I’ve been a huge fan of the entire Kose Sekkisei line for a long time, and have used the lotion (toner) and the emulsion (light moisturizer) for years. The only products that I have not used from this line are the oil cleanser, and the powder wash. For oil cleanser I already have my favorite (Kose Softymo Whitening or the Speedy cleansing oil) that are cheaper, and I’m not a fan of powder wash in general due to the fact that I prefer to wash my face in the shower, so it’s not practical to try to get powder out of a bottle in the shower and trying to not get stray droplets in…
In any case, I bought this cream while I was in japan, and actually until I read the review here just now (and then checked the sasa website for item description), I had no clue this was supposed to be for whitening. Oops!
I have oily Asian skin and I actually use this as a night cream after the emulsion – it works almost like a sleep-in moisture pack like the laneige water pack. The consistency are very similar to the Laneige Water Pack – it’s actually a gel instead of a cream despite the name. I use it at night as I find that since it’s a bit thicker than the emulsion, it doesn’t sink in as well – thus why it works so well as a sleep water pack. I use it exclusively during the winter time (I just dug out my half pot for this winter!), and honestly I really love this product. Smells really great, fantastic consistency, really hydrate, and just in general awesome.
But in terms of whitening and spot brightening, I guess I never really paid attention since I had no clue that’s what it’s supposed to do. XD I prefer using it as a night time moisturizer during the particularly dry months.
In Japan (and asia in general), being oily means your skin is overproducing oil due to dehydration – so there’s never a concept of stripping your skin of oil. Instead, there’s a huge push for MORE hydration – but it’s the non-oily type of hydration. In the US I find it ridiculously difficult to find moisturizers that works well for my skin – for some reason even moisturizers that are oil free are still too greasy for me. If it’s aimed for oily skin, usually western moisturizers ends up not moisturizing enough or a little stripping. If it’s aimed for dry skin, even when it’s oil free, it clogs my pores and I break out. So when it comes to moisturizers, I go Japanese exclusively because I’m seriously tired of trying one moisturizer after another in US and getting crap results.
What I particularly love about the Sekkisei gel cream is that it works well for the winter and night use but is oil free, my face never feels heavy, I never broke out, and for a heavy-ish moisturizer my face never feel super greasy. it’s definitely going to be heavier than using just the emulsion, but this is nothing compared to a lot of western brand moisturizers that are solid colored (like Estee Lauder or Lancôme creams). the light gel like consistency for this is awesome.
It is definitely pricy though, so I can completely understand when people get irritated that this may not do the whitening/brightening. If you already have a good heavier moisturizer to use during nights/winter that feels great on you, then definitely go for those. But if you’ve been struggling for ages to find a moisturizer that moisturizes and maintains moisture without feeling heavy/cakey/greasy and doesn’t break your out – give this a try. The jar is really good size (whoopin 40g of product for $50 on sasa.com) and one pot lasts quite a long time since you don’t need to use a ton of product and only use at night. In terms of price, this is way cheaper compared to any of the SK-II creams!
I’m going to hold off on buying a backup/repurchase myself after I use up my current pot because I need to finish my other night moisturizers, but after those are gone I’m probably going to repurchase this again. Thankfully due to living in CA, I don’t need heavier moisturizer as often so I think I can live without this for a while lol.

I buy this night cream because i see many good reviews of it. The reason i buy it, because i have some freckles on my face and nose, i hope that it can be decresed.
Kose also famous of this sekkisei line.
At beginning of using it, i started to love it.
Pros :
– My skin become brighter and glowing after all
– My freckles look more fader day by day
– Not sticky and oily.
– My skin look more fresher and more youthful
– No breakout
Cons :
– too expensive just for a night cream
– it is not moisture when you use it at night, i think it suits women in the 20’s only.
– no anti-wrinkle effect

I’m always on the hunt for the perfect moisturizer for my oily but slightly dehydrated, acne-prone and 34yr old face. See my dillema’s? When I saw and tested this cream at the airport I decided to give it a go.
Pro’s:
Very light cream, absorbed quickly, light scent that dissipated quickly
Did not break me out at all
Hydrated my skin enough except in the harshest winter conditions
Cons:
The price. See, even though I really liked this cream, it’s not special enough to justify the price. There are plenty of cheaper moisturizers that do the same.
And a very small con: the pot is very fingerprint-prone and starts to look dirty within a week.
If you have some money to splurge at the tax free, I say go for it. It’s cheaper than some of the other high end brands (Lancome, Clinique etc) and it’s a great product. But don’t go out of your way to buy it.

I tried so many skincare products from L’oreal, Biotherm, Clinique, Guerlain…. and this is the product that best fit on my skin. Truly love it.

This is a good moisturizer, doesn’t break me out. In fact this whole kose line is very good for asian skin. Keeps my skin fresh and break out free. Price was good, got this for 50% off since BBW was discontinuing this from their stores.

i love this! this is my hg all in one. the only skincare product i am using, no step 1,2,3… just this.
i have slightly oily skin, when i first tried it i felt it was too rich for me…. but then i have stopped using all skincare products due to laziness….
what i do is i just wash my face and apply this, every day, day and night. it gives translucent moisturised dewy skin. this really plumps up your skin, foundations always go on better after this. (powder/liquid)
i think this is good if you dont pile your face with other products, would be too rich then. go easy on it though.
but if you just want to use ONE product daily, this is it. of course, u need a sunblock if you’re going out, but i stay home all day.
its not too expensive-there are many other more expensive shit out there… and packaging wise, its just plastic. nothing fancy, but it works.

I love this product. The texture is sticky and rich for my oily skin but I stick to it and it really whiten and brighten my skin tone by a few shades (I am very tanned)! I will definitely purchase this again.

This is one of those products that you REALLY want to love because of the hype and claim. So you fool yourself into believing that its working. And you write some absurd review for it, even though deep down you know the truth. Well, I will face the truth that this just doesn’t deliver!! I have some post-acne scars and sun-spots I have tried to rid of. I have applied this nightly in hopes of a brighter, more even-toned complexion. Hello, its Kose sekkisei, probably the most popular whitening range in Asia ever!! But the cream…Even though it has a very watery consistency, it goes on my face quite greasy. My oily face cannot handle it. Maybe drier skin types. Plus, no whitening effect whatsoever!! Ive used it for 2 months, at least. Well, it makes a good neck cream….

this is excellent for moisturising but a tad too heavy for my skin.
i would use this as a night cream as i prefer to use something light in the day.it definitely helps in dehydrated skin, providing excellent moisture.but too bad, kose products are mostly loaded with alcohol so i have stop using this.
importedBustard8
too heavy for my combi skin.
