I keep buying the Rimmel hazel eyebrow pencil with the brush on the cap. It has a good consistency for application. I powder my eyebrows to both soften the color and set the pencil for a long day.
sadPlover1
This used to be my HG brow pencil for many years, but I think a lot of newer, nicer products have come onto the market that outshine this old drug store standby. Rimmel’s brow pencil is affordable, but I feel like I was always going through the pencils much faster than the twist-up variety I prefer now. They don’t have a wide selection of colors, but I normally wore Hazel with just about every hair color I had except very dark browns and it never looked weird. It is pretty long-lasting for the creaminess of the product, but again, there are now a lot of superior options at the drug store price point. I have moved on from this former favorite, and I won’t repurchase since Rimmel is not cruelty free.

I bought this based on the reviews, and I’m so glad I did!! It’s so simple to use and I’m so impressed with the way my brows look. Awesome product!

This eyebrow pencil is amazing. My brows are sparse in certain areas, and I could never find pencils that were natural enough to not look fake, and if I did, they were way too warm toned and made my brows look ginger. I use the shade Dark Brown, and it matches my brows so well. It isn’t too warm, but it isn’t so cool toned that it’s grey. It’s Rimmel, so it’s inexpensive which is a bonus. The only thing that I don’t like about this product is the brow brush that comes on the cap. It isn’t a classic spoolie, and the bristles are quite scratchy and rough, but I usually just use another one anyways. Overall, 100% recommend, favourite eyebrow pencil I’ve ever used.

shade : 001 dark brown. i love this pencil! though its the first one ive ever owned, ive used friends’ and they never stayed on all day.. this one does though! only problem is with the brush on the top of it, it’s too rough and wipes away the pencil/powder on your eyebrows! i prefer to use a spoolie or an eyebrow comb to use on my eyebrows, with pencil, powder, or gel:)
sugaryHyena1
First of all this product only comes in 2-3 shades, i have mine in 002 Hazel, which is the lightest. The color is way too red for me. You have to press a lot before any pigment shows up, so it just kinda hurts a little. I feel like you can see where the product is and where your hair is. It’s like it colors the skin instead of the hairs. It comes with a little brush on the lid, but i don’t use it, because it’s really uncomfortable to use. I prefer spoolies.

I love this product! I had been using my Mac eyeshadow as an eyebrow filler when I realised I was looking a little too glittery in the brow department. I’d never really got on with eyebrow pencils before (I ended up looking too harsh) so with the help of the Boots sales assistant (who was really good), I opted for the cheapest they had just to see how I went.
I realised the secret is tiny feather-like strokes and lots of them. Once I’d mastered this, I smoothed the lines over with the attached brush. This, IMHO, creates a great natural looking brow. I set it with Rimmel’s Brow Gel in clear – another great find!
The only downside is that if not blended it can look a little red. But will definitely purchase again, another super product from Rimmel!
relievedShads2
Awful! The Natural Eyebrow Pencil is so hard that it won’t leave a mark on my skin. If I try to use it before I put on foundation, any marks just smudge afterwards. Expensive, too. Shan’t buy again!

When I discovered this in Japan, I thought at first that there might have been an error in the printing of the price tag because this product was ridiculously cheap (~US$3.00), but it really was just a great find! I use shade 1 (Black). It’s easy to create natural-looking eyebrows with this pencil, especially when finely sharpened. It has also lasted me quite a while despite its small size and everyday use.
Note: Not to be confused with the Shiseido Natural Eyebrow Pencil, which comes with a brush on the other end, and which I think some of the reviews here might be for.

These babies are good! Not sure if they’re the only good ones out there, as I’ve not tried all the brands. But this is a solid, trustworthy eyebrow pencil.
sincereThrush9
I have silver hair that requires a cool coloured pencil for my brows. This pencil in Natural Black is more grey than it is black and is perfect for me. So many others have an orange tint to them (way too warm for my colouring) which makes my eyebrows look like I’ve borrowed them from Mrs. Potatohead. Happy with this and certainly will buy again.

