So far this seems to be a good dupe for Nailtiques formula 2. I purchased it on clearance at Sally’s and I hope it’s not discontinued! I’ll update my progress in a few months!

I love this product. I have thin, brittle, very breakage-prone nails from years of biting them. Barielle’s Nail Rebuilding Protein keeps my nails from breaking, or peeling. It has given me the ability to grow my nails out longer. I love it, and I always use it as a base coat. I would and will definitely recommend this product to anyone who is considering buying it!

In comparison to other strengthening basecoats I’ve tried, this one ranks below only nailtiques formula 2, which is HG status. It works better than nailtek, and much better than the cheap DS products, like Sally hansen and green tea nail hardener. I got an excellent deal on it at TJ maxx, $6.99 for this product and the manicure extender, which is also amazing.
I deducted a lippy because it doesn’t work well under polish, and it also peels when applied in multiple layers (unlike nailtiques.) however, it definitely improves the condition of thin, peeling nails, and the bottle is quite large. I’d recommend storing it in the cardboard box it comes in to prevent it from thickening up over time due to exposure from UV rays. A great product; I’d repurchase!

So far so good… I was looking for a base coat to repair the damage done to my nails by using Orly Bonder (discoloration, flaking and peeling), and this seems to working. Works acceptably as a base–I’m not noticing excessive manicure chipping, it seems to work about as well as Bonder in that respect. Some polishes don’t seem to want to stick to it initially, making the first color coat a bit difficult to lay down. I’ll have to give it a few months to see if it really helps with the condition of my nails in the long term. Got it cheap at TJ Maxx, I wouldn’t buy it full price.

I love this stuff! So many strengtheners and proteins seem to have formaldehyde in them, which makes my nails peel badly. This has none of that. It doesn’t peel right off my nails and leaves a nice finish on them. While it’s crazy expensive on the Barielle website, I can often find it at discount stores for a far more reasonable price. It makes a fantastic base coat – polish goes on smoothly and resists chipping.

Excellent product for creating strong nails. Do remember to alternate this product with a moisturizing product – too much protein can actually give you brittle nails (and hair too for that matter). Works well with Barielle Hydrating Ridgefiller.

I’ve been using this for about 4 weeks and I am rather impressed. I was fed up with Essie Millionails and gave ths a try because I love their nail creme. My nails are harder than they have EVER been. Now instead of them breaking and/or peeling, I have to CUT them to maintain my desired length. It makes a great basecoat. No need to reapply every day. Just put it on, paint your nails and forget about it.

Nailboarder confession time: I can never tell whether products that claim to make my nails stronger or harder are working. Part of the problem is that I can’t bother with doing an even pseudo-scientific test of one — you know, wearing nothing BUT the product for however many weeks they say it will take to show results. I end up polishing or something else, and then I can’t tell whether it’s the treatment or the new polish or the topcoat or just the fact that I AM wearing polish or the new rubber gloves or the new crystal file or the biotin or the multivitamin or the WHAT is making my nails better. But I bought this for $3.99 at TJMaxx and so I’ve worn it. My nails are nice and strong. Maybe it’s the Barielle. Or not. One note: This makes a bad basecoat. I wore it for a few weeks under all brands of polishes and had my color peel off in big, nail-shaped flakes — entertaining, but not the look I was after. Took me a long while to figure out it was this. Barielle Natural Nail Camouflage, though, makes a GREAT basecoat. I’m saving the Nail Rebuilding Protein for a refresher topcoat.

This isn’t a HG for me, but it is the best nail-strengthening/ topcoat-type product I’ve tried. It does chip/peel around the end of my nails if I’m working a lot with my hands, but it has more staying power than others I’ve tried and goes on like a dream. I hate painting my nails, but I like them to be protected and look “nice”, and this does just that. Also, I can often find Barielle products at Marshall’s, which my bank account appreciates.

So, you need a treatment for thin peeling nails that really works and you don’t have to apply a coat of every freeking day? So, you need a basecoat that dries hard, fills ridges and polish really sticks to? So, you need a clear polish that has treatment properties, protects your nails, and won’t peel off?
Then you need this! Barielle Nail Rebuilding Protein is a wonderful product. Binds all layers of my nails together if there are any peelies, makes my nails feel hard, but not dry and brittle. Does a nice job of filling ridges so I don’t need another basecoat, and polish applies over it really well. But even if you want to use it alone, it leaves a hard shiny protective clear finish. I’ll repurchase forever.
