Zen Detox is marketed as a hair mask, but if sprinkled dry onto your roots, it makes the best volumizing hair powder / dry shampoo I’ve ever tried!
I have very fine, thinning hair that gets greasy easily, but my scalp is fairly sensitive so I don’t like to use root volumizing products unless I’m attending a special event. One morning, my hair was looking flat and disgusting, so I decided on a whim to sprinkle some of the dry Zen Detox powder at my roots and see if it would work as a sort of a dry shampoo. The effect was AMAZING – I have never been one of those girls who can get away with “second-day hair” but after using the dry Zen Detox powder, my hair looked clean and bouncy, and had much more volume! It does create a little bit of a mattifying effect (as most volumizing powders or dry shampoos do) but the volume and “clean” look makes it well worth the tradeoff of losing a little shine.
I also use it on freshly-washed hair to give my roots an extra volume boost. It has never irritated my scalp, and keeps my hair looking fuller all day long. I have now transferred the powder into an empty spice shaker to make application easier and allow me to get it closer to the roots – works great! It makes a fairly nice hair mask too when used according to the package directions, but I think this “off-label” use as a dry shampoo is where it really stands out as an excellent product!
