I bought this “light liner” in Moonlight Purple and that is the reason for my review. I’ve used liner off and on through the decades, but my prominent upper lids look best with shadow, which I’m allergic to now. I don’t like the harsh look of a defined line on my very visible lids, but I have olive green eyes and can wear certain purple shades so I thought I’d give this a try after only doing mascara for 5 months.
Moonlight Purple is a metallic lilac color that is very mid-’80s (when I started wearing makeup) and I really, really love it! I normally like a fig color so this was a surprise, especially as trendy makeup that looks good on a 20-something doesn’t necessarily look good on a 40-something. I feel a bit nostalgic about this color and am having some fun when I catch it in the mirror. I honestly didn’t think it would look good as it’s a cool tone and I have warm, light olive skin, but it looks very pretty and is brightening, as advertised. It also doesn’t highlight my camouflaged under-eye circles. This pencil stays put all day for me, but I do apply mineral powder over my moisturizer and have dry skin as I’m in my 40s.
Per the packaging, I love that it’s automatic and so easy to apply. The only reason I gave the product 4 stars is that I think gel pencils are just cleaner. This does go on clean and evenly, but after a few days, there’s a bit of residue on the side of the plastic tip and the liner tip is a little soft and round, which is hardly a big deal in this light shade and the line thickness is still perfect for me. As it’s not a gel liner and has more of a creamy-base, I did also have the tip break off today, which was annoying, but I think the creaminess is what makes the color so pretty and more flattering than gels for those of us who are older and don’t need harsh lines on our faces. This color is a trend so for under $5 at Walmart, get it while it lasts–even those of us who wore metallic pastels over 30 years ago.
