I think this smells amazing, so to each his own. However, don’t be fooled by the grape seed extract and jasmine on the label. They are at the very end of the list of ingredients, meaning there is very little of them in the actual product. I think they would work more like preservatives. I picked this up because one of my favorite curly haired celebrities mentions she uses this product and her hair always looks great. I also have the Trevor Sorbie curl cream, so I may try both at the same time for a cocktail, but I think the smells might clash. I would recommend this product because it gives soft curls and helps define my curls. The price is also decent.

It smells awful. Really, awful. The product is good, decent, that’s all. The hair feels crunchy at first, but after a while, it disappears. You know what does not go away? The stink.

I wouldn’t say this is the best curl defining cream, but I would say it is one of the best at the drugstore. I have fine hair (usually flat and frizzy by the end of the day, naturally in between wavy and curly) so I’ve tried an embarrassing amount of curl defining products to enhance my curls and give my hair some volume. This one really stands out from the other ones I have used because not only does it enhance my curls and give my hair volume, it isn’t greasy and my hair looks clean even after I have used quite a bit of product. It works on both wet and dry hair, I’d prefer to apply when my hair is not very wet but not completely dry. It doesn’t really help with frizz, so I use this with Tresemme’s smoothing serum. The scent of this is almost exactly what grape soda smells like – it may be overpowering when you sniff the bottle before purchasing (guilty) and when you first start using it, but I feel like the scent becomes less obnoxious throughout the day and settles to a lovely, berry-like scent. Your hair will smell like some degree of the original scent throughout use, so I’m just confirming that the smell does not completely go away. So many drugstore and even high-end curl defining products make my hair fall flat by the end of the day, but this keeps the volume and curls all day. The price is great, I believe I bought this for around $6 at CVS so I would definitely repurchase.

i kind loved the smell the first time i open the bottle, but then i got annoyed since it stays all day.
my hair went crunchy, not that bad.
i like to mix my hair cream with hair spray to make my curls last long (i use John Frieda luxurios volumen)…. do not that with this product, the mixture stinks reaaaaally bad and turns into a white mucus with white hard little balls innable to use it.
To little product, too expensive

I have very spiraly curls but my hair is thin not coarse. Very thick cream makes for nicely defined soft curls the first day, but it’s gummy texture makes hair a matted nightmare the next day. It’s so thick you may end up using more than a pearl-sized gob if you have long curls and that weighs down thin hair, pulling the top of the curls straight. Also be aware that it has a very strong grape odor, akin to grape flavored bubble gum. It’s noticeable all day if anyone gets close enough to you. I wouldn’t buy it again.

After reading the reviews here, i thought this would be something that would work well with my unruly, frizzy hair. And wow! My hair seems to drink this up- it seems very moisturizing, feels great in your hands (some creams be slimey or sticky). It gave me smooth, defined, somewhat piecey waves. What more can I say?
I put off trying this brand for a while because I found the name really offputting. I get what they’re going for, but to me “not your mother’s” seemed gimmicky and dumb. Just saying. But its an amazing curl cream. And it smells delicious!

Awesome!! I have adored all of the NYM’s products but the curl creme is my favorite NYM product. I have almost-to-bra-strap length curly hair that’s recently been dyed w a semi permanent demi color & I love the curls this product gives me! I schrunch it either wet (OR dry to refresh the curls), & the grape scent is awesome! If you like the scent of Aussie Mega hairspray then you will enjoy this. Once the product is in, it doesn’t disappoint, my curls last all day, aren’t crunchy or oily, they are no fuss no muss & I can even let my hair air dry & sans product I would be a big huge frizzy mess but this product is the answer to my prayers! Very affordably priced, I’ve bought this 3x so I will have a back up to my 2nd tube which I am on my 2nd tube of this stuff. This is a not to be missed product for curly girls! Cute packaging in a tube which is also utilitarian. I love the little blurbs they write on the back of their products lol too cute!! This washes out easily & doesn’t leave build up. It makes my hair shiny never dull nor greasy. I cannot believe I passed up the NYM products for awhile thinking they were gimmicky & cheap, NYM is as good as some salon brands (minus salon price tag). Check these out!!

I tried this at someone’s house when I forgot all my hair products. First thing I noticed was the smell. Soooo good. Fruity and fun. I was so shocked by how much I liked it in my hair. Ran out and got a tube , been using it for about a month now. My hair is blonde, fine and frizzy, with a lot of bleached highlights so a bit of moisture is needed. This makes my curls big loose and bouncy. They look healthy and moisturized without any crunch. I also have oily hair but this does not make my hair seem greasy as other reviewers have mentioned. I think my bleached parts suck up the moisture and love it. My favorite part about this is I can actually run my fingers through my curls and they bounce right back in place, instead of frizzing up and breaking apart into the dreaded poodle coils. I have tried miss Jessie’s curl cream and all that gave me was frizzy tight poodle coils. This stuff is fantastic at a much better price. Use just a bit at first and add more , too much at once can get a bit goopy.

This stuff is probably better for wavy hair than straight up curly hair. I have to use a lot of it to keep my curls, and then it feels a bit stiff. I’m also not crazy about the Dimetapp grape smell (neither is my boyfriend).
I like to use this in combination with my John Frieda curl spray. It helps keep the frizz down, that’s for sure.
I’d probably buy it again. I wish they’d change the scent, though.

I love the smell, and I was very surprised by how well it worked for the price. I put it in after the shower and it helps lock in curls and make them really smooth. The only problem I find is that it doesn’t really fight frizz through the day.
