Love this polish – Cleopatra in New York by Deborah Lippman. I was hesitant to try this brand because of the price. I have recently been able to find some Deborah Lippman colors at discount stores and I love it. I have been an avid nail polish wearer since my teens and love painting my nails. I have always favored OPI since it is usually very consistent with how it wears and I know what to expect when polishing. The Deborah Lippman brand has now become another favorite.
There are no loud chemical smells. I have precision application probably due to brush size and shape. I do not have problems with nail polish getting on my skin and I have small nail beds. Color dries fast. The color Cleopatra in New York is long wearing and jazzes up plain black nail polish by including large gold glitter pieces. As another reviewer mentioned 2 coats are good but a richer color results with 3 coats. Both matte and shiny top coats are a nice match for this nail polish.
To wear this polish I applied 2 layers of base coat, 2 coats of Cleopatra in NY, and a top coat on day 1. I add a top coat each day for the first four days of nail polish wear and my manicures last longer than 1 week without chipping. I also prep my nails thoroughly by washing and scrubbing my nails with a nail brush. I dry the nails and then wipe with either acetone or alcohol to remove any residue. I also slightly buff my nails using a 4 way buffer which further helps remove residue and prepare the nail plate for painting.
Favorite base coat is Revlon Colorstay base coat and favorite top coat is Essie Gel Setter. During the week I use any top coat I have in front of me to add an additional coat of protection.

This is a beautiful nail polish with a horrible chipping problem. I have never in my life seen a nail polish chip like this. It doesn’t even last a single day – last time I wore it, it didn’t even last two hours through my dinner date before a large chip flaked off. That’s despite using a basecoat, two layers of polish, and a careful application of top coat – and not even washing my hands. I am so disappointed because it is gorgeous. But if a polish can’t even make it through a single night, what use is it? Too bad this glitter formula is not on par with Deborah Lippmann’s other glitters. I’m hoping someone comes out with a nice dupe, that works better than its original!

I was only able to wear this once until it fell out of my medicine cabinet and smashed all over my sink. I drop stuff all of the time but I’ve never had a nail polish bottle smash open like that. I would like to try other shades but I don’t want to spend $19 on what will easily become broken garbage. This polish was initially streaky and I won’t soon know how great it might have been. It did stick to my sink stubbornly though, if that’s any indicator, haha! If you have any, handle with care! I think the bottle would be to fragile for my two big baskets of nail polish, and too vulnerable to fall anywhere else. Too bad.

You have got to be kidding me. I bought this nail polish in a set of other miscellaneous products from Sephora and I am tremendously disappointed. I spent forty minutes applying this polish and a top coat and within twelve hours it was already chipping off in HUGE CHUNKS. I could not believe it. I have noticed that the nail polishes that have large glitter particles have a tendency to chip faster than solid nail polishes, but this was just ridiculous. I had one-third of the nail polish just come off of the nail in one shot. By the next morning, six of my nails were chipping horribly and noticeably. I touched them up the next day, and again, within six hours they were chipping again. I have no idea what kind of scam it is to pay $19 for a nail polish that does not even last through the night. I will never purchase anything from Deborah Lippmann ever again.

Cleopatra in New York is an eye catching polish consisting of golden glitter particles suspended in a black gel base. Consistency is fairly thick and application is smooth. I achieve opacity in two coats and the dry time is quick. CiNY wears well on its own but I recommend a good top coat for extended wear. There are two drawbacks, the price and the easy dupability. Eighteen dollars is expensive for a nail polish. Thankfully, I bought CiNY while on sale and only paid eight dollars. I wouldn’t have purchased at full price. Also, if you already own a black cream polish and a gold glitter polish, you could definitely pass on CiNY. The quality of the formula is the best feature. Consistent with the other DL polishes I own, the quality is outstanding. If you’re into black and gold and like glitter, I recommend.
