I purchased this over the summer because I was drawn to the word “matte”. I had tried to Rimmel Stay Matte powder before and it did not keep me matte. I was not ready to give up the search for a matte powder. I got this at my local Target for about $5.99 plus tax. I have it in the shade: 510 Classic Ivory. It isn’t very pigmented, so it works for my super pale skin. It has been a while since I’ve used any Covergirl powders, but I remember that smell that they used to have. This powder doesn’t have that same kind of smell, thankfully. This powder is the same as the oil control/sensitive skin powder that Covergirl has been selling, just repackaged. It claims to have “oil absorbers to help oily skin looking fresh and shine free. This oil-free formula wont clog pores, making it a perfect texture for sensitive skin” (from the Covergirl website). Unfortunately I can’t be too sure of the veracity of the claims to keep you looking fresh and shine free as my 30’s skin decided – right after purchase – to change from being super oily to dry. So nature has ended my search for a mattifying powder. But I can say that it has not clogged my pores. I have little hairs on my face, so this powder does leave a bad texture on my skin if I use to puff that came with the product. The way I use it: I moisturize my face and let that absorb first. I apply my concealer and pat it in with my finger or my real techniques sponge. Then I use my flat-top e.l.f. face brush (tap off the excess) and gently press it onto the skin to set my concealer. I know a lot of people complain about the packaging falling apart. I’ve had this for several months and it has banged around in my cosmetics case and purse. It hasn’t fallen apart yet, but it is a little tough to open the compact sometimes. It isn’t my favorite powder, but it isn’t the worse I’ve tried either. I wouldn’t repurchase it after I’ve used it up, I prefer the NYC Smooth Skin Loose Powder over other drugstore powders.
