Ok so this review is for the shampoo & conditioner used in tandem. I did a little research before reviewing these products… mainly to try to pinpoint what they smell like. If you’ve ever used any of the John Frieda Brilliant Brunette line you’ll know what I’m talking about. The products have a distinct scent which I find to be truly wonderful, but hard to put a finger on. Some reviewers describe it as coconut, or cocoa butter, or caramel, or vanilla… the list goes on. I’d have to say to me it smells most like cocoa and caramel but not quite so gourmand (I know… on paper it makes no sense.) I’d say pick up a bottle and smell for yourself. BUT…
In doing my research, I found that within the past month or so they changed the formula. Namely the scent. People say it smells like a man’s cologne now. Which is strange because the original scent was perfect. I must have lucked out and picked up an older bottle because the smell I get is the same one I remember from having used this back in high school. It’s oddly comforting to me. Anyways, there’s other good things about this shampoo other than the smell.
These products don’t dry my hair out at all and are moisturizing. I feel that they do enhance my brunette color but this version is NOT the kind that deposits color (although they do make those as well.) My hair feels soft and isn’t weighed down.
However, I’ll never repurchase this line again. Not only does the prospect of a manly cologne-smelling product not appeal to me but I’ve completely gone cruelty-free with my makeup purchases and am doing so with my hair/body products as well.