I received this as a gift from a friend in Japan, and it took me almost six months to try it.
Normally I HATE putting anything in my eyebrows. I have big foofy eyebrows as it is, and the few times I’ve tried eyebrow products I’ve either hated how I looked or ended up with an adverse reaction (looking at you, Dipbrow). But after getting nagged by a coworker to “come on, just try doing something with your eyebrows,” I gave in and tried it on.
There’s a little bit of a learning curve here- it’s finicky and the pencil is very hard- not creamy at all. But once you get the hang of it, it leaves you with very natural-looking, yet polished eyebrows. No giant face caterpillars here, as long as you “color inside the lines” of your actual eyebrows. Highly recommended for people who don’t like or want the overdone, painted-on looking eyebrows that are all over Instagram nowadays.
wrathfulPorpoise7
My HG eyebrow pencil, I have black/brown eyebrows and dark hair. My eyebrow hairs are thick, long, but lots of gaps in between. I don’t want super dark harsh eyebrows and everything I find is either too red, too dark, or too light until I found this. I use shade Deep Brown. This perfect for filling in empty spots. If you are going for that Instagram eyebrow look, I don’t recommend this pencil because you wont get a super defined clean look. The mini brush at the end is to BLEND the product so it’s softer looking and distributed. The pencil is hard and leaves sort of powdery finish. I use this everyday and it’s lasted me about a year per pencil which is worth the high price tag. I don’t know where I would be, or my eyebrows, without this!
sadBobolink7
I’ve been repurchasing this over and over again but I sort of have a love/hate relationship with this one. I get the pencil in dark brown 02 and it lasts me about 6 months. This eyebrow pencil looks very natural and fills in sparse spots great. In the summer it melts off really easily though and one thing that I absolutely hate about it is the sharpening. It doesn’t sharpen easily and I need it sharpened to achieve a cleaner outline of the brows.. this sharpening results in the pencil breaking and I waste product for nothing. Other then the above, I love this pencil for the natural look it gives sparse brows.
obsessedSeahorse9
I bought this in 07 dark chocolate while browsing at ulta because of the price and plus I’ve had some luck with essence stuff in the past. Also it can be sharpened, which is something I prefer in an eyebrow pencil for precision.
The color is right on, it matches my brows perfectly and at first I really liked it other than the cheap little brush on the cap. I just used my own spoolie brush. It went on smooth and was easy to blend, so I thought I had found something great for cheap…that is, until I wore it on a slightly hot day.
I didn’t sweat today but it was humid and my skin was oily. My sunglasses smeared this product above my eyebrow so badly that I was embarrassed when I looked in the mirror. Total fail, unfortunately.
unhappyFerret9
I bought this pencil last year in the shade brown without really knowing how to use it, so it ended on the bottom of my beauty case. Recently I found it again and tried to use it.
So, this comes in a simple packaging with a tiny brow brush and I still have to figure out what they’re meant to be. Probably, you know, brushing brows, but mine don’t stray so I guess it’ll stay there for decoration.
The pencil itself is nothing to rave about, but at the same time it delivers. I stopped using it after just trying it once because I didn’t realize how brows filling works, now I just do some little tiny strikes and luckily the colour fits me pretty well – maybe a little too light, like on the red-copper shade (?) against my dark brown, but nothing noticeable unless I’m under a neon light.
It lasts quite long, I experienced about 6 hours with no troubles or melting. Probably it just gently faded away even if I noticed some traces on the evening cotton pad with micellar water.
But for the price, what can you ask for? Well, probably if you need to re-draw completely your brows you might need to invest in something super reliable and more expensive, but for some random filling when I feel like doing it, it goes ok. I paid 2-3 euros for it. Good!
excitedPoultry3
I usually fill in my brows with eyeshadow, but like to have a pencil for when I’m in a hurry. I figured I’d try out this one, in Brown, since it was very inexpensive. Unfortunately, just as with many other brow colors I’ve tried in the past, this one is way too red for me. On top of that, it doesn’t apply very evenly, almost looking a little chunky on areas where I don’t have any hair. The little brush on the cap is absolutely useless, as it gets dirty quite easily and doesn’t even brush out the brows well. I threw out this pencil after I bought a NYX brow pencil, which so far has been working well for me.
holisticCardinal3
I have this in the lightest brown color for light brown/dark blonde hair.
It’s like any cheap pencil; feather light strokes or you end up looking nuts.
I got the hang of it on day three and now it’s dead simple and I like the results.
It has good staying power, the little brush is good, and it washes off easily
Has not upset the skin on my brows so must be fine ingredients-wise.
This brand is pretty good for cheap staples that you can keep in a travel kit or lose and not be choked about. I prefer old fashioned brow pencils like this because they are simple, not messy to use, don’t break or cake or carry bacteria (like many eyebrow kits) and I just follow with the clear mascara gel (same brand) and I”m good to go.
I also like using clear brow mascara because it’s good to knick flyaways in the hairline, too. Can’t do that with a brow kit and wax, now can ya!

