After reading a lot about Tarte LipSurgence products, I decided to try one. I am always looking for a color I can wear daily, especially in the fall/winter, when clothes generally are not as bright. I was pleasantly surprised by this product! First, I love the color…I am NW15-20, and it looks like the perfect daily red/rose on me. When I wear it without a liner, it doesn’t travel into the lines around my lips, which is a definite plus. It is drying…but, on me, less drying than the MAC matte colors. My next step is to try it with a variety of liners. I know a red liner will make it show up more red, but also going to try it with my MAC soar and whirl, and see what interesting looks I can create. It is so easy to carry and use for touch ups that I don’t even need a mirror. They were almost out of it at Ulta…had only one more, so I am assuming it must be fairly popular. I like it so much, I may grab a back up.

The Envy colour looked great online and at Sephora. Sadly, it has coral/orangey undertones that do not compliment my complexion. And I suspect it gets its “matte” effect from an astringent minty additive that you can smell and feel upon application. Not impressed.

Unlike certain others, I actually found this to be moisturizing. Basically, I love the product, but this hue – Envy – is just too warm for my skin tone – it looks orange-ish on me 🙁
Since the packaging made it look cooler, I am disappointed. But, if your skintone is more neutral than mine, this could be a YLBB HG color for you!

People complaining about dryness:
1. Chill.
2. Apply aquaphor/balm of choice after applying lipstain.
Problem solved.
I have super crazy sensitive skin and this doesn’t cause blackheads and bumps around my lips like pretty much every other lipstick, outlasts the Chanel I had been using, and, all light-skinned green-eyed girls should invest in “Moody” and “Lively.” I haven’t found anything more low-maintenance and lasting. I HATE reapplying. With this, I’m good all day.

Okay Tarte. I’ve given you two chances with these matte lip tints and both times, I was left disappointed and frankly, in a considerable amount of discomfort from this product sucking the moisture out of my lips like a dang vacuum.
How can they advertise this as being moisturizing? MAC’s Retro Matte formula isn’t even as damaging and drying as this!
I bought this in the hot pink color a couple years back because I loved the color, and I kept trying over and over to make it work, but every time, I’d be left with cracking, flaking lips (even if they were perfectly moisturized and smooth beforehand). The only saving grace was the unbelievable staying power.
But I still decided to give it another shot this past weekend, thinking that maybe they had reformulated it to be less drying. Well, if they did reformulate it, it only served to turn the staying power to utter rubbish as well. Within two hours, no eating or drinking, this color faded horribly, leaving behind a sad excuse for what it used to be, no noticeable stain, and big scaly flakes on my lips. I thought the color Envy was beautiful – the perfect MLBB for Autumn – and to be sure, it definitely is. But talk about a good plate with nothing on it!
The price is exorbitant considering how grossly misrepresented this product is, and how horribly it performs. The packaging is its only high point, but you could put a wad of dog crap in a Birkin and it’s still dog crap so yeah.
This is going back.

I love this color. The product is easy to apply and remove. My only complaints are the price ($24 at Sephora) and that the inside popped out after I turned the base in the wrong direction. I can still use it, but I have to be careful or the product will fall out. Despite this I’m in love with the color. Another plus is that it has the faint smell and taste of peppermint.

Ugh. I loved the color of this stain, and would buy again if it cost what it should – $3, or whatever Wet n Wild’s lipstick price point is these days, because that’s about the quality we’re talking. It’s terribly drying – fine; lots of stains are. But for this Sahara-level dryness, I expect at least two hours of wear. This color – which is a total MLBB – starts fading within twenty minutes. The packaging is also awful; the cap comes off very easily and the product actually broke while I was applying it in a public bathroom. Since it fell onto the floor, I threw it out. I then promptly marched to the MAC counter to get a new tube of Twig, which, while not quite as rosy, can serve as a MLBB and does a far better job of lasting – for less money!

The color is nothing like the color on Max in 2 Broke Girls. I had heard this was her color which is why I bought it.
It’s a very pale MLBB with a waxy texture, poor pigmentation, a TINY amount of product and it has no lasting power. None. The color portion was rattling around in the casing in a cheap sort of way and broke the first time I used it, so I had to use it with a lip brush.
I think this stuff is useless, and in a blind test I would rate it way below similar drugstore products in every category. I would have been better off with an unflavored chapstick.

Bought and rebougjt for the colour, quite dehydrating though so with a lip balm is necessary or it’s starts to make your lips flake!! But love the peppermint soothing feeling after application

Probably the only lipstick I’ve ever bought more than 2 of, and I’m on my 5th stick of it. Love the color. It’s a perfect reddish/berry/tad of brown. I have compliments all the time when I wear. I love how it’s not shiny or sticky. Goes on smooth, slight hint of flavor, and lasts. I love a non-drying but also matte lipstick. I have oily skin so I don’t like my lips to be shiny also. Most matte lipsticks I’ve tried have dried my lips out. This is great…. Moisturizing while matte. And not sticky! (I hate lipgloss for the annoying sticky feeling, if you haven’t noticed). Highly recommend this.
