I was able to get this on sale for $28. I am quite pleased with the palette. The Stila In the Light palette has been my favorite palette for years (I also own Lorac pro, It Cosmetics Celebration, thebalm balm Jovi, and some Smashbox trios).
What I love about this over the ITL palette are the pops of color with the blue and purple. I always thought ITL would be perfect with those additions. However, there are two things I prefer about ITL over this : the color I thought was going to a matte mauve is actually more of a peach in this one. I prefer bliss to that color on my skin tone. Also, I prefer the color bare in ITL to the light matte skintone color in this one. So there are some trade offs. I’m not sure which I would use to travel.

Given how quickly this sold out in my area (SDM seems to be the only place it was available) I am surprised there aren’t any other reviews for this pretty package of holiday fun. I see that this palette is now marked down at Stila’s site but here in Canada, Stila is one of those brands that is heavily marked up in price, which is VERY annoying but I was able to get this “for free” using my Shopper’s Drug Mart Optimum points. I’m a real sucker for Stila shadows. A lot of people say the shadows fade quickly but I’ve never found that and almost every single one of their shadows, whether they’re ones I’ve purchased as singles or in palettes, has been a pleasure to use over and over again. My only concern with their newer releases is that they seem to crumble and shatter easily. I’ve not experienced this (yet) but it makes me reluctant to take these travelling, even for a weekend away.
Trust in Love is a beautiful assortment of 12 shadows ranging from neutral to muted colours and from matte to satin to sheen. Also included are a lip gloss in a peach sheer colour (not the greatest shade for me) and a mascara called “Huge”. I’m not crazy for mascaras that give a really over the top/artificial effect and I think that’s what this is meant to do but I just apply it lightly and brush through with a clean mascara brush and it’s perfectly fine. For me, it’s the eyeshadows that make this kit. Plum and Sapphire are the 2 “non-neutrals” and both are lovely and really add to the versatility and fun of using these shadows. The shimmery neutrals are gorgeous and every shade is a pleasure to wear and to use.
The packaging is cute but impractical. The envelope “flap” (and faux wax seal) really gets in the way (it’s only great good luck that I’ve not gouged the surface of the shadows with it) but what really bothers me is that the shadow names are NOWHERE on the palette – not written on the inside, not on a sheer cello sheet and not even on the BOTTOM of the palette. They are only printed on the outer box, which is fine if you keep all your packaging (I don’t) and don’t mind hauling it out to refer to it (I DO mind). But, having got this for “free”, I am totally happy with this purchase.
Update: I found a Staedtler fine tipped permanent marker in my desk (no idea I even had this) and it is perfect for writing the names of the shadows right beneath them, which is what I’ve done. As it says it marks on almost anything, I tried it on my TF Chocolate Bar Palette and to my amazement, it worked on that one too!
