I have color treated 3C curls. This is a decent product that in many ways reminds me of Deva Curl Lo Poo. While not generating lather, it does foam a tiny bit. The scent is a typical salon hair care product scent, and it is not overwhelming. You do have to use a fair amount of product to get clean. Rinses well. Even though it is a cleansing conditioner, I needed another product to keep my hair manageable. It requires a second step conditioner, or in my case a leave in, to keep my curls smooth and defined.

The only conditioning wash that I’ve come across in Malaysia so I can’t compare against others. After many years of trying to straighten whether through heat or chemical treatments I thought of giving my curly/wavy hair a rest. I was intrigued by the concept of co-washing which is unheard of here (sadly so is embracing your natural waves/curls so the variety of products available to cater to this category is seriously lacking here).
I followed as per instructions, which is to divide hair into sections and massage it in – don’t expect it to lather because its sulfate free – then leave for the duration of the shower. It rinses clean and leaves my hair soft. The humid weather here means I can’t go too long without washing my hair so this was a nice and faster alternative to using regular shampoo and conditioner. Can’t say my hair was totally frizz free or my curls/waves were more defined but overall I found this product to be gentle, conditioning and with a pleasant smell. The pump is a pain though, I found it insufficient in terms of getting the product out, I had to pump many times to get a decent amount and at times I found unscrewing the cap to plop out the product easier.
Although it’s no miracle product I would consider revisiting this in the future if I can get the hang of managing the state of my natural hair (I’ve gone back to blow drying my hair straight due to a haircut mishap!).

I bought Ouidad’s Curl Co-Wash because my stylist used it and recommended it. I think after reading reviews that it’s better suited for curly curls with thick, coarse hair. On my fine curls, it doesn’t lather at all, weighs them down, and makes my hair feel greasy after just a day. The whole point of a co-wash is to wash your hair less often, but I’m definitely washing more frequently with this since it doesn’t lather and cleanse as much as my fine hair needs. It’s a little on the pricey side, so I guess it’s a good thing I’ve been using it so often. I’ll get through the bottle pretty quickly. Even though it’s not for me, I will say that it smells fantastic. Let me stress that. It smells really and truly fantastic. It also detangles like a dream. Give it a try if you’ve got a thicker head of curls.

The packaging of this product is very poor. The pump broke before I even got around to using it but after reading other reviews I thought I would try it out anyway. The scent is quite nice, nothing to outrageous and it doesn’t really linger. I’m currently using it 2/3 times a week and to be honest I’m not going to be buying it again. It is overpriced for what you are really getting. It cleans alright but it doesn’t really leave my relaxed hair feeling that nice, kind of slimy, still clean though. You’d think that’s the worst part but after 2 days my scalp begins itching like crazy. I’m pretty sure its this product because it’s literally the only thing I’ve changed. Not really sure what it is about it but I basically always have to clarify my hair for it to stop which defeats the purpose of using a cowash. Running back to my philip kingsley moisture extreme.

ETA-I still love the scent, but i suspect this is the culprit behind my scalp breakouts. So sorry to give it up. I guess it’s back to Deva No Poo for me. 🙁
Original review: I have curly hair, so shampooing every day is a no-go. By the same token, I have oily hair, so I want to wash it as much as possible! I have not yet found a dry shampoo that is not more trouble than it’s worth, and the second day sprays can be really hit or miss with their results. So this product has been a godsend. It’s not as harsh as a regular shampoo, since it has no sulfates. It just has a little cleanser in a conditioner base. It has a nice thick texture and leaves my hair nicely conditioned whether I use another conditioner or not (I usually do, because the more conditioned curly hair is, the better.) But I could definitely skip that step and still get nice results. The only drawback (besides the price) is that because of the lack of sulfates, it does not foam really well. So you end up using a lot of product per wash. WTHBS, I got the 16 oz bottle and it has lasted me a few months of twice weekly use and is not used up yet. Ouidad is not a cheap habit by a long shot. But they know curly hair, and mine is much happier when I use it. And since Ouidad frequently goes on sale at Hautelook, I will keep stocking up when it does.

I’m crazy about this co-wash. I’ve been “co-washing” for years, and the products I use that are formulated specifically to be cleansing conditioners always have a hefty dose of menthol that makes me smell like muscle liniment and lingers in my hair for days. Ouidad Co-wash has a lovely flowery scent and it makes my hair smell fresh and pretty. I need to use about half the amount of Ouidad Co-wash that I regularly use for cleanser, because this product is highly concentrated. Also, it foams, which feels nice on my scalp and makes it easy to know when the product is thoroughly rinsed out. I can use this a few times a week without any drying effects. It doesn’t work to detangle knots, but it doesn’t cause tangles either. If you like Ouidad Climate Control Shampoo you’ll probably love this Co-wash. The cleansers are similar but the Co-wash is more moisturizing and nourishing.
