I absolutely love Pacifica lotions and other body products. They smell great and go on nice and smooth. I have been looking for a natural gel eyeliner as my clinique one has many bad ingredients. Many all natural companies do not have gel eyeliners as an option. All pencils, which I can’t really use.
So, since I love pacificas lotions, I figured I’d try this eyeliner. I normally wear black and do not navy, but it looked so nice and said I can deal without black. The pricing, I have to admit is not bad compared to the other mainstream eyeliners I’ve bought. However, disappointed with the pigmentation. Very sheer and I was not expecting that. And as others said, impossible to layer. If you attempt that, it does clump and smears where you can see skin through.
Too bad I did not see these reviews. I guess my next “natural” try will be Tarte. Oh well.

I like Pacifica’s eye shadow, however I wish I would have read the reviews before buying this useless eyeliner gel. I do like their eyeliner pencil, although it smudges easily. The eyeliner gel is excessively sheer and it’s a shame because it looks beautiful in the pot. It was still a bit pricey for being on sale and that’s how Pacifica seems to make their money.

I love Midnight’s deep black-blue color that intensifies the green in my eyes and makes the whites look whiter. I use this for tightlining beneath my lash line and in between my lashes. Its silky formula applies easily and evenly, and it lasts until I wash it off. This is easy to wear sheer, or heavy and blended. Great summer eyeliner!

The texture isn’t what I would expect from a product claiming to be a gel; if you try to just put your finger in the pot it feels very waxy and hard, and once you put a brush in it it appears to soften up a bit but it is still pretty waxy. It applies very patchy, as both a liner and a shadow base; it streaks and I was never able to layer it without the new layer messing up a different section of my liner or shadow. The pigmentation appears to be pretty bad as well; it doesn’t apply as dark blue as it does in the pot and it looks more black than it does a dark blue.

This is the worst eyeliner I have ever used. It is waxy and not at all the “gel” the packaging claims. It goes on like a weird combination of wax and chalk, with lots of little crumbs that leave blue marks on your skin when you chase them down. Besides that, it’s totally translucent and not the deep sapphire one would expect from a product called “Smolder.” I tried it with primer; sealed with powder; and smeared on my lids as shadow. Nothing seems to make it stay — it fades into the creases on the lid and looks terrible. It’s crap. I sent mine back for a refund.

This is a beautiful color but applies very streaky. It helps if u have primer and powder shadow on but still not that great. I like the company’s philosophy but it really bugs me that they don’t publish bad reviews. It makes me question their honesty.

Worst gel liner I have ever used. I purchased “Midnight” and it is incredibly sheer and creamy. It smears immediately, does not give much color, clumps, and is not buildable. This was a complete waste of money. Pacifica needs to either reformulate this or discontinue it because, as it is, this is an unusable product.

Pros:
– Natural
– Creamy
– Applies easily
– Vegan
Cons:
– Sheer and not buildable
– Expensive ($13-$15 for 0.07 oz)
– May be difficult to find in-store(?)
Reference:
I purchased this product at my local Target for $13.99 USD. I have oily skin this includes my eyelids as well, so any eyeliner and mascara I apply inevitably smudges at one point or another during the day. I don’t invest in primer because I don’t have the “real estate” which to apply eyeshadow.
My Experience:
At first glance, this appears to be a matte black liner, but it sheers out a bit upon application. The Pacifica page for the Smolder Eye Lining Gel describes this shade, “Midnight,” as a deep navy, but due to the pigmentation (or lack of) comes off more as a charcoal color on my fair-medium skintone. When I apply this product, I gently tap my angled eyeliner brush in the product—it feels more like a cream than a gel—a few times and dab it on my lashline, smoothing it out in the brushing motion in the end. As other MUA users have pointed out, the color is not very buildable.
What should be said about the SELG is that it can also be used as an eyeshadow. Although I haven’t used it as a cream shadow, I think this the reason why the color payoff isn’t intense; it applies translucent, much like a watercolor paint. When I tried swatching this product on the back of my hand, it easily blended out to almost nothing. However, if allowed to set for a few moments, blended or not, it’s not going to budge. If layered, the top layer may transfer if disturbed, but the outline or “shadow” of the line will remain until wiped off with cleanser or makeup remover.
What surprised me about this product is that this outlasts the Revlon ColorStay, my usual go-to eyeliner. No matter how much oil I blot from my eyelids throughout the day, fading and smudging persists with the Revlon CS. This, the Pacifica SELG, remained as opaque (as opaque as this product gets) with some blotting, throughout the day, even through moderate exercise.
This product receives 4 out of 5 lippies from me because of the natural ingredients and that it IS an average product. It is just finicky to work with—it requires time to set to make the most out of wear time.
Other Comments:
The Pacifica Smolder Eye Liner Gel comes packaged in a white plastic screw-off top type of container. The cover has a clear window in the center so that the product shade can be easily seen. I gave the packaging for this product 4 out of 5 lippies only because it feels cheap and flimsy.
Closing Commentary:
I will continue to use this product until I run out or it becomes too dried out to use, I won’t repurchase once either of that happens. The Pacifica SELG can be made to work, but may not be worth the effort. This may be a product worth trying out for anyone who prefers to use cosmetics that are made with plant-derived or “eco-friendly” products. However, for anyone else who is just in the market for a decent pot eyeliner and having around $14-$16 USD to burn, skip this and invest in MAC Fluidline instead.

As a fan of all natural makeup, I was delighted to see the new line of Pacifica makeup in my local HFS. Midnight is a beautiful and sexy color, and I was excited to try it. I am a long-time gel liner user and while I am satisfied with the Tarte line, wanted something MORE natural. Sadly, despite excellent natural ingredients, Pacifica Midnight has some serious problems with application. No matter the primer used or brush employed, this product goes on lumpy and inconsistently. It is either too thin, and almost sheer, or crumbly and lumpy (if more heavily applied). It is nearly impossible to achieve a nice and professional look. I went back to my HFS and tried the other colors, in hopes that they would be an improvement, but, alas, irrespective of the shade, this product is absolutely unacceptable.

I bought this gel eyeliner at a health food store because I thought ‘why not?’. I had never tried any products by this company and indeed, had not tried a gel eyeliner before this one by Pacifica. Suffice to say, it did not live up to my expectations. It applies patchily, and has very thin opacity that is difficult to build up due to the formula, which smears and wipes away any layers you might have been ablento lie down. It is difficult to work with. As previously mentioned, the packaging *is* cute. The colour is to die for, a beautiful true navy blue. But oh, if only it applied well!
