Nothing celery-like in this fragrance on my skin–at all! For a moment, I thought it would be too much fresh orange. The topnotes were just overflowing with it. However, it turned into candied, spiced rinds with a little smokiness to it. I am SO impressed. I would like to own this.

Agree with Mysterious_scent and zeynepad below. Spicy celery. Followed by watery orange. However, not as bad as my one star rated Avon Extraordinary and SL Bois Sepia. I also prefer this to SL Chypre Rouge as Chypre rouge turns to curry on me. . . The herbs here remain somewhat herbal, in the same way as 4711 (a good thing). However, I am not certain I want to smell like celery. So, Whether this works seems entirely skin chemistry dependent. Normally, I can wear most SLs.
My skin chemistry is a bit quirky, so if it helps:
The infamous Une Fleur de Cassie and the sulfurous Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune garner compliments when I wear them. I can also wear scents with cumin, I.e., bigarade concentree
Eau de Hadrian smells like lemon furniture polish on me (Pledge)
Nuits de Hadrian smells like I’ve spilt curry on my arm and I was previously wearing a citrus cologne.
MKK smells like a soft rose musk in me; SL Rose de Nuit is slightly more challenging.
Lady vengeance smells like plastic with artificial sweetener; tocade, forget it.
Caron vintage Narcisse Noire, Shiaperelli shocking and Piguets Baghari smell slightly urinous; I cannot wear. . . .
Yatagan does not smell like pot or celery on me, but smoke, incense and woods and dry grass.

Spicy tangerine and syrup, softening into a gorgeous, slightly dusty, slightly tart amber. This isn’t a fragrance to project; I don’t want others to smell it on me. No – this is just for me: a comforting yet mysterious scent that I want to curl around. Even more than SL’s supposedly tea-inspired Five o’clock au Gingembre (which I also love), this is the perfume that makes me think of tea by a roaring stove. A beautiful, original perfume.

A beautiful heavy sexy oriental with a strong and syrupy orange flower note, just makes my ole heart sing! But strangely, out of the constant miasma of hundreds of perfumes in my house, it is one my daughter (age 20) started prowling around looking for and I had to hide.

If you can survive the initial blast of very strong celery note, Mandarine Mandarin is actually very interesting. After half an hour, it turns into an organic green scent. It reminds me mandarin orchard in summer time, no blossoms, just trees, bitter mandarin leaves and yet-to-mature fruits, with only a hint of sweetness.

This IS Tresor by Lancome! Add a little smokiness and you get Mandarine Mandarin. I am not going to paint some fairy tale and build up your expectations only for you to end up disappointed. I mean, I know how hard it is to get a hold of some SL so if there is a mall near you, go sample Tresor. If you like what you sniff from Tresor and want some smokiness then get Mandarine Mandarin.
I was in search of a deep, dry, complex and unique citrus scent (emphasis on dry and unique) and a lot of people recommended SL Mandarine but I ended up being reunited with Tresor. This is not a bad scent by any means but for me this was a let down. Tresor was one of my signature scents in high school. I was way ahead of my peers. No teenage fragrances for this girl lol! Anyways, I really really wanted something different.
The spices are seriously deadened by the screaming caramel sugared mandarine so much so that you don’t smell them unless you actively search. The smokey tea holds its own and nicely blends with the candied mandarine. In fact, I think the spices are mixed into the smokey tea and then added into the mandarine if that makes any sense. What I am trying to say is that whatever little spice is in there, I sniff them in the smoked tea and not in the candied mandarine. Smoked spiced tea + seriously candied mandarine= Mandarine Mandarin.

Notes: Chinese orange, nutmeg, clove, candied mandarin, orange peel, smoky tea, rock rose, labdanum, tonka bean, musk and ambergris.
This fragrance opens with a blast of juicy orange notes framed by nutmeg, clove and a touch of anise. The spices add depth and character to the citrus notes which start out sparkly and bright and then slowly become darker and quieter. Underneath the spices I smell a sweet base which is too vanilla-like to come from the citrus notes. As the fragrance progresses smoky tea and labdanum join the framing spice notes and the fragrance reminds me very much of one of these old pictures with large gilded frames that almost overwhelm the painting. On my skin the fragrance loses a lot of its power very soon and I dare say it does not sing on me. The more the fragrance dries, the more salty and resinous it becomes, there are certain moments I think I smell a rich red wine. Despite its weaknesses, this is a very sensual scent. Lasts for 4 hours on my skin.

Mandarine Mandarin: a postmodern symphony in three parts moving downhill. Part I: Mandarin peels burning on a stove. So realistic that it is almost uncanny. Beautiful, real scent with darker undertones but nothing I would like to wear on myself and go out. Part II: Unexpected spice attack. To my surprise, there is something in it that my skin amplifies in a wrong wrong way. The skank people seem to be getting from Fleurs d’Oranger seems to have caught me here. Is it the nutmeg that smells like celeriac for god’s sake? Part III: watercolour oranges. really light and watery. Still, it is always interesting to sniff this one, so I feel like adding a point. Also, the bottle is heavenly. Indeed, this is the only perfume that I find very empty bottle worthy.

Next to Sweet Oriental Dream, this is my HG. The most beautiful, candied-citrus fragrance. Sir Lutens has created a masterpiece with Mandarine-Mandarin. Candied orange peel, deep smoky tea… ummm simply deliscious! A miracle in a bottle, a citrus fragrance with so much depth? Wow, simply amazing. Right now I have samples and decants, and am dreaming of my very own bell jar!

Gorgeous frag… and once more, I do not get the super bad ratings.
A deep, waxy, candied mandarin, succulent and opulent.
With a smoke/burnt note, very similar to the one you get when you let an orange or a mandarin peel on a stove just to smell the oils the peel will release.
Has a green accord too, in the middle note. Not many flowers here…
very unusual, not your typical citrus (well, do not search here for summer fresh one, !) Mandarine Mandarin has a little skanky, musky note.
Delicious. Not for everybody, I assume. but I love it!!