I have the darkest shade which is really close to black and this is the problem!my hair are the darkest brown and my brows almost black, but this pencil make them even darker so I have to be really careful to draw them very lightly.i was searching for another shade but the lighter is too light for me.good value for price but not if you are really brunette
cautiousBobolink5
I love it , it gives my brows a natural look but still makes them look thick
mereDotterel5
At first I did not like it , because I did not find the right way to use it . Because it contains wax is hard but the trick to use it is this : apply it before you put powder on your face! It gives a natural look and the colour is exactly that I needed (I use No.2 hazel). Is hard to find a colour like this. I love it although I prefer eyeshadows to fill my eyebrows. Those who want mostly thick eyebrows and a natural look, will love it !
adoringEagle3
I too have purchased this pencil in No 2 Hazel as I have red hair and feel that this kind of shade suits me well. For me the colour is just what I was looking. In fact I love it.
But, there is one down side and that is the hardness of the pencil. My previous little el cheapo one that I was looking to replace only needed the lightest of touches to do what I needed. This MF pencil requires more work to get the same effect.
Having said all that I will re-purchase while it is on special as the colour is right for me. If this pencil was softer and easier to apply I would definitely give it full marks and declare it as my perfect brow pencil.

EDIT: took down a lip because after getting feedback from friends, family and MUA boarders, I decided that the taupe shade was, indeed, still too warm for my black eyebrows. Not a bad pencil, but my asian brows will have to keep on searching.
Max Factor products aren’t sold in the US anymore, but it is still found in Germany (where I live).
I bought the eyebrow pencil in “Greybrown” – their taupe color, I suppose meant for blondes – during a drugstore sale with a 30% discount. This meant the price of the pencil was well within the affordable range, in keeping with other similar drugstore products. Normaly priced, however, I think it goes for around 4 euros or so, which is a bit stiff for a mere eyebrow pencil. The consistency is a little hard and waxy, which is fine for using on the eyebrows as you wouldn’t want it to be too smushy going on anyway.
The good part about this pencil is the color – I have black hair and eyebrows, and ashy taupes free of any red undertones are the colors I need to make a “natural” looking eyebrow. Blacks make me look like a carnival clown, and reddish-browns show up unnaturally brightly as well. Most drugstore companies in Germany don’t produce a red-free taupe that suits my skin and hair type, and Max Factor was the only one I could find that came close enough without being too overtly warm-toned. It’s not perfect, but it gets the job done without having to shell out ridiculous amounts of money for what it actually is. I would buy it again if I really needed to, but I would also hold out for a sale price to make it affordable, since it isn’t perfect.

I have naturally full, thick, black eyebrows. I only fill in sparse areas and perfect the shape, so I’m not very demanding when it comes to eyebrow products. I’ve been using this pencil since I’ve started doing my brows- years ago, AND I’m only using my second one! This goes such a long way! I use the shade “dark brown” and it’s perfect for me. Currently the spoolie looks better (like a regular one in most of other eyebrow pencils).
It lasts on my brows for a whole day, am to pm.
guiltyPretzels4
This is an excellent brow pencil. Easy to use, long lasting, good colour and I like the stiff brush on the opposite end. Will def repurchase.
EDIT: keeps breaking when sharpened… Didn’t last long… Will be looking for something else.

I’m a fan of this eyebrow pencil!!! This is my holy grail brow product, after trying many many (many) brow products out there, this is my absolute favourite. The shade is a green undertoned dark brown which is just perfect!!!i usually go for a dryer texture but i dont mind the creaminess at all, it gives more color payoff:) lasts forever.. Dont drop it though cause it will break!

After trying out a few different eye brow pencils my eye brow threader recommended this one. Im so glad she did! The colour (dark brown) is perfect for me and I love the brush at the other end which is good for softening what I’ve shaded in with the pencil. The other brands I bought had to be sharpened every few days. Touch wood, I’ve had this pencil for 3 months now and only just had to sharpen it today. I bought the Clarins sharpener to go with it (only used it once) but it seems great too – sharpens well and the end of the pencil doesn’t get ‘caught’ in the sharpener and break off. This eyebrow pencil is a keeper for me. The only tiny thing that I could say makes it not so good is that the lids don’t stay on really well. Its not a prob, they just feel a little loose. That said, I would still always make sure I’ve got this pencil in my make up bag.

