I have the Pure Colour Gelee Powder eye shadow in Cyber Teal as I had been scouring the internet for a dupe of a rather mesmerising mermaid eye shadow (shade 15) by Claudio Riaz which I couldn’t seem to be able to get my hands on for love or money outside the US.
This Cyber Teal doesn’t have the dark undertones of the Claudio Riaz that I was after, and is also a lot lighter (think duckshell blue, but a notch more sea foam, and shimmered) but, having finished a whole pan and now onto my next palette of the same colour, I like the Cyber Teal for what it is.
I had bought the Cyber Teal solely from the online swatches on various blogs, where the colour varied from light charcoal grey to the teal sheen that I had wanted. I am not one for gimmicks like “gelee powder” or wet/dry applications (my life is infinitely easier with dry application only), so had hoped that the colour would be true to pan.
I suspect it doesn’t matter whether you apply this wet or dry so long as there is a good eye primer: I have always used a firm paddle brush to pat as much powder as would stay on (which does make it more prone to creasing after a couple of hours), and have always been able to achieve the pan colour. However, the teal does die down to something more grey after most of a day’s wear and I also wear this with Bobbi Brown’s Gunmetal on the outer crease, which probably means the two colours just fuse together over time.
I think this product might now be discontinued by Estée Lauder, although you can still find it from online discount stockists (at not very discounted prices). I still have my back-up supply as I would certainly miss not having this colour from my eye shadow collection.

I recently purchased 2 of the new Pure Color Gelee eyeshadow in Cyber Ruby (a gorgeous burgundy with brown tones) and Arctic Sky (an unbelievably pretty light blue with pink reflects in it). I’d missed out on all the hybrid shadow formulas recently like from MAC Extra Dimension and Sephora’s Prisma colors, so I wanted to give the formula a try. And i was positively blown away when my makeup artist tried Cyber Ruby all over my lid with Arctic Sky in the crease – I would *never* have paired those together and it works beautifully. My eyes have never looked greener!
Now the downside – because this formula is different than others and not as powdery, I suspect there’s more pigment and less filler product to catch oil. THIS MEANS IF YOUR LIDS ARE OILY, THESE COLORS ARE GOING TO CHANGE!!! The Arctic Sky, while one of the prettiest colors I”ve ever seen, will be going back because over the course of a day (with UD primer) it changes into a murky purplish color. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still lovely, but the sparkle from when you first apply it is dulled and it’s not the color I originally purchased. These shadows aren’t cheap, either, so I can’t afford to keep something I won’t use.
I’m still trying the Cyber Ruby. It darkens over a day into a prettier burgundy color, which is what I was going for in the first place. But I’ve yet to decide if it’s just one of those purple-red colors that irritates my eyes. But if you have green eyes or probably blue, this color is the ONE for you, ladies!!!
