I regret buying this hairspray and I can’t return the stupid thing because it was on clearance. My salon was having sale and I’m always down for a new hairspray. This was marked down to $10. It retails for $16. The amplify line has been around since the dinosaurs however a few years ago, it got new packaging and its called “Total Results Amplify.” A long time ago, I purchase the amplify root booster and that sucked so I really wasn’t shocked that the hairspray sucked too. It is suppose to be a finishing spray to give flexible hold and volume. True that this is a light finishing spray but it offers ZERO hold and it actually made my hair flat and limp. My hair is long thick and heavy with a lot of long layers. I need a spectacular hairspray to actually hold my layers in place but not give me a helmet head. This reminds me of cheap drugstore hairsprays like John Frieda that don’t do squat. I’m mad about this now. Peace out.

Not impressed with this one. I really like Matrix Biolage Freeze Fix so was hoping that this Amplify formula would help hold volume in my hair as it is a texturizing spray. It gives me volume for about 15 minutes. Has a strong scent that I did not like.

I literally went up and down all the shelves at the local beauty supply, looking for an aerosol hairspray that would provide hold without stiffness, stickiness or weight. I also wanted something that didn’t dull the shine (and maybe even added some!).
The sales people were useless…nice, but they had no recommendations…all they could do was read the labels to me. I can do that on my own, and it came down to Matrix Amplify or Rusk W8less. Not sure if I made the wrong choice, considering the reviews for W8less, but I sure didn’t make the right one.
For the record, I have color-treated hair (highlights & low-lights), thick but fine-textured (just grew it out after chemo…it’s finally just past my shoulders). I use large ceramic rollers to add volume. My old favorite hair spray (Focus 21 Splash Finishing Spray) just doesn’t cut it with my new hair and I am having a hard time finding anything that works. Grrrrr!
Back to my point…
At first, Amplify’s quick-dry fine mist spray gave me incredible volume and hold. I did the “flip upside-down & spray, then position bangs & waves in place & spray again” trick. It looked and felt great. Shiny, bouncy, but held it’s shape. I thought I’d found my new hairspray! I got compliments at work when I first got there, then about an hour later, at 2 different times, I was asked “what happened to your hair?” and “what did you do? Your hair went flat!” Lovely. The bottle is so tall, it’s not exactly something you can take with you for re-touching (IF you consider re-touching acceptable…once I get to work, I do not).
When I checked it out a few hours later, it was not only flat, it looked greasy!
The volume went away, the hold didn’t stay and the healthy shine turned to greasy-looking hair. My hair went limp and embarrassing. I wanted to put it in a pony tail and run home to wash it.
I’ve tried using less Amplify spray, but it refuses to hold. When I add a little more, it’s fine for a while, but within an hour or so, it goes limp again. What a waste.
My search continues for the right hairspray or perhaps the right combo of products as I’ll probably try mousse or something also. Going to see if the Biolage Thermal Active Setting Spray still works for me, but I’ll still need hairspray.

I bought this product hoping that It would help my fine limp hair look like it has a little volume. I have never been able to get any more volume with it. I also cant stand the smell of it. And the can it to tall to fit anywhere. I do like that it never makes your hair crunchy or sticky, found I find that in the heat and humidity it does nothing.

**UPDATE- now that humidity has really hit my hair goes limp very quick***I have long dyed blonde fine hair that many products weigh down.
PROS: Smells great, can spray your hair until the cows come home and there is no stickiness or crunchiness, just enough hold to keep it in place. Hair is even better the next day – can add more product to add some texture to it.
CONS: My bright shiny hair goes pretty dull with this product. **goes limp in summer heat***

One of my favorite hairsprays of all time. It holds fairly decent-not stiff or sticky, and it brushes out great, too. I have extremely straight hair, and this holds curl pretty well. I think it smells clean, also-but it is WAY overpriced.

This is on the pricey side for me!! I only use this for my roots as I’m always looking for some lift at the top and this works pretty nice. I flip sections of my hair over and just spray the roots, let it dry and it dries kind of hard, then do more sections and then i flip my head over when all the sections are dry and rake through with my fingers to soften it and yes it looks volumized but it kind of softens/flattens out after a few hours. The next day it absorbs all the oil in my roots and seems more volumized again. But I still have to wash my hair because it doesn’t feel fresh. Good stuff, but expensive :-/

Amazing hairspray, make my hair nice and big.

Didn’t hold well at all. I was looking for a light hold just to give my hair some volume. This was not good at all. I returned it. Got the VaVoom instead and it is much better.

Aveda Pure Abundance hair spray is the best volumizing spray on the market because it volumizes and HOLDS that volume through the day. Matrix Amplify is a decent second; it amplifies beautifully and has a wonderfully dry, non tacky texture. However, it doesn’t hold the volume in my hair all day, so Aveda remains my first choice. I would keep a bottle of Amplify on hand as a decent backup if–IF–it didn’t smell like death. Or burning hair. (Whichever you think is worse.) The scent fades after it dries, but I can still detect it. 🙁