I bought this after reading the reviews here as I was looking for alternative to my Shu Hard 9.. the first purchased was exciting because the color is very close to Shu’s, and the application is swift as compare to Shu. However, I would say half of the product goed to trash as it broke off too easily.
Bought 2nd one and to my dismay, I only get to use 1/3 of the product in less than a month due to it’s rather poor quality. To be fair, I tested other pencils on my sharpener and conclude that Clarin’s Brow pencil break off too easily. I love the colour and the smooth application but turns out more expensive than other brow pencil when most of the product goes to waste. Hope they will improve on it (perhaps I’m in such such bad luck in buying both pencils that had been dropped before).

I LOVE THIS PENCIL. I have brown dark hair and I have the shade “Dark Brown” is awesome, this don’t have the redish undertone so is great for me. I have awesome brows in a minute. Great product. The bad thing is the price but worth it.

another great product from clarins. this creamy eyebrow pencil is a great alternative to hard eyebrow pencils like shu uemura hard formula hard 9. i love it and will not hesitate to repurchase it.

I love this brow pencil for so many reasons- the finish is very natural looking, matte, fills in the gaps very well. the color is buildible- starts from greyish-black to full on black. good on natural black brows. But sometimes if you apply too much your brows will look fake. A better option is the Benefit precisely my brow, I’m using the darkest shade (not sure if it is 06 or not)
joyfulDove2
it’s a great product and makes your eyelashes look natural but you waste a lot of product when you sharpen it.

I purchased the pencil in Brown/Black #5 and it is the perfect shade for my very sparse, non existent eyebrows. It covers the sparse areas very well. Its mixture of brown and black gives my brows a natural look and on my extremely oily skin, this stuff last all day with no fading. It has a powdery texture that glides on smoothly and it’s very well pigmented. Great product.
exactingIguana7
HG brow pencil. It is so smooth and covers instantly. Worth every penny, and does not break me out like Laura Mercier.

I absolutely love this brow pencil. I’ve made it through an entire one and I just came back from Sephora with two new ones! I think there’s powder in these (if that makes sense). The No. 5 pencil is the perfect brown/black for my NW44/45 skintone. Try it! One of the best MUFE products in my opinion.
ashamedWhiting1
It truly is long lasting. With my oily skin, it’s hard to find a pencil that stays true to what it is at the end of the night. I like that it has an auburn undertone to it, because my hair is red violet 🙂 so yay to that.
I really love how it’s orange, because it’s easy to find in my make up box…heh
Another thing I really like about it is, you can build the color on.
pridefulCordial7
On the advice of Reviewer Sblee, I bought this at Sephora. I cannot tell you how much better my brows look! I had them tattooed 15 years ago and am not ready to go through that again since they have faded, so I’ve been using pencil for the last couple of years. Definitely worth the $18!
morbidRelish1
I’ve only used this a few times but I love it, past pencils have always been a bit too creamy and therefore less precise and more smudgable. Perfect hardness. Colour selection is great. Haven’t had to sharpen it yet but hoping it creates a sharp tip like when used new.
culturedApples6
Best brow product ever. Pencil is quite hard which I find easier to use. Don’t like the little brush on the end I prefer to use a disposable mascara brush

I was so happy when I discovered this eyebrow pencil. The shade, texture, quality…all was beautiful.
That until the tip broke. 🙁 There is no way I can sharpen it again to use it. Because is so creamy(or maybe in spite of that) its hard to make a tip at all, it looks like its in pieces inside the pencil. 🙁
I sharpened nearly all of it and It still doesn’t work.
extremely disappointed.
I love chichi and I loved this in particular. I might give it another go and buy another one

