I used ‘APC’ quite a few years back alongside the ‘Retinol 0.5% Refining Night cream’ also by Skinceutical. The latter was a fantastic product, the former – not so much! My concerns were a spot of pigmentation (melasma) on my forehead, I have no sun damage thankfully as diligently apply SPF every day. The melasma seemed to appear straight after a course of medication. I got straight onto the net to find out what I could use that would help fade it. Many a time this product came up so I ordered myself a tube.
First I used it twice a day, 1-2 pumps as instructed but found it too heavy, even though it is quite a thin lotion, so I decreased to AM application only and used the retinol 0.5% on a night. I went through the whole tube – which costs a fair amount, and didn’t notice hardly any difference. The only difference I did see was when I stopped usage for 1-2 weeks and used the 0.5% retinol alone. This actually seemed to work better than using both in combination with one another. If my pigmentation was to ever return I would not be investing in this to tackle it.

I was underwhelmed by this. I was hoping it would lighten or erase old dark marks and scarring from past acne breakouts on my back. I already used Peter Thomas Roth Un-wrinkle peel pads (my favorite glycolic acid peel) and while it smooths the skin, it doesn’t do much for the stubborn dark marks. I applied the Pigment Corrector after letting the peel sit for five minutes (not rinsing off). The Pigment Corrector didn’t really do much until I alternated it every night with Neutrogena Rapid Tone Repair Night Moisturizer (a lightweight lotion with retinol and Vitamin C). Eventually, I started to see some improvement, but by then the tube of Skinceuticals Pigment Corrector was empty and I didn’t want to spend the money on it. I still use the Neutrogena every other night and I’m on the hunt for a better, non-irritating pigment corrector. On the upside, this did not bleach everything it touches like most dark mark correctors, nor did it irritate my skin. The packaging was odd; it looks like a tube that you’d squeeze, but it’s really an upside-down pump with a rigid plastic and there is no way to know when you get low or if there’s any product left inside. It feels wasteful. I won’t buy this again.

I have been using this product for a month and again, am comparing this to a similar product by Obaji. My experience with Obaji products has been that they are too harsh for my semi-sensitive skin, which is why I switched to Skinceuticals. I am quite pleased with the results already of the Advanced Pigment Corrector, and do not experience any redness or dryness. In the morning I apply a few drops of CE Ferulic and then wait 15 minutes for it to absorb, and then I apply a pea size amount of this, it is a thin lotion that spreads easily and absorbs. After about 10 minutes I apply moisturizer and sunscreen. Sunscreen is critical because I definitely feel my skin is more vulnerable to the sun while I am using this product, and particularly as I use a Retin-A cream at night. In addition to daily morning use, I have been using the pigment corrector 3 nights a week, after I apply my Retin-A (waiting about 20 minutes before using the corrector). I have seen the final fading of a few sun spots that had been lightened already by the Retin A and CE Ferulic combo- it’s like the finishing touch that was needed.
I don’t know how this product performs on its own- but I like what it does when used with the 2 other parts of my anti aging regime.
I’ll keep this up because for now I am not interested in doing botox or fillers or lasers- just trying to age gracefully and keep the spots and wrinkles to a minimum.

I have been using this product for six months now so I feel ready for a review. First of all, my skin has dark pigmentation mainly due to sun exposure, and recently those darker areas were bothering me a bit during make up application, so I decided to have a look around and pick up a reputable brand. I apply the pigment corrector only at night and not twice a day. I am too rushed for time in the morning to add another layer to my skincare routine and I am generally happier to devote more time in the evening to my rituals. I apply it and leave 20 minutes before following with a night serum/oil/moisturizer.
Overall, I’m quite happy with the results. The first couple of months I didn’t notice much of a difference but I persevered religiously. Most of the sun spots have dramatically faded, but not disappeared. The tone of the skin is much brighter in general and more even in colour. I’l finish the tube and then give my skin a break for summer. I feel it’s a good idea to start using this product after autumn, so that the sun is less strong and the chances of reoccurance are less in winter. For summer, just the best sunscreen.

This works quickly but the effect is very mild. I used the entire tube diligently and only saw a say <20% improvement. This is an elegant formula, milky lotion that absorbs quickly with no residue. If you are after serious pigment correction, this isn't for you, I would more recommend it as a maintenance product say after laser. if you look at the ingredients (on skinceuticals website), the % of active ingredients is very low and you can find say 10% kojic acid cream easily for less than $15. If you also look at the before and after, the correction is so very mild and in my own experience, I would say its not worth incorporating. You are much better off using a more active ingredient say 20% vitamin C or antioxidant face oil which does much more in protecting and anti-ageing than this. Bottom line is that the benefits just did not justify yet another layer I put on my face. I would recommend you give this a go for maintenance purposes. Packaging and pump is great and best to by on SkincareRx with a 25-30% code which is what I would say it's the maximum its worth.

I was so disappointed in this product. It caused uneven pigmentation and little white Hypopigmentation spots that have not gone away after 4 months of discontinuing the product. They need to go back to the drawing board.

I was using Obagi NuDerm for about 3 months then switched to Skinceuticals products when I had gone through the whole Obagi cycle. I wasn’t expecting a dramatic improvement or difference in my dark spots, but rather to keep them at bay while weaning off of the hydroquinone. In my experience, the APC has a plumping effect on my skin. I am using it in tandem with the phloretin cf in the mornings and Tretinion at night. I have also noticed that it seems more concentrated as I get to the end of a bottle.
I haven’t seen dramatic cell turnover, but then again, I am giving my skin a breather after a rather harsh regimen. My face which was constantly red while using Obagi has gone back to its normal tone and the irritating freckles and melasma spots are staying away for now. My derm suggests I go back on Obagi if I notice the brown spots darkening. (They never totally went away, just got considerably lighter)
The closest product this reminds me of is SK-II Brightening Derm Specialist. They are similar in price and texture. I haven’t looked at their compositions side by side but I bet there are similarities.
In conclusion this is not the most effacacious product, but it is gentle and gives your epidermis a break from harsher regimes.

This product was an Allure 2013 breakthrough winner and that was why I bought it- unfortunately. I had no results with this and I generally find Skinceuticals products to be worth the money (Retinol 1.0 is a good buy). It is a white fluid that doesn’t seem to completely absorb (but doesn’t clog pores) which makes it uncomfortable to wear and my skin looks a little shiny with it on. Absolutely no results on the one sun damage mark on the drivers side of my face that I concentrated the use of the product on. For $100 it is a huge waste of money. You can get an Alpha Hydrox spot lightener (smells strongly with the hydroquinone) that does something for $8.
