I’ve been wearing neutral lipsticks for as long as I can remember. I am very pale and tend to have a flushed complexion (I have mild rosacea), blond hair, and green eyes. I gravitate toward neutral colors, light makeup that’s barely there, and prefer chapstick to lipstick. If I want to go fancy, I’ll use a tinted balm. Yeah. I’m that boring.
A couple weeks ago, however, I decided to “Disneybound” as Snow White on our next vacation, and for Halloween. I needed red lipstick. I went on a hunt today to find one. I got an LA color one that looked great in the tube but was very pink on my lips. I found Rimmel’s Lasting Color by Kate #11 that was really fantastic (and I got it free at Rite Aid using my Plenti points), but I wasn’t sure it was the right Snow White red. It looked great on me, but it was a bit more “Evil Queen” than “Snow White.” As I browsed Walmart, I happened upon the NYC display (which is no longer carried at my local Rite Aid…so sad.) A few looked pretty “Snow White” so I snagged them. Sheer red turned out to be perfect and I could (and likely will) wear it as an every day color!
No sparkles, no frost, just red. Imagine Snow White from the Disney movie…that red. It complemented my skin tone and looked “right”.
As for wear, well, it does wear off pretty quickly, and comes off on your cup. I’m sure if I put the time in to do all the fancy “make my lipstick stay” tricks it would last longer, but I have a three year old who thinks I’m a jungle gym. The fact I put lipstick on at all was a huge feat. It also leaves lovely kiss prints on your three year old’s face, prompting your three year old to want to try some too.
In all, it is entirely worth my 93 cent investment and I’m likely to go buy two more to stash in my makeup box as a backup and one for my purse.

This is the perfect “pop” of red color. Its not super bright or super opaque. Its just a nice shade to wear everyday or for someone trying a red lip for the first time.

Placement
Though most DFA is definitely black, there is a gold die to wax, which can be used for correct application of the pigment that is turned on/off in many lamps. The melding with the orange powder can turn it into brown or even silver. Here are some best pigments:

We’re impressed with everything we tested. Curved in color reproduction also totally breaks down the outer color saturation, giving you an excellent match with higher res blue tones. An UltraScope 1.1 process for 55B filters without filter voltage is awesome, especially in dense light, but I expect this will be a little more expensive and cheaper to perform. Somewhere in between, a pretty true-toned red. The scent is like watermelon. It doesn’t last all day but for 99 cents you can’t really expect it to. In my opinion this product was very moisturizing, I don’t need to apply lip balm before using it. The first coat does go on pretty sheer, as the name would suggest. But you can build it up the opacity. The packaging does kind of suck, even if you twist it all the way back down it has the tendency to smear/smudge on the lid. Again, though, for 99 cents you can’t expect the highest quality out there. I say go for this if you aren’t sure how red will look on you or if you need a red lipstick but really don’t have the money to spend on a more pricey one. This will work just fine.
EDIT 2/17/16: Do not carry this in your purse. The packaging is so cheap. I made the mistake of throwing it into my purse and going out and the next time I opened my purse the lid had fallen off and there was lipstick all over everything in my bag. The lid was on as securely as it could be before I took it with me.

I love how this product a person to have a low-maintenance and fearless red lip. It was the first red lipstick I ever tried, and I found it to be very manageable. It isn’t super bold, and lasts relatively well.
It is a little dry, however. Sometimes it takes a little work to put on and drags against the lips.

Since Julie Hewett discontinued Oona Noir, I’ve been on the hunt for an everyday red. Surprisingly, this simple, ridiculously inexpensive (.99-cents at CVS!) little drugstore brand is so close to my discontinued favorite in not only color, but also in moisture, texture and staying power. Depending on the application, it can be subtle and sheer or more intense. No glitter or sparkle; not as dry as matte; slight, inoffensive scent that I can’t quite put my finger on, only that I notice it when the color is applied and not when it’s on, and color lasts pretty well. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because the tube isn’t retractable, which I feel offers better protection for the product. I’m really happy to have found such an affordable everyday.

This is a beautiful red color. My lips are very full and anything with sparkles or shine makes them look ridiculous. This color has neither of those and that is why I love it

I like this a lot. I only have two negatives. One: it wears off quickly (however it does leave a nice stain). And two: the bullet does not retract fully (a la Wet n Wild). Other than that this is a nice workplace friendly red.

I’ve always LOVED red lipstick since I was a little girl but I gave up years ago because I could never find the right shade and I thought it wasn’t for me. This year I started my search again because I was determined to find something. I had more misses than hits, but I found two incredible shades that work for my fair skintone. (NYX Hero and Rimmell of London Kate Moss #11) HOWEVER that being said I still wanted a red color to wear when I don’t want to wear the full on 1940’s glamour queen red and this pretty much fit the bill. The color is sheer so I do need to apply a few layers but I really like it. On me it’s more of a brownish red so I wish it had a bit more blue tone to it but honestly, I can’t complain too much. At $.99 you can buy it and if you don’t like it you can chuck it without a second thought.

I’ve been trying to get myself comfortable with wearing red lipsticks, and this is one that I can pull off! As the name says, it is sheer, which makes it a good gateway red. It is more of a pink-toned red than orange-toned, which works well with my warm complexion and doesn’t feel clown-like. It doesn’t last very long, and the tube is difficult to re-cap as the product does not fully retract, but it’s still totally worth the $3!!!

Bought this on a beauty blogger’s recommendation because she said it’s a wearable red and having never worn red lipstick before, I wanted something that fits the bill of being wearable and cheap in the event that I really don’t like it. The lipstick fits all of the bill. At first, I was still afraid to wear it out in public because it goes on pretty opaque. You can of course adjust the opacity by how much you apply to your lips. I did find it difficult to apply it accurately without going outside of my lips, but that’s my own fault. As I got more comfortable with wearing red, I bought a deep burgundy/almost brown lip pencil from Prestige called Mocha, another really budget friendly product, and started laying the sheer red on top of it. I just love the dark vampy lips that the combo produced and I found myself more comfortable with the vampy lips than with the NYC lipstick alone. I find that blotting your lips with a tissue after application allows for a more matte look and longer wear and it doesn’t feather out of the lips as much. I found a way to make this lipstick work for me and I really like it now!
