Remember that fake crappy nail polish that came in the little girls first makeup kits? It was better than this crap. I could have clipped all of my nails off and had them grow back before this stuff dried!! And it chipped 30 minutes after I applied it!!! Who are they kidding?

This is horrible. The nail dryer doesn’t dry!!! Not sure how they get away with a nail dryer that doesn’t even almost work.
First, it keeps shutting off every 1-2 mins. Not sure why because it obviously doesn’t take 1-2 mins to dry. After an hour of clicking the button to turn it back on my nails were still wet. And just wouldn’t dry at all.
The polish itself is awful, smells terrible, the texture is like a weird rubbery texture, nothing like nail polish, more like weird glue, dried into the corners on my skin and wouldn’t seperate, it glued the sides of my skin to the nails. I honestly think it’s a glue not a polish. The gel polishes I used before were nothing like this.
WORST PART- The acetone nail polish remover didn’t even almost remove the polish ( even after soaking) I had to scrape it off with a knife. This gel nail polish craze has to go.

I think the polishes are overpriced – they don’t last very long. It lasted maybe 3 days for me before it started lifting, 5 days total. I didn’t like how it didn’t feel very thick and hard on the nails like the Gellish polishes. I need something better for the price that I’m paying. I don’t want to wear a gel polish that only lasts a few days.
On a good note – it was super easy to remove 🙂

I bought the base , top, and a red color gel. I didn’t buy the starter set because I already have the lamp and other accessories from doing my own gel nails for a couple years.
My nails looked GREAT..for about a day. Within 24 hours (office work and not much housework), the gel polish peeled/chipped off for 3 of my nails. I have regular nail polish that lasts longer than this. Like previous reviewers, this peels off, instead of chipping off. The only advantage is that I can peel the whole nail off in one piece instead of soaking in acetone.
It takes a bit of technique to make your gel nails last long -but like I said -I’ve been doing my own gel nails for years. I don’t recommend this product.

Shell we dance kit:
I was so sick of doing my nails every couple of days so I decided to try this. It was pretty easy but a little time consuming.
The first time I used it I followed the instructions to a T. They looked great but after two days they started to peel (I’m a waitress so i’m constantly washing my hands and putting them in glassware washers etc).
Some one told me I didn;t cure them long enough so the next time I tried 60 seconds. Again they started to peel after 2-3 days.
Long story short: The kit is great but the only thing I would switch out is the base coat. I bought some gelish foundation at sally’s and now they last forever! I still use the top coat that came with the kit. The gelish base makes all the difference.
For less than $100 CAD this is a great kit, the light is not too big or too small. You can’t put your whole hand in but I speed up the process by laying four finger on top of the four fingers of my other hand and do them together then both thumbs together.
NW15 skin the colour is exactly what I wanted OPI’s bubble bath to look like which it didn’t; BB is much pinker while SWD is creamier and more sheer. I will definitely by more SWD but probably not the top coat. I’ll try a gelish top coat when I run out of the sally one

I’ll never buy the salon gel polish from Sally Hansen again. I’ll stick to their regular formulas, but not gel LED products. First, it’s more expensive than other brands out there, so not worth the money in my opinion. Secondly, the formula is poor and my entire nail paint flaked off in one whole piece. My method is good and I skip no steps in the prep of gel polishing. After the first nail flaked (about 2 days after application), 3 more followed.
There are far better brabds out there. I own several SH nail products, but they can’t quite seem to hit the nail on the head with gel products. It’s a dud for me.

I bought the starter kit with ‘Wine Not’ and separately purchased ‘Shell We Dance’, on special from Priceline for $59.95 AUD. Given gel/shellac manis are $20-25 minimum, three manis and I was ahead.
The kit consists of a LED lamp, the base coat and top coat and one polish, as well as a small file, orange stick and rubbing alcohol wipe.
I usually use 2x LED to set each layer and find that I get longer wear.
Shell we Dance-much more pink than I would like but great formulation, goes on evenly and two coats gives good sheer coverage.
Wine Not-not a wine colour, more a Christmas Red, goes on nicely and good coverage after two coats.
Pros: Great price, all the equipment provided, up to about four or five manis and nowhere close to running out.
Cons: I don’t get a week out of this, three-four days at most. I’m hard on my nails though.The polish peels off rather than chips or tip wear (although I got more tip wear with wine not).
Overall, I would purchase this again, but when it runs out I would probably try a few other options (CND etc) to see how they worked out.

This is a great product! A few of my friends were buying separate parts online and they were spending $70+, Sephora has an OPI version for $120 and this Sally Hansen one was only $50 at Target. Great value and I followed the instructions to a T and have a great set of gel nails. Just used the kit for the first time, had to redo one nail because I got polish on my skin and it started peeling. I like that the light is LED instead of UV, also. Hoping to get at least a weeks worth, I’m super hard on my nails.

I love this set! They provide all the essentials for a perfect at home shellac manicure/pedicure. It is one of those tools that practice makes perfect. It will take a few tries and playing around with different techniques to master shellac. Manicures usually last about 2 weeks and pedicures 4 weeks. Of course they never look as good or hold up as well as getting your nails done at a salon but it is a great at home alternative. My sister has the Gelish start set and it is absolutely awful in comparison. I would highly recommend Sally Hansen’s Gel Polish Starter Kit to anyone wanting to do their nails at a more affordable price and with the convenience of being at home.

I got this on sale for $60 after spending a few months thinking about it. I was sick of doing my nails every 2-3 days (I’m hard on my nails) and having chips all the time.
This kit lived up to the promises it made! Well, I don’t get a full two weeks out of my manicures, more like one week. But since I normally only get 1 days of unchipped nails, a week of beautiful nails is well beyond my expectations! Like I said, I’m rough on my nail polish, and they did start to peel when I gardened without gloves on (no shock there), or one time when I filed my nails and then vigorously washed my hair (the hairs got stuck on the “jagged” ends and once it starts peeling, it’s over).
I am sure someone who is gentler on their hands could get 1.5-2 weeks no problem.
Do follow the instructions to the letter as any deviation (such as not roughing up your nail bed, or overlapping onto your cuticles/skin) will shorten the duration of your manicure.
Just fyi: The nail cleaner pads are just rubbing alcohol so just buy a bottle and some cotton pads when the pads in the kit run out. And I use regular acetone nail polish remover (I put some in a shot glass and soak my fingertips) to remove it.
Application takes about the same amount of time of doing my nails with regular polish which is nice.
