So today is May 1, 2016 and I just opened up an email from Makeupalley, one of my favorite sites, and it was an article about sunscreen, one of my favorite beauty products, and I have tried dozens. I clicked on the link for ‘sunscreen for normal skin’ and at the top of the list is the LaMer SPF tinted sunscreen that WAS one of my favorites. Until it was discontinued several years ago! It is currently replaced by a new higher SPF version that is a poor substitute. Makeupalley, please correct this mistake.

I bought this product a few years ago, it was a great sunscreen and moisturizer in one for the spring, summer months in Calgary, but not enough for the winter. I have since moved on to other product due to the outrageous price tag of $87.00. The reason I’m writing a review years later is that, this is one product that I would consider re-purchasing and have thought about it again and again when I pass Holt Renfrew. I had a bad case of acne and this product, while not helping it, didn’t do anything to make it worse. It was very calming on my skin, as I was under going treatments at the time. I liked the smell, it absorbed really quickly and my face felt comfortable all day. When you buy as many products as I do, you remember the one’s that stood out, even if you are not using them anymore, and this is one on my list that I would tell someone to buy if they had the $$ to spare.

I bought this before going on vacation, put it on once a day over the gel cream and never got burned. I continued to use it through the summer and only got burned one time and that was likely because I sat in the water all day and never reapplied. My one tube lasted all summer and I still have some left. Absolutely worth the price since it lasts forever and is not greasy. I hate the feeling of sunscreen and will typically go without, this is the ONLY one I will put on my face.

I love this tinted sunscreen. Gives a nice glow and protects my skin for everyday use. When I am going to have a lot of exposure to the sun it is not enough protection, but for the majority of days, it works perfect. Not greasy or smelly. Great light weight feeling.

Pros:
Good protection for day to day use
Amazing texture and scent
Packaging is easy control and portable
Cons:
Over priced
The UV filters
Conclusion:
I loved the texture of product and the dewy finish it had on my skin. It was moisturizing enough during a Toronto winter and light enough during the early part of the spring. The SPF is good enough for day to day, but they could have used better UV filters. This is by far my favourite La Mer product, but I would only repurchase if I found it for a bargain.
Alternatives:
Vichy Capital Soleil SPF 20 Gel Cream – just as easy to wear day to day with a similar dewy finish, but much cheaper

I purchased the SPF Fluid in August, and have absolutely fallen in love. This product is the perfect daily wear sunscreen for guys. Every morning after cleansing and applying my Creme de La Mer, I apply a liberal amount of the SPF Fluid. It goes on very easy, allowing you to work it into every part of your face, even near your eyes without burning or irritation. Another great point of this products which makes it especially great for guys is that it can easily be worked into a “scruffy” beard, which allows you to protect your skin even when you have went a few days without shaving. The product sales for $65, yet it lasts me 5 months, which means it costs about $13 per month to protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun. If you purchase the product online from LaMer.com, you get free shipping a lots of free samples. Which works out really well especially if you sign up for emails from them…. then you can watch to see when they are offering samples of things that will work great for you.
My skincare routine consists of:
The La Mer Gel Cleanser
The La Mer Refining Facial (a few times a week)
The La Mer Creme De La Mer
The La Mer SPF 18 Fluid (non tinted version)

YES. I bought this back in August, haven’t run out yet, and have been using it everyday! I layer it over my moisturizer (and on special occasions, before my foundation), and I immediately have a clean, matte, no fuss look. I wish the spf 18 were higher, but I can deal. I have this in medium, and it seems to be a flexible shade of color; sheer and blendable but enough to even out and brighten my complexion. I have sensitive combination skin, and this doesn’t irritate.

Well what can i say about this product? It’s fantastic! It is a very light-weight product which lets your skin breathe and look even-toned. It’s your skin but better. There is no trace of makeup/tint so no one can tell you are wearing it. It spreads easily and is easy to apply (I use my freshly cleansed fingers). The tube is lovely too and is of good size, plus it’s hygienic. I also have to say that it gives my face an illuminating effect but not greasy or oily. The only downfall is the price which btw is Cdn $90+ (before taxes). Also, buyers beware that this is not a moisturizer so it won’t give you the hydrating properties and hence, applying a moisturizer underneath may be advisable if your skin is dehydrated or during the winter months. I use ‘Light (2)’ and find that it is a good match for my NC20ish skintone. Will continue to purchase. The fact that La Mer does NOT test on animals was the sole reason why I risked paying such a hefty amount of money to try this product, and am glad I did. EDIT: I returned it because no matter what I tried to say to myself to convince myself to keep it, the hefty pricetag was not justifiable. I use my liquid foundations and mix them with my lotion or sunscreen and it gives me a ‘tinted moisturizer’ look. Figured, this technique will help me finish my foundations that I have and also save my $100+. Effect is better kuz it provides me with enough coverage to hide my pimples and acne scars (which La Mer did not provide as it’s extremely sheer). I’m still giving this 4 lippies because it’s good if you already have flawless skin and don’t need coverage, and also if you have the $$ to splurge.

I bought this stuff based on the reviews here along with the foaming face wash and a sample of the cream gel. I have to say I am extremely gutted I wasted so much money on these products as they did nothing for my skin except make it spotty and red/blotchy. I passed the stuff on to my mum who has had the same problems. It is such a shame as I had high hopes for this line!

EDIT: I notice small bumps on my cheeks and some pigmentation on the side of my mouth . Not for me, taking away 1 lippy. Back to Clarins I go (as good as home as usual!!)
