This is gonna be a long review..
Covergirl, why did you stop making this? Tsk tsk..
Bought this color on a whim sometime in 2012, the very last one in the display, and fell in love! I’m the type of person who gravitates towards darker lipstick shades and for a while this almost replaced wet n wild “dark wine” (which I’ve already reviewed) as my default lip color. I’ve used almost all of my tube of embrace but now I save it for special occasions since has been DC for a while now (what were they thinking?)
Anyway, this is one of the better lipstick formulas from CG, and the d/s in my opinion since its got a great balance of pigmentation and moisture, so it does not drag during application nor is it overly greasy or sheer and doesn’t emphasize lines. The finish feels like a semi-matte to me once it sets on the lips although embrace does have blue pearl it isn’t noticeably shimmery, it just gives the shade more depth and personality with the added bonus of whiter looking teeth. I like how it isn’t overly shiny but it has enough sheen to really give the color some dimension and make it more wearable for daytime. It can be worn as a light and natural looking pink stain if applied lightly to a deep berry/purple shade with a couple swipes and the varying shades of fuchsia in between. It isn’t as purple as it appears in the tube which I would have been upset about had the color not ended up being so flattering. It seems to do pretty well without lipliner if blotted lightly with minimal feathering or smudging, and the color wears down evenly to a nice pink stain which I like. But of course lipliner helps the lasting power exponentially, although I get a good 3 hours of true-to-color wear drinking water or coffee (without a straw) and smoking but the stain it leaves lasts well into the next day if you don’t try to remove it.
These lipsticks have a very faint scent that is hard to describe and sort of reminds me of marshmallows but I don’t notice it while wearing it and it hasn’t got much of a flavor either. Maybe a very slight sweet taste when freshly applied. Most shouldn’t find an issue with the taste or scent unless one is particularly sensitive to that. As long as it doesn’t have that nasty crayon/plastic taste like some cheap lipsticks do then I don’t mind, personally.
I can’t remember the price except that it was a tad steep for a CG lipstick but honestly I think it’s worth it for the unique color and it doesn’t dry my lips or otherwise irritate them. It actually seems to make them feel a little smoother somehow.
Also, I feel the need to mention that this lipstick has garnered more complements from others BY FAR than any other color I wear, especially from men, who we are always told supposedly “hate” makeup.. not that one should obsess over the male gaze but we all like to feel desirable! This color looks absolutely beautiful on cooler toned folks with dark hair, like myself. So ladies and gents take note! This shade is definitely an attention grabber but in the best way possible. Like a very beautiful and fun loving woman with loads of confidence who is eye catching and turns heads, yet never looks cheap and is always humble and kind. The type of woman you just want to.. Embrace!
If you love this shade but are about to run out, let me tell you a little secret. No, I’m not gonna tell you to drop 17 bucks on MAC rebel either, unless you really want to and can afford it. But wet n wild mega last in sugar plum fairy is a well known dupe for rebel, which CG embrace has also been compared to. If you apply wnw SPF and then layer a swipe of wet n wild silk finish fuschia with blue pearl, it is pretty much identical to CG embrace! The best part is, the 2 wnw lippies you need for this are about 3 bucks altogether, and the fuschia w/blue pearl adds the right amount of sheen and blue shimmer although you don’t get the same feel from the CG formula, but it will do. I hope this helps someone else out there who has considered making a sacrifice to the drugstore lipstick deity to find this color again. Happy face painting!

Please allow me to join the legions of admirers of this shade. I have been really happy with several other Lip Perfection lipsticks that I have bought, so when I spotted this in a discount bin at a local store, I quickly added it to my basket.
A few years ago a Clinique makeup SA used a plummy, dark Clinique color on my mouth. I was very pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it, but life intervened and I lost track of the color. But this is a similar choice and perfect for Fall, I think.
I love the generous sizes of the Cover Girl Lip Perfection bullet, and the minimalist, chic styling of the case. It’s a sturdy case that doesn’t accidentally slide open in purse or pocket. I also really like the shade showing in the base of the case, since (if like me, you buy multiple Lip Perfection shades) it is the quickest, easiest way to tell them apart. The formula feels great on my lips, applies very smoothly. This shade in particular can act like a stain, as other reviewers have mentioned. I happen to like that in the product.
It appears to me (as I write this, in October of 2015) as if this shade is no longer in Cover Girl’s production line. That’s a shame, because for many of us, it appears it is quite a big hit.

