As someone with oily skin, and who wears make up 12 hours a day, I’ve tried many many setting sprays. My local Sephora was out of my HG Urban Decay All Nighter, and my Shoppers was out of my back up NYX Matte Finish so I decided to try this setting spray. The spray smells good and dries pretty quickly, but that’s literally the only pros to this spray. It pills like you wouldn’t BELIEVE. I’ve never had that happen with a setting spray. I couldn’t touch any part of my face without a big chunk of make up coming off, and my skin wasn’t oily. It pilled and made my face look like my skin was peeling off. Do not buy just because it’s a cheap alternative! You’ll have better luck with Hard Candy Fast and Fabulous Setting spray.

For a product which claims to offer a matte finish I look shiny as hell. I’ll be returning the product. Maybe it’s just my skin, but I found the product did the opposite of what the bottle said. It made my face look so shiny!!! Not happy.

I think I need to just give up on Hard Candy products, except their lip things. Everything I’ve put on my face since they launched (came back, whatever) almost 10 years ago has caused breakouts, I was allergic to the eye liners and mascaras I tried, and the shadows are mediocre especially for the price. But this is a review for one product…
My skin is very fair, sensitive and breakout prone, and is now mostly normal with a tiny bit of oil in the center of my forehead (and sometimes on my nose) and a few dry patches occasionally. I wear (physical/mineral) sunblock every day, though, so I still like having oil controlling or mattefying products to set my makeup.
I bought this about a year ago, used it a few times, hated it (and broke out), but kept coming back to it when I ran out of or lost my other setting sprays. (Desperate times and all that.) I’ve tried it with I think 5 different foundations and BB creams from different brands, with at least 4 different primers under it all (I think at least one of those was also matte), over 2 or 3 powders or without, and I do not like it in any combination.
I remember the first time I wore it: It was early summer/late spring, and not yet super humid or hot. But it was just warm enough, and my base was just potentially oily enough, for me to want something matte on top, but powder seemed too heavy. So, I tried this. About an hour and a half after using it, I stepped outside and examined it in the sun and it was terrible. It looked like I’d sprayed cooking oil all over my face. Even my husband commented on how it looked. Yikes. I caved and threw some powder on top (which looked lovely…not…but at least it toned down the grease factor) and put on a hat to try to hide my face as much as possible.
Since then, I’ve tried this so many ways and, at best, it just looks “not good.” I also end up breaking out within about 12 hours after using this, which seems to be the norm for my skin with any HC face product. *sigh* I really want to love their stuff, and I think for some people, they make wonderful affordable products. They just don’t get along with my skin.
Despite my personal issues with their products, I still recommend them because I know other people who use them (including this spray) and the results look fantastic. It’s a pretty cheap setting spray, so I say go for it if you’re considering it, unless you’ve had reactions to other HC face products.
Pros:
-Works great for other people
-Pretty affordable
-Packaging looks pretty good
-Easy to find
-Hasn’t caused an allergic reaction on my sensitive skin
Cons:
-Makes me look greasy
-Sprayer isn’t great (I get big droplets most of the time, so I have to spray it about 3 times into the room before using it over my face, and it still isn’t an even spray, but not the worst I’ve tried)
-Makes me break out every time I use it
-Does not make my skin look anywhere near matte, even over a matte foundation

I saw this at my local Walmart – new on the shelf with a whole row in-stock, but didn’t want to try it until I looked up on MUA to see if anyone had done any reviews on it first.
After seeing the one super positive review – I decided to go back and grab one to try for $6. Can’t beat that. I tried it the next day — SOLD. It doesn’t keep me super matte – but this is the first setting spray that actually seems to help keep my shine down somewhat, doesn’t bother my face, little goes a long way, it’s cheap, and I can apply it frequently. I found that spraying it after applying my foundation and before powder helps – and I have even applied it mid-day to help tone down shine after blotting. This stuff is awesome.
I went back that same night to buy more backups – and they were SOLD OUT. I ended up having to go to another Walmart 20 miles away that had some in stock – and I bought them out! Glad I did, because it looks like my local store is completely sold out (as well as all in a 50 mile radius). On Hard Candy’s website – i think they mentioned these were limited edition (the matte, luminous etc..). The only one I see listed is the Fast and Fabulous – which is also sold out locally (but I found one at the other store to try).
If you have issues with oil or shine – stop by your Walmart and grab one of these before they are gone. I think the matte is a HUGE HIT and I really hope they decide to keep making this line.

I think I found my holy grail drugstore mattifying setting spray! I have been using Urban Decay Allnighter for a few months. I liked how it made my makeup last longer but it does not control my oily t-zone so when I saw his at Walmart I immediately picked it up.
The 2oz bottle is about $7 so around $15 for the full 4oz size. Definitely not cheap but still a lot cheaper than high end brands. The mist is not as fine as my UD Allnighter but it is quite decent. It also does not smell as bad as my UD spray which is a plus. I do notice that it does all the things my UD does but controls oil way better. I am so happy and I can’t believe no one has posted a review about this.
Will definitely repurchase. Over and over. Until they stop carrying it. I hope not though – it will make me seriously sad.