This pencil has the weirdest consistency i have ever experienced with eyebrow pencils, in a good way! Most eyebrow pencils are waxy/crayon-ey or just simply like a pencil consistency (at least the ones that i have tried). But this one, when i swatched it on the back of my hand it didnt seem to show anything (not so opaque), but i went ahead and bought it anyways coz i just need one because i just love the packaging (sorry not sorry).
Then i got home and tried it on my eyebrows and i was like, whoa! It glided effortlessly on my brows, i only did light strokes and the color payoff was good!
Now the thing abt the consistency is that once it got to my brows it felt like powder, lol, seriously it didnt feel like a pencil at all, i dont know if im explaining this good enough but yeah, and i LOVE it!
I got the dark brown color and it didnt have any red undertones, it was more cool/ashy which i like coz my eyebrows are dark dark ash brown.
I am very happy i purchased this product. For €8 and the results i got i am not even gonna complain, in fact, im gonna go ahead and purchase a couple more so it could last me a life time lol!
The staying power is good. I dont really have oily skin especially on my eyebrow area so for me it lasted all day pretty much. I dont mind touching up anyways.

Made in Japan and recommended by Lisa Eldridge. Sold in SaSa stores. Everything on this box is in Japanese and I only bought it because I saw Lisa Eldridge using it in one of her recent videos. The sales lady recommended the light brown colour (saying it would match my hair) and I normally wouldn’t have chosen that colour but I’m glad I did because it suits me very well and colour wise, is better than my recently purchased Tarte brow pencil in medium brown. It’s a non-sharpening twist up pencil and is very affordable. Although my brows seem intact after a few hours, it is easily rubbed off with a finger so I’m not too sure about its long lasting claim. Overall I am liking the product and am using it daily.

PERFECT FOR LIPS! Wow, I bought this having run out of my usual MAC liner and waiting for another…its a sublime color for lips. I have the shade ‘blond’ and its utterly natural. I actually applied it and asked the counter assistant and she didn’t see I had lip liner on.
Superb!

A Dior product should in my opinion be better than this. You are expecting the best when purchasing Dior, right?
This is not. By far.
It starts to glide around after a while but when applying it its too hard (?!).
Colours are also a bit off 🙁
You get alot for your money though, it lasts forever. Or is it because i just dont wish to use it everyday because i dont find it to be great?
Anyway, im not buying again.
Go for MAC if you want an eyebrow pencil that looks absolutely natural and lasts all day long 🙂

A few years ago i was trying to find a good brow pencil i remember at that time i was using guerlain’s pencil in blonde no1 and sometimes was too dark. I did try the dior and i found my HG of eyebrow pencils.
I was repurchasing until a couple of years when i went to dior counter and i saw a different packaging i said to the lady if there was any change to the formulation and she said that everything was the same.
Of course everything was different.
First the color is changed then the pencil is more soft which is not a good thing for a brow pencil and i know lots about makeup.
I went back to guerlain and also i’m using mac fling eyebrow pencil (guerlain if i want more defined brows and mac for a more soft look).
Eyebrow pencils is a very personal thing to everyone but i think that there are much better pencils out there than dior’s.

If this product did not work so darned well, it would be rediculous. CD better be glad that they have developed a product that is truly a universal shade, that has the exact consistency needed for perfect brows, that comes packaged in a sleek, shiny case with a nice (concealed) brow brush on the end with a twist up pencil. Shame on you CD for not creating refills for this product. It’s a waste of plastic and paint. That said, I have had mone for over 2 years now and have a good inch of pencil left. There is no waste because it does not require a sharpener. Will I buy again? Probably, lol.

