makes the skin look flawless. I love this line and wish I would have found it years ago!

Simply one of the best. I chronically experiment with loose powders and have a small army at home. Koh Gen Do Maifanshi loose powder is in my top 5: satin-matte finish with no shimmer/glitter (at least for the translucent and uv powders; the snowy pink and natural lighting powders have some), great setting/lasting power, silky luxe feel. I have dryish skin and KGD works like a dream for me. Invisible, but in the best way. In the normal canister, you don’t get a huge amount of powder (12g; for reference, la mer has 25, Chanel has 30, cinema secrets has a massive 56!) but the finish is so flawless/noncakey that I actually prefer it to Chanel, LM, Cinema Secrets, guerlain, lunasol, Shu, and (gasp) Shiseido. It’s one of those products that ruined me for lesser quality items (which isn’t a comment on price point; see Southern Magnolia
minerals HD illuminating powder for another powder I really like at a much cheaper price.) Plus, it comes with a super plush puff that holds up well to washing.

I love, love, love this powder! I’m currently using Nars loose powder, which I thought was good, but this is better. It’s ridiculously expensive, but powder always lasts a long time and I think this is worth it.
I’m using the sample that comes in the sample kit from their website. It’s a pure white powder and it’s the softest face powder I’ve seen. There’s no pigment in it, so it just disappears into your skin. It does not look white on the skin. Since my skin is dry, I love that it doesn’t leave me looking dry like most powders, and there’s no sheen whatsoever either. It just looks like skin. I’ve had no signs of breaking out from it at all.
It came with a nice powder puff, and I also use a small brush to get into small areas around my nose, etc. Usually I just powder my T-zone, but even if I use this on my cheeks I don’t look dry. This is very good stuff.

Wow I have never been totally wow-ed by a powder the way I am by this one (it’s in a black-lidded package now, not the one pictured). First, for $13CAD at Walmart you get a huge container of this stuff. It mattifies the face without looking cakey or dry at all but not too ‘satin’ and there’s no shimmer. It gives my face this blurred, poreless, airbrushed look without adding extra coverage or changing the colour of my foundation. I put it on and immediately thought “yes this is how I want my face to look every single day of my life”.

At first I purchased the Laura Mercier translucent powder. It was my HG but after a while it seemed too expensive to keep repurchasing. So instead I tried this powder which is my mothers HG and has been as long as she can remember; and she recommended to me. I purchased one and thought it was just about the same as Laura Mercier. Although it’s not as finely milled or white as Laura Mercier., it worked nearly the same.This powder is great for keeping my oil at bay for a good 5 hours until I need to blog again, (just for comparison purposes the same thing happened with Laura Mercier powder) it doesn’t break me out and keeps my concealer set for the whole day. I recommend this to everyone. Even if you have dry skin; it’s still great to set foundation of concealer.

This setting powder is amazing if you have dry, flaky skin like I do. It makes my skin look so smooth and blurry, still leaves a bit of a glow but takes down shine, and doesn’t leave my skin looking like a parched prune at the end of the day like so many other powders do.
I normally go for high end powders, and have tried a bunch – this is better than all of them.

Does everything a powder should do. Sets makeup, absorbs oil, blends well, gives your skin that matte, “finished” look, keeps shine at bay. Even helps to conceal zits if applies with the fingertip (overtop a concealer). Unscented and non-irritating. Doesn’t dry me out. Dirt cheap for the HUGEST JAR of powder EVER. No annoying chunky glitter or shimmers.
Marcelle is cruelty-free, and originates from my home country of Canada. 🙂
No complaints, and no reason to stray from this powder. I’ve recommended and would repurchase.

My sister-in-law is a cosmetician and she suggestion to purchase a loose powder instead of a setting spray. She suggestion this product – Marcelle Face Powder Translucent Medium. She has had hers for about year.
It’s very affordable $15 CAD for 2.4oz/70g. It’s 100% hypoallergenic. “This ultra-light weight loose powder evens skin tone and allows make-up to last longer. Its mattifying formula absorbs excess sebum and leaves skin looking natural.”
I use it with a powder brush. First I make sure the lid is on tight, turn it upside down and back upright. With the holes on the top layer it gives just enough loose powder to use and minimizes waste. Light dabs on main areas and circle motion.
So far, I have used it 3 times and I haven’t had to use dotting paper for oil or sweat. It also sets my makeup well all day long. I’m very happy with this product and price is right.

