This perfume has very low reviews, and for good reason.
It’s that time of the year again. The time of giving and getting presents. I always feel guilty when I dislike things that are given to me as gifts. I appreciate all gifts, but sometimes I just can’t appreciate whatever the product itself has to offer.
Backtrack a week ago to a family gathering where we did “Chinese Christmas.” The concept: everyone brings a gift (men and women’s gifts are separated), then everyone draws a random gift to take home. The gifts were supposed to be in the $20 range.
I gifted a Marshmallow Fireside candle and a Wrapped in Sugar body cream. I got a bottle of LA Glow by J. Lo and a bath bomb (Lush knockoff). I was hopeful. Glow by J. Lo smells AMAZING. I looked up the notes of this fragrance before testing it out and they piqued my interest. The berry and the cream were the things that I found appealing but after spraying this on I was disappointed.
Top notes are cherry, plum & blackberry. Middle-notes are jasmine, peony & magnolia. Base notes are musk, amber and tropical cream.
I’m not a musk person at all. The inclusion of musk in any fragrance takes my excitement down a notch. I’m not a big fan of amber either and most florals just don’t do it for me. I don’t notice any berry notes at all but can definitely smell the plum. The addition of “tropical cream” is the only reason I’m considering keeping this and wearing it to work. Staying power is about 4 hours before I can’t smell it on the skin or on clothing any longer.
Lastly, the packaging. The bottle is pretty and I have nothing against it. The nozzle sucks though. Instead of spraying out in a mist, it comes out in a strong stream. So if you spray it on your wrist, your wrist is going to basically get soaked.
Wouldn’t repurchase or recommend.

I’ve been curious to try some of the other fragrances in the Glow line for a while so I got a bottle of this at Marshall’s for $20 but I’m wondering if it’s a knock-off because it didn’t come with one of the cute signature charmed bracelets. Anyway, the scent is very generic and faint to me. Something along the lines of those plummy, musky, cupcake scents. Basically a faint fusion of something from Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber, Beyonce and Britney Spears all rolled into one. Back for a refund.

I bought the 30 ml bottle of this at Shopper’s Drug Mart for $19.99. I used to use the original Glow back when I was about 15 years old and I really liked it. I stopped using that once I got out of high school and now use Glow After Dark. Considering I liked both of those Glow perfumes, I thought I would give this a try. This perfume has a really sweet, fruity/flowery smell. I’m not in love with it and wouldn’t consider it my ultimate favorite, but it’s nice. It definitely smells a lot different than the original Glow and the Glow After Dark. The original glow has a more clean, soapy smell and the Glow After Dark has a mysterious, sexy scent to it. This perfume is more innocent and suitable for daytime wear. It would even be appropriate to wear to work, however I don’t really think it’s a great scent to wear out at night. I’m not saying it’s horrible or anything, it just seems too gentle and doesn’t really have a sexy or mysterious vibe to it. The bottle is purple and comes with a wearable cocktail ring. I won’t ever be wearing this ring because it looks super tacky and my sisters joke around and say that it looks like a giant, tacky gumball/weird object from outer space. I’m not sure what the staying power of this is like since I just put it on my wrist. I will edit this post later and comment on that.
EDIT: I actually don’t like this perfume at all. I love sweet smells, but there’s something about this perfume that just smells a little off to me. I’m not sure if the strong smell of plums or if it’s just a synthetic sweet smell going on. Whatever the case is, I’m not a fan. I’m not giving this perfume 1 lippie because while I don’t like this, if someone were wearing it, it’s not like it would make me want to gag. It’s tolerable, just not something that I can see myself wearing.

LA Glow is rich with plum notes on first application, so if you don’t like plum you can skip this fragrance. After a few minutes the blackberry and cherry develops, and mingles with the plum; however the plum is still the key note. I love perfumes which contain cherry so I was a bit disappointed to find that the cherry is the weakest note on me.If you liked the rich plum notes in Midnight Fantasy, then you should enjoy this.
What really separates this edition from the earlier ones in the Glow line is that the floral notes are more fully developed and aren’t ‘powdery’ or plastic. On me the jasmine is definitely the strongest note, followed by the peony. I couldn’t separate the magnolia though. In addition to the florals there is also some lingering plum, as well as a hint of the coconut milk seeping up from the base.
As the florals burn down the coconut milk accord fully develops and becomes richer, sweeter and creamier thanks to the amber. I can detect the lightest hint of musk, but it’s quickly lost underneath the creaminess.
Scent notes: Cherry, plum, blackberry, jasmine, peony, magnolia, musk, amber and tropical cream.
As this is an EDT I didn’t expect miracles and I was right not to: I can still detect creamy vanilla three to four hours after first applying it, but it’s only a hint and is very close to the skin – It goes close to the skin as a whole in little over two hours. Weirdly for a fruity/floral, I find that LA Glow appeals to me much more in colder weather – the fruit notes in the fragrance are rich and dark, which paired with the creamy base makes for the perfect autumn/winter fragrance. I find LA Glow sickly in warmer weather.
I do still like the original Glow, but the increasing number of flankers have become too similar to each other and the line now bores me in all honesty, so whilst I class this as ‘nice’, I don’t think it it is something that you need to own.