This is, hands down, the best eyebrow pencil I’ve ever used, and I do, to this day, feel like it’s going to last me practically forever. I am light blonde with accordingly sparse and light eyebrows. I use this every single day, just to fill in and define.
I bought mine in November 2010 and now I have used up about half.
To me, this completely justifies the price. Even though I don’t use a lot for every application, for something to last this long, I am still amazed. I have had to sharpen it maybe four or five times.
When it comes to colour, I’m using the Brown shade. This might be the reason why I have used so little, because then I apply less. I had a travel edition of this pencil in the blonde shade, and it feels as if the brown is the blonde – just with a heavier hand.
I’m super happy that I have found my eyebrow nirvana – will probably never, ever be illoyal to it.
crummyMandrill7
This is nowadays the only pencil for brows that I use, because it’s just so great. The colors are natural and suit so well, the pencil lasts forever (I use mine almost every day and it last approximately for a year) – so I don’t think I’ll never try anything else since this is THE best!
jealousCake8
This powder brow pencil was actually my second purchase of this Dior pencil; the first one was good and I re-purchased this one in a slightly cooler color (sand). The pencil is silver, not the blue one shown on the site. My first time using it, the colored part of the product came out of the pencil! I sharpened it with the Dior sharpener; more product broke off and fell into my wastebasket. I have now used this pencil about 6 times, and it is half gone because the pencil keeps breaking off.
It may be a bad one in the lot, but I have other problems with this formuation. The powder will not blend, and I mean, will not blend, with any product which you may have on the brows from applying sunscreen or foundation. It grabs onto any moisture, so forget using it in hot weather. I have wiped my brows clean of any other products and then tried to feather the point onto my brows (which is an effort to achieve since the pencil keeps breaking off). The color was okay; I expected a better hue from this company.
I love Dior palettes and thought this brow pencil would reach that high level of quality but at $26, it was a waste of money. Defining already nicely shaped and highly arched brows should not be an art project. All I needed was more color, and this pencil made even that simple task frustrating.
selfishBaboon0
This is a retractable brow pencil with a fine lead. This very inexpensive and works on powdered or non-powdered skin. I don’t always powder my skin, and some brow pencils don’t work for unpowdered skin ie. Shu Uemura’s retractable brow pencil. Very easy to use, its my favorite drugstore brow pencil. Anastasia brow wiz is my other fav, they are very similiar, i feel Kate’s has a slightly drier harder lead.

I bought this after trying so many other eyebrow pencil products. I was overly impressed with how well it matches my brow shade and the application was smooth! the price of this product is roughly $4 which is great for me. I highly recommend this to someone who needs to elongate or lightly fill in their eyebrows.
awedToucan1
I’m not sure if it’s the shade (soft blonde) but this pencil is so hard and takes ages to apply because you have to press so hard. It does have staying power but only because you press so hard to put it on. Good value for 2 pencils in one pack but I definitely won’t be repurchasing this product.
hushedPretzels0
I like this pencil! I comes in a pack of two with a little sharpener in it. I really like that it has it’s own sharpener because I find that eyebrow pencils break off in regular sharpeners sometimes. I use this in ‘soft brown’ and it’s a good color for me (I’m fair with medium blonde hair). It doesn’t blend well, but it’s good for definition. It stays on really well. I can easily go throughout the day and see minimal to no fading at the ends of my brows.
That being said, I once accidentally bought this in soft blonde and figured I could try to use it and see how it turned out. I had a similar experience to the reviewer who said it doesnt write. No matter how much I put on my eyebrows, I didn’t even get a hint of color. It’s virtually useless.
Verdict: Don’t buy the soft blonde but otherwise, this is pretty nice!

There some things I refuse to spend a lot of money on; eyebrow pencils are one of those things. This eyebrow pencil (I used to use soft blonde, now I use the dark brown one) is perfect for me. It lasts forever, is soft and easy to work with (I tend to make mistakes, as my brows involve a bit of detailed work) and easy to fix mistakes. If you’re into more “hard” textured pencils, this may be too creamy for you, but I love it and it lasts through everything despite its softness.
enviousBurritos5
Don’t waste your time with any covergirl eyebrow pencil. I recently got them in soft blonde, and the pencil itself won’t even “write.” I had to nearly stab myself to get any color, the pencil broke, the color sucks, etc. stay away.
resolvedSardines7
It last forever. I just use it on the ends of my eyebrow because it looks unnatural on the rest and I only use a small amount. Color doesn’t blend the best but it is defining.

Have used this pencil for ages, I try others but always come back to it. Creamy texture makes it super easy to apply with good staying power. Like the little brush on the cap but would prefer a spoolie. Down to the tiniest stub of pencil left and will definitely repurchase

It’s difficult to find Presitige Cosmetics in most drugstores, but if you’re in the New York City area, it seems that a good handful of Duane Reade stores carry them!
Formula: I really like this pencil formula! It’s so hard to find a drugstore brow pencil that isn’t too waxy and soft. This pencil is sort of dense like those Anastasia brow pencils, so you have more precise control when it comes to filling in your brows. And because this is a hard pencil, your brows will come out look more natural!
Color Pigmentation: I tried Taupe and LOVE it! It’s one of the best drugstore eyebrow pencil colors available! It’s a perfect shade that complements many dark-haired people and isn’t too orange-y or bronze-y as some others have pointed out. Because the pencil is hard, you’re supposed to build the color up as you go — so keep filling until you get your ideal coverage! I personally like having brows that are about two to three shades lighter than my natural hair color, so this Taupe really fit the bill!
Lasting Power: I have oily skin, so there’s always a possibility that all color will wash off by the end of the day. So, if you know you’re skin type, you’ll just have to work with it and find a way to make your color stay on longer. I have no problems with this wearing off. 🙂
Price: I wish it were a little cheaper like those Wet n’ Wild eyebrows pencils (those are $1!!), but yeah, I can see why they’re more expensive.

