I normally don’t do too many reviews, unless the product is really bad or causes me allergic reactions or breakouts. But I really wanted to review this one because of all the low ratings I saw and I don’t think it deserves that. They have recently changed the formula of this product and it’s a little bit more liquidy but it’s still pretty solid and I actually like the reformulated product more. Does masks doesn’t totally dry on your face but that doesn’t mean it’s not working. There are directions on the product that tell you to leave it on for 10 minutes and I just rinse it off really well with cool water. I don’t use a towel like the directions say to. I notice a slight stinging or tingling where I have acne and I feel like that really gets into the pimples itself to dry and clear them up but never dries out the rest of my skin and I have very sensitive skin.
I naturally have some redness to my face and I like this product because it turns it down a lot. I have pretty large pores and I haven’t noticed any change from this product unfortunately. However recently I use a face mask from Walgreens that gave me the worst reaction I’ve ever had. It wasn’t an allergic reaction as I’ve had those before with other products and this wasn’t similar in any way. But it’s stripped my face completely of any moisture barrier, I had the worst redness I’ve ever had in my life my face was tight and itchy and flaking and very dry, and I had pimples all over my face. They range from small whiteheads two bigger cystic type acne, just for your information it was The Studio 35 Beauty manuka honey masks and it was the worst experience I’ve ever had. Besides this African black soap clarifying mud mask I usually just make my own masks but I got as a gift and was excited to try it out and I was horrified. I had an event coming up and my face looked wrecked. I left it alone for a few days just keeping it moisturized and washing it with a very mild moisturizing cleanser but nothing was getting better. I started using this shea moisture mask morning and night and within two days my face had nearly completely healed. The turnaround was a miracle. I can’t believe how fast it cleared that up. Everyone’s skin is different and this mask might not work for everyone, but for me this mask was amazing and I do continue to rebuy it when I run out. for my combination and acne-prone skin this is a miracle but for my horrible reaction this was priceless and I am very thankful that my face can clear up before the event because of this product.

I had a really great professional facial done while on vacation that left my skin absolutely restored. As a result I’ve been on this masking binge trying to maintain the results. I don’t have acne prone skin, so I can’t really say what drove me to try this. It goes on grey and has an almost gel like quality similar to freemans sugar and charcoal mask. However, this maks does not dry down. Also this smell like Play-doh. This wasn’t super drying despite being for acne prone skin.

This used to be dope. Yes it does not “dry” in the sense that most clay masks do, but it was still very effective at treating my acne without drying my skin. However, Shea Moisture decided to water this product down and increase the price. Too bad. This was the last product from their company I was willing to buy. I’m just going to make my own clay mask now and add tea tree oil to it (since I know now the tea tree oil is what was reducing my acne anyway).

Worst mask I have ever used. This is a creamy gray colored mask that smells like play doh. You are supposed to leave this on for 10 minutes. It does not dry. This will stain your washcloth so I removed it with a damp paper towel. I am totally unimpressed with this mask. It did nothing. Nothing. I do not understand why a clarifying mask would add shea butter in it, perhaps to clog pores? This left a film on my skin and I had to rewash my face as I was afraid this would break me out. There are way too many good drugstore and prestige brand charcoal or clay mud masks to waste your time on this on. Getting really tired of the poor results from this brand.

Other than making my face a tad bit oily this was great. The oil is nothing that can’t be fixed with a quick face wash. My pores have gotten dramatically smaller after only one use and my face is a lot less red. I have very acne prone, oily skin with large pores and so I’m constantly looking for something to help that and this has done the trick. 10/10 would reccommend – just don’t use it in the bath because the steam won’t allow it to dry lol

I didn’t like this at all. the only thing I can say is that it smelled nice. didn’t do any clarifying for my skin & ended up breaking out.
I thought my skin was purging but no, it broke me out.

I used as directed and gave me first degree burns all over my cheeks. The following days my face was peeling like if I had gone to the beach. Finally tea tree, witch hazel and aloe helped me 🙂

I tried this product because I’ve used their hair stuff for awhile and had always been curious about this mask. And I’m so sorry I did. I’m not sure what is in this that made my skin react the way it did but its terrible. Within 30 seconds of wearing this mask my skin started to burn extremely bad, especially on my cheeks and chin. I rinsed it off because it was burning so badly. This mask left me with the driest skin I’ve ever experienced. My cheeks were so dry and sensitive that none of my moisturizers or even coconut oil could fix. And it was too sensitive to even attempt to exfoliate. Three days later, after a lot of moisturizers and a good exfoliation, my face is finally somewhat moisturized. My skin is still irritated and breaking out unfortunately. I’m not sure what is in this mask that made my skin freak out, but I will not be putting this on my face ever again. It also smelled like play doh which I found very strange.

The masks feels very refreshing and has a nice scent. It leaves your skin very soft and clean feeling but I do not see any results after each use or even a few weeks after its not a bad purchase but I would not repurchase for the fact that it does not reduce any of my blackheads or pimples or irritations.

This product is okay. The smell isn’t good because it smells like play-doh. It leaves the skin soft without over drying. Once on, it is hard to tell when you should take it off because it doesn’t dry all the way (which isn’t a bad thing because a light layer leaves more to use in the future). The packing is great and it is very gentle but I expected to feel more clean for 15 bucks. However, don’t let this review stop you from buying it. It overall is pretty nice.
