I love this scent on the initial spray. It’s lychee and rose. Beautiful simplicity. And the lychee in this is really good and realisitc, perfectly capturing that perfumey, juicy, tropical, almost grape-like tone of lychee. The rose helps to recreate the perfuminess of the fruit.
Unfortunately, I don’t love the drydown. The juicy quality disappears and is replaced by a dry, tart, slightly sour, slightly powdery rose & fruit combo. It reminds me of powdery, dry, crumbly, rose potpourri and red fruit punch at this stage, with a hint of melting, waxy crayons.

It doesn’t smell bad, just generic and juvenile. I hardly smell the rose, all I get is sweet sweet fruit. If there’s any depth to this one I can’t smell it because I’m drowning in all the syrup.
You can get the same effect for $10 in your local BBW. Don’t waste your time or money hunting this down.

I expected this to be a fruity rose scent, but it’s actually a rosy fruit scent. Taken on these terms, it’s luscious, with a splash of rosewater and a hint of booziness. But I’m not sure I want to smell like the world’s most delicious dessert. EDIT: I’m taking off a point. Over time, this becomes just too sweet.

This is most definitely not a perfume for eveyone. In order to love this your will need to be a lover of florals and with this said also can handle very sweet and heavy perfumes. Manakara is a composition of essence of rose and litchi however the rose is much more dominant. As it is so frutty/sweet, I can see this easily affecting indiciduals who are not perfume lovers in a negative way so this is not a scent I would wear in the office. I enjoy wearing this very much and it will enter into my evening scent collection.
On another note – on the pefume website where I purchased this fragrance it states that only 999 bottles were produced and when they were gone this was it. This fragrance is not new, well loved and sold world wide so I am a bit confused as to why it is still available for purchase? Was this a marketing gimmick?

I wholeheartedly agree with the couple reviews below, This starts out as a intense burst of sweet fresh flowers, and just gets even sweeter as it settles, like lychees draped in sugar syrup, way way too sickly sweet. PS this is not foody or gourmand cos I love those types of scents, so dont go thinking this is some delicious sweet perfume with some floral. No its almost headache inducing sickly sugar sweet. No one who smelt this on me liked it.

I must say this is blended well and the quality is top notch, but this sure is sweet. Sweet to the point where you feel like you’ve had too many sodas and you’re feeling a sugar crash coming on. Rose usually smells clean and sharp like you’ve just plucked the rose from the garden, but this rose smells like it’s been dipped in a warm sticky syrup. The lychee, I honestly could not detect. I was under the impression that lychee would be sharp and bitter, but I detected none of that in this perfume. It has lasting power and after a while I developed a headache. Try a sample before purchasing this fragrance.

OKaaaaay! I sniffed the vial and there was a weird, burnt rubbery note, but I thought it was Just Me Imagining Things! …. It wasn’t. 🙁 Sploshed the sample on my wrists and behind my ears and it was still there! Dirty, smoky, burnt rubber! After a few minutes some other notes timidly made themselves felt – lychee and vanilla – but I couldn’t smell any rose, or anything at all floral! The burnt note did fade, to the point where the scent was tolerable and I didn’t actually have to scrub it off, but this scent is just too candy-fruity-sweet for me! NEXT!

Ok, so maybe I do like fruity florals! The lychee in this doesn’t smell at all like dept store FF’s though. It is soft yet bright and of course, I love me some rose. Even though it’s not listed, there is wood of some sort of in this. Something cedar-y. I’ve read a bunch of descriptions saying that this smells ‘pink’, but I really don’t get that. It’s more pastel green, hee! I find decent sillage here and it lasts about 8 hours on my oily skin. I think the exclusive club concept is kind of silly and it’s not at all why I bought it. Matter of fact, the lovely SA at Scentbar didn’t mention it and I didn’t remember until I read about it on the website. Fantastically expensive, but I have high hopes that it will continue to be worth it!
