I’ve really loved all of the LMDLV’s I’ve smelled (Madagascar and Mexique are full bottle worthy) EXCEPT for this one. I was hoping for a pure vanilla as the name would lead you to believe, but all I smell is burnt caramel, campfire, and Carmex. Yes, Carmex. I guess theres a camphor note from something? I enjoy a good patchouli as long as it doesn’t smell like a headshop, but it is all wrong in this mix. This was a scrubber for sure.

Vanilla with burning logs; that’s what this smells like to me. When I first put it on, I was tempted to buy it because I was practically overcome by this overwhelming cozy nostalgic feeling. I kept sniffing my wrists trying to figure out what it was that was so strangely familiar. Then it hit me: a smokey campfire. A previous poster above mentioned that Absolu de Vanille smelled like marshmallows. I smell extremely burnt marshmallow stickiness left on a burnt log. Barely sweet, but there is a blast of lasting vanilla. While this fragrance is not unpleasant, it is just not my type as I prefer vanillas that are sweeter and don’t smell like they’ve been burning in a fireplace.

“Top Note: Absolute Vanilla… Heart Notes: Patchouli, Benzoin, Opoponax… Base Notes: Absolute Tonka Bean, Cistus Labadanum, Absolute Vanilla.”
I like all of the Maison de la Vanille scents that I’ve tried (Vanille Noire du Mexique is my favorite). They’re all pleasant and reasonably priced. Some of them don’t have the greatest throw and staying power, but Absolu de Vanille is rather strong and long lasting on me.
I don’t find this to be a very complex scent. It’s like a strong, sugared vanilla marshmallow with a hint of what smells like dried chili pepper on me (might be a hint of dry, spicy-ish patchouli?). But mostly it smells like sugary marshmallows. If you like a sweet vanilla, this one is nice, but it’s sometimes a bit too sweet for me.

I LOVE LaMaison Vanille Absolu de Vanille! While I’ve enjoyed the vanilla scents from this line, I never found one quite bottle worthy (vanillas have to be special for me since I must have at least 30+ vanillas that I LOVE!!). This one reminds me of the original L’Occitane Vanille…very sweet, very rich….I wish I could do a side by side comparison but alas, my last bottle of L’Occitane Vanille is long gone. If you are on the hunt for a sweet (but not cloying) fairly pure (but not linear) rich foody vanilla scent, this fits the bill!