Absolutely love the color. Depending on how much you apply you can achieve quite a few different shades of this purple-y color. I like to switch up my styles.. one day girly, the next day punk, and this lipstick is perfect for that. Mostly I like to put 2 dark coats on my lips, i absolutely love the deepness of the purple.

Absolutely gorgeous, long wearing lipstick. I am very fair with dark blonde hair and I think this looks sensational. Admittedly it is a strong color but it is easily toned down with a little blotting or lip gloss. I am hooked on Lip Perfection lipsticks because when I put my lipstick on in the morning, I want the color to last and these deliver. I do reapply throughout the day but mostly to add a little moisture and intensity. The basic color usually lasts for hours. Great price, great packaging – not flashy, not too boring, not embarrassing to pull out of my purse, either. I highly recommend. There are so many shades to choose from, too.

This is an absolutely beautiful purple-y red lipstick. It’s quite versatile in the sense that it can be applied lightly for a pretty berry stain, or worn full-force for an electric plum look! I really enjoy wearing it out because it’s very long-wearing. Even after a night of eating and drinking, it stayed put for me, which is awesome considering I hate having to re-apply all night. The consistency is smooth and glides on nicely, and the product doesn’t dry out my lips. All-in-all I love it and would definitely repurchase!

The color in the tube is a very deep, rich blue based plum. However depending on the way you apply it, this lipstick ranges from a sheer vampy fuchsia, to a deep berry and finally close to- but not quite as- dark as the color it appears to be in the tube. That being said, this color can carry you from spring to winter! I have very fair, cool toned skin and this color compliments it nicely at it’s varying shades. I prefer to dab it on with my finger over vaseline prepped lips. The lasting power is fair but this lipstick does leave behind a pretty stain. I don’t mind it..I actually love it, but I know some of you will not like that. I have even used it as a cream blush by dabbing just a bit on the apples of my cheeks and blending out! I love the versatility of the color- I’m able to use it for sweeter girl next door looks to extremely vampy and more high fashion looks.

This is the first, and so far only, Lip Perfection lipstick I’ve tried, and I have to start out by saying that the formula and staying power are fantastic. I generally pass over CG in the store because I associate it with the powdery blue eyeshadow my mom wore while I was growing up, and so I see it as a sort of dated brand. But on the hunt for a new lipstick a while ago, I came across Embrace, and I thought it looked like a quirky, orchid purple type of shade so I bought it because I had nothing else like it in my arsenal. Unfortunately, it comes out more pink than it looks in the tube. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a super pretty shade of magenta/fuschia and I definitely still wear it, but it isn’t what I expected when I bought it (should have swatched in store, oops!).
I enjoy that the packaging of these has the color of the product as the bottom of the tube (although, in this case, there was a bit of discrepancy between the two, as stated above). The dark purple packaging is nice, too. It’s easy to find in my lipstick bin when I want to wear it — it stands out from all the black tubes that every other lipstick seems to come in. So that’s a plus.
The price on this, I felt, was a bit steep. Approximately $9 for a drugstore lipstick is a little more than I would prefer to spend, especially when I can get quality lipsticks for around $2 from brands like Wet n Wild. I would repurchase from this line again because I really love the formula, but I don’t think I would go nuts and buy a bunch of shades, because of the price.

I love allllll the Lip Perfection lipsticks… but never bought this one because the color looks scary in the tube. Finally tried it & it’s a rly nice bright pink/purple. .. like you ate a grape popsicle .. highly recommend

Wow! I actually thought this color looked weird in the tube, but bought it because I felt like I wanted to see how I look in a weird, glowy bright purple lipstick. What a surprise to see that it looks GOOD! Very good! To me this lipstick goes on as nicely as a higher-end (think Chanel, Dior) lippie. And this color is perfect — a little out of the ordinary, but pretty! Stylish! Wearable! I’m almost afraid to tell you all how nice the Embrace color is, because you might buy them all. I want two more, to put in my sisters’ Christmas stockings!

I love this lipstick its very long lasting 🙂
