I’m not a fan of matte lipsticks at all. I don’t like the way they look and I really don’t like how they feel. But the “Comfort Matte” name had me thinking that this lipstick might actually feel nice on the lips. News flash – it DOESN’T. It drags on the lips during application and feels dry and drying and not comfortable in the least. I got this for the gorgeous colour – a deep plummy red with “tonal shimmer”. I was hoping the shimmer would make this look more “juicy/moist” and feel a bit nicer but it looks and feels way more dry than I was hoping. Using a lip balm, either before or after (and wiping off the excess if I apply the balm first) does help a bit but also had an unwelcome effect on the look and wear – the oils in the balm seem to act to “dissolve” the lipstick, making it fade from the middle of my lips and look all “smeary”. I will use this but I wouldn’t repurchase. I’d love to find a similar colour in a more hydrating formula with a more attractive finish.
Happy update: Thanks to other reviewers here on MUA, I’ve discovered Elizabeth Arden’s Lip Fix lip primer and it has totally changed my experience with this lipstick formula. I can happily and comfortably wear Love Drunk without my lips feeling like dried out, crumpled tissue paper. Because I love this colour so much, it has been a serendipitous experience but while I would probably repurchase this particular colour (if it’s still around when when I finish the one I have), I still don’t think I would purchase any more misleadingly named “Comfort Matte” lipsticks.
