For £2.00 I really wasn’t expecting anything at all from this mascara, but as Primark (in the UK) have just started to broaden their makeup and cosmetics range, I was intrigued to give this a try if only to see how it would hold up against its drugstore rivals.
As I said, I wasn’t expecting anything at all, but this plesantly surprised me. The wand is a standard fibre one (as opposed to the more modern day preference for plastic ones), but it applied the mascara really well and didn’t clump. For such a cheap mascara, it didn’t have the cheap, plastic smell that others have which I’ve tried in the past, although it did take a little longer to dry. I applied 2-3 coats, mainly to see how it would hold up to repeated application, and to its credit it performed well. No clumping, no crusty looking eyelashes and it did seem to add a bit of volume.
For such a cheap mascara, the packaging is actually very nice. As you can see from the pictures, it’s gold and black, with the black parts in a brushed plastic effect giving it a nice feel when you’re holding it. I used this for about 4-5 weeks most days, and the packaging looked just as good at the end as it did at the beginning, which can’t be said for some of the more expensive brands out there.
The only slight downside for me is it did dry out pretty quickly, but for £2.00 I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase another one if I was passing by my local Primark. In actual fact, you could buy four of these for the price of one drugstore mascara, which is enough of a reason for me! Would definitely recommend this one.
NOTE: I think Primark may have rebranded this to ‘Volumising Mascara’ as of late 2015.