For reference I have dyed dark brown hair which is naturally black. I originally used the pencil in Earth Brown, but found that it was much too easy to darken your brows too much. I think Taupe, a neutral light brown, is a better match for even darker hair colours as the colour is much more buildable and easy to work with.
* PROS
– Comes with a brush on the lid.
– Easy to apply.
– Lasts FOREVER, I have been using it for months and have only sharpened it once.
– Seems to work better when your skin has some oil, but is not too oily (ie. after you wash your face). Works well as long as you use a light hand and short strokes – if you accidentally fill your brows in too dark, it’s hard to fix.
* CONS
– Doesn’t last all day. I also have Revlon Brow Enhancer, which is a wax, and that lasts longer.
– The brush is VERY stiff, and seems to pick up a lot of pigment, yet you can’t see it because the hairs are black. When I use it, all the built up product on it is reapplied. I have never had to wash my Ecotools brush, which is what I use. I only use the brush when I can’t find my Ecotools one.

I had been using a dark brown pencil on my eyebrows, since I have black hair..but after filling them in, they always looked unnatural. I purchased this in Taupe even though it looked like it would be way too light for me, but it turned out great! I have short brows with very sparse hair at the end, but even when I fill out that part, it looks like my natural hair, not like a drawn on eyebrow. I also really like the brush at the end. I will definitely repurchase.

I got this eyebrow pencil in taupe, my eyebrows are dark. The other color seemed, reddish/brown for my coloring. I think taupe is a safe color. After I apply the pencil to fill in, I use the little brush to slightly smudge it. I really cannot tell that I have used a pencil on my eyebrows, it doesn’t look harsh. The texture is not too soft, because of that the application is more forgiving in my opinion. I am pretty happy with this pencil.

I have this in Taupe, a light neutral brown. The pencil sharpens easily and is soft enough to apply but firm enough to make hair-like thin strokes perfect for filling in my eyebrows. It looks so natural I don’t think anyone could tell I use brow pencil.
Also, the color is very versatile – I have used Taupe when I had blond-streaked light-brown hair, brown hair, and now reddish brown hair. It applies light brown or darker depending on how hard you press, and you can warm it a little by rolling the tip in a piece of tissue between your fingers. The little brush on the cap is surprisingly handy for smudging, or for combing your brows into place. And the cap fits on the rear end of the pencil as well as the tip, so you have an all-in-one tool when applying. A good inexpensive drugstore essential.

Incredible product!
I use the shade hazel and it fills in any gaps and gives an overall thicker and fuller look to my brows in practically no time at all. Its super creamy, however precise and once applied stays put all day. The price is great for the quality of the product, it definitely beats any other brow pencil on the market.

Love this. Precise and the perfect hardness.

I’ve tried brow gels, mascaras and other pencils and I always come back to this one. Not the most amazing but it’s definitely my go to. I love dramatic brows so I use the black/brown and I love the color more than anything else. It’s super blendable, but also can be a bit messy on application. Once it’s on, it stays. Can’t beat the price. Blows most of the pencils I’ve bought from Sephora out of the water.

I agree with the comment below! I’m surprised to like this in 02 Dark Brown shade which instead gives off a taupe or light brown shade. Perfect for dark blonde. Brows looks natural light brown no joke!