This is a great product
Let me start out by saying that this is the first time I’ve used loose powder. I avoided them because I thought they’d be too chalky. I decided to buy this after reading the great reviews on this site. I bought the powder in medium just to be safe since I have pretty dark brown skin that tans easily in summer. I apply it with a quo loose powder puff,dabbing the powder rather than simply smoothing it over. It does not give much coverage but is a great setting powder. I used it after applying a heavy sunscreen just to see if it works and it did!! It mattifies the skin and looks great. I took pictures with flash after applying it liberally and there was absolutely no residue visible the skin looks matte.Its great even for my dark skin and does not look chalky at all .It does not irritate the skin or cause breakouts.
The downside is that if you are looking for coverage this offers very little. It makes the skin completely matte so those looking for a luminous glow may not like it. Your skin will look just as it is but more even and ‘finished’.its a little expensive for drugstore makeup but it offers a lot of product. Very little product falls through the sifter so not much goes to waste.. As with all loose powders it might be cumbersome to carry around. All in all a good product.

Simply EXCEPTIONAL – in its own…quiet way.
Powder is important in my routine – mostly loose powder. I have many of them. While I like to experiment with new exciting things, this powder is always there. I am male but can never go on a trip without my sunscreen, the ELF powder brush, and Marcelle Face Powder. I can live without foundation, blushes, and bronzers, but I simply cannot leave the house with an SPF oily face.
Most powders are either too coarse, too shiny (why do they have to put mica in there?), or so dry that I feel like I’m dragging my sunscreen as I slide the brush around my face. Marcelle is so fine, the brush glides smoothly, and the finish is simply perfect! no need for a setting spray. I’m not sure whether it is the fine talc or the small amount of mineral oil it contains but it is pure genius!
Is the packaging too big? Yes!! There’s 70g or product in there, which makes it cheaper than Ben Nye Luxury Powders by size. You can get it for 10.97 CAD at Walmart. Considering the size it’s as cheap as the NYC Loose Powder. The container might be a bit too bulky for travel but I don’t care. I just put a sticker to block the sifter and toss it in my bag. I don’t even bother to transfer. The two available shades, Translucent and Translucent Medium differ mainly not in darkness but in color. Translucent Medium is simply a bit red, not dark.
Trying to be impartial, I guess its greatest PROS can turn out to be its CONS as well.
– Because it is so sheer, it doesn’t offer any coverage. It will slightly blur imperfections but that’s about it. Which is good because it doesn’t turn my facial hair beige.
– Because it is so creamy, there are other talc / cornstarch / rice powders in the market that control oil slightly better. But for normal to slightly oily, slightly dry skin people this is great.
– Because it is so smooth, I find that blush and bronzer don’t bind on it as well. I’d say it’s more suited as a finishing powder. But I personally prefer a yellow powder for that.
Bottom line: If you need powder to remove shine from sunscreen all over your face and neck this powder is great. If your skin is not too oily it makes a good finishing powder as well. A true beauty bargain, 100% Canadian.:)

This colourless powder comes in a cylindrical shaker (cardboard) , with a powder puff, much like a talc powder. The first ingredient is talc, which doesn’t bother me a bit. Sodium hyaluronic acid powder is the 2nd (or 3rd) ingredient. For the first 2-3 minutes, applied over their moisture fdn. it does seem to appear a bit whitsh, but it soon disappeared and the fdn. is set, looking natural and not a sign of cakiness on my dry skin. Within 2-3 hours, my dry skin, instead of appearing cakey, does look somewhat moist, not in a shimmer way, as this powder has NO shimmer/pearlescent at all.
For normal skin, as the weather is getting warmer, this may result in “mud-slide”.
For the price Cad$75, I returned it, as I often skip powdering on top of fdn. as the skin eventually absorbed the moisture in the fdn. and set it anyway.