I have tried many eyebrow products. Many. Powders look like a caterpillar on my face because I do have brow hair, but it’s light and some hairs are even white now. Pencils are either too red or too yellow in the Ash or Taupe. So I went out on a limb here and bought this in dark brown. It has no red or yellow to it, and by using it with a light hand, I get a light brown brow, a true light brown that lasts all day. I love the hard pencil! Then I top it off with Mac brow gel to color the white hairs. It’s a long pencil, but it’s still pricey.
The Maybelline brow pencils are similar in hardness, which is nice, but they are way too reddish.
I gave it a 4 for packaging because I don’t understand the brush on the end. I would prefer a spoolie, but I use it to dip in a white shadow to apply under my brow. I can’t figure out what else it’s for. It sure can’t be for blending because it doesn’t blend.
For other blondes who are looking for a light brown/taupe brow with no red/yellow, try the dark brown! It’s a pleasant surprise.
Update: I’ve been using this for months and I still love it. I went back to a few other pencils for a bit, but kept coming back to this. The color is fabulous and it stays on all day. Will definitely buy when this one runs out, but that will take a long time.
Update 4 years later: I’ve bought this again for 4 years. That’s how much I love it. I also use the same pencil in blonde for the top half of my brows and use the dark brown on the bottom half. A pencil lasts at least a year.

This is the best eyebrow pencil I’ve tried so far, mostly because of the color. Raven-haired ladies rejoice! I have the shade Natural Black and it works with my black hair and brows. I’ve only used drugstore pencils and powders in the past and their shades usually have a lot of red undertones, so this product was a revelation! This fills in my brows very naturally.
I don’t like having to sharpen the pencil, which wastes some product and is a slight inconvenience. I would love this Natural Black color as a mechanical pencil. I prefer the finer tip and the fact that you just twist the pencil to get more product. Anastasia Brow Wiz now comes in a black shade, so that may be next for me. I also don’t use the brush side that often. I prefer to use a spoolie to brush out the pencil lines, but the brush works in a pinch.
While this product works pretty well for me, I’m a little at odds about the price. I have found drugstore brow pencils I like, but the shades are a little too warm toned and it takes more time to make them work for me. I’d happily go back to Maybelline Define-a-Brow if they’d make a shade like this. Until then..

Wow!! This is amazing. I never thought a “brown” pencil could work on me. My brow hair is black. Unlike most people, it is much darker than the hair on my head so I had to use black eye pencil on them. I know some makeup “experts” advise against black but given the options, the black was the most natural look on me. Wearing regular dark brown, reddish or greyish colors were just wrong on me. Then I came across Clarins Eyebrow pencil in 01 dark brown. I actually had to ask the checkout girl to make sure I wasn’t crazy. I said to her “this is not your usual dark brown, is it?” and she said no that it was a much darker brown because Clarins customers are in the two extremes: very fair hair and very dark hair. All I know is that I am glad I found this. I can look natural without being afraid of using too much like I would with my regular black. Contrary to the light color swatch on the Clarins website, this color is more of a blackish brown aka black/brown. It is that dark and I LOVE it!
For those wondering between a pencil and a powder: unlike most people, my brows naturally stop half way. As one of the Clarins ladies joked “half of your eyebrow is missing so pencil is better” lol! If your brows don’t stop halfway, you can still use this pencil for filling in and darkening because it really does have this soft natural look to it. It is a hard pencil which is much better for your brows and it has a brush attached to the other end for blending. If any part of what I wrote above resonates with you, then you owe it to yourself to try this pencil.

I first received this as a gift. I was using a MAC brow powder (which is now discontinued) prior to this. At first I was hesitant because I was used to the MAC and “brow zing” from Benefit before that. I like it a lot, because once I finished it (which lasted forever) I bought another one.

My HG brow pencil. I had a hard time finding a shade that was a lighter brown that didn’t have a reddish undertone. I used Givenchy and Dior and was not pleased with how the shade appeared on my brows. I am a very blonde with fair-medium complexion and I prefer a dark blonde or taupe brow pencil. I’ve tried both shades and the darker blonde is probably better suited for me. Goes on nicely, looks natural, and is decently priced. I will for sure be repurchasing again and again and again.

Absolute love. Long wearing, natural looking color. I have dark brown hair/brows and use #5. I also have #4 and this shade can work too. I have pretty thickish brows but they are slightly uneven. With this pencil I can fill in a few areas and even my brows out. The results are completely undetectable and natural. I find that my brows look great for 12+ hours and the pencil does not affect my sensitive skin. I easily remove with castor oil. This pencil also lasts forever so it is well worth the money.

Bought this based on the very taupe-looking swatch on sephora.com. Color match FAIL. “Taupe #2” is the reddest taupe I’ve ever seen. I could almost use it as lipliner. If you have auburn or red hair this could be your HG, but if you struggle to find brow pencils that aren’t too red, this is NOT your answer.
