Due to all the positive reviews of Tender Romance I decided to blindly online purchase a 1oz bottle from Ulta. My shipment arrived and my verdict: nothing about Tender Romance is mind-blowing or spectacular. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad scent by any means. It’s nice but is seems a little “blah” to me… A little pedestrian. Tender Romance reminds me of a better quality, longer lasting version of Katy Perry’s Meow. It’s basically a hard candy scent (think all the flavors of Jolly Ranchers melted into one) layered over a pleasant musk. This is the type of perfume that would smell good to almost anyone, but it’s too nondescript to be a signature, in my opinion. If you are a big fan of Meow and you’re looking for something similar but stronger and longer lasting then definitely test out Tender Romance.
Also it is important to note that Tender Romance and the original Romance smell NOTHING alike. This is not at all a flanker for Romance. They are definitely in two different scent categories (Romance= floral, Tender Romance= gourmand). The same can be said for Midnight Romance, another sweet scent that Ralph Lauren should have named differently.
You will most likely enjoy Tender Romance if you like: Katy Perry Meow, Britney Spears Fantasy, any Viva La Juicy, Amor Amor, Pink Sugar, Prada Candy.

This is a very sweet scent at first, and while that dies down a bit it’s still best suited for sweet scented lovers. The cotton candy notes are surprisingly pleasant, especially as the initial scent gives way to ginger, peachy pear and a bit of vanilla. The scent lasts well, and from smelling it on others, seems to smell just strong enough up close without being overpowering. I gave my best friend a sample and even she liked it despite being anti-sweet scents!
If you like Juicy Glace you will probably note similar notes and an overall similar dry down. If I went for overall description of both, it would be fruity, sultry grape soda. I find them interchangeable for me, but others may find Tender Romance to be a slightly more adult, complex fragrance. IMO this can be enoyed by many age groups and provides a youthful scent without seeming juvenile.

This fragrance starts and ends with a synthetic, overwhelming smell of cotton candy. Like you are wrepped in a pink, sugary, edible cloud. I would have never guessed that sweet note was supposed to be pear. The cotton candy smell overpowers all of the other notes. I don’t like it, but for someone under 20 who loves candy smells that are reminiscent of a summer day at the fair, this might be a well-loved fragrance.

Headache-inducing, cheap fruity-floral.

I live in New Zealand, and this perfume is not coming out here, so my only option was to blind buy it, and the only one available was the full size! But I read sillage’s review of how she took one sniff and grabbed the 3.4oz bottle, and that told me that this had the potential to be loved. It just arrived by courier, and I opened the packet with nervous excitement. I puffed some on my arm and was instantly assailed by this golden vanilla explosion of deliciousness. I still prefer the original Romance, but this is a lovely flanker. I’ve been wearing it for almost an hour now and I can’t stop smelling my wrist. It’s just so yummy. I think it might be similar to Flowerbomb Extreme actually, but this is better because EVERYONE wears Flowerbomb. So pleased I purchased this to add to my collection.

LOVE! I’ve never liked Romance & flankers, so I almost didn’t try this tester — but I halfheartedly gave it a cursory sniff at Ulta and Whoa!!! Head exploded. Ding-ding-ding, we have a winner. Gorgeous.
I was shocked that a Romance flanker could actually blow me away, since I normally think they all smell meh and like window cleaner (except Midnight, which smelled like cough-syrup to me). I’m just not a straight-up floral girl — I mostly like orientals, gourmands, vanillas, and musks — but Tender Romance is actually categorized as an oriental.
And the name? Nah, it just sounded like another lame Romance flanker. WRONG. I’m so glad I tested it — this is nothing like Romance (should have had a different name).
One sniff of the Tender Romance tester made me grab one of the large 3.4oz bottles and head to the register. No question, no quibble — didn’t care what it cost — no need to spray & walk around & wait for the drydown, etc — it was a bullseye — and it had to be mine.
Wearing it now. Smells like Heaven. Smells like something an Angel would wear — or a fairy (maybe Tinkerbell). It smells like sweetness, lightness, purity, clarity, innocence, and deliciousness in a bottle. They could have named it “Celestial”.
An EDP with a pale gold tint to the liquid (reflecting its oriental category), it has a lightness & highness of spirit — but also richness, fullness, roundness, and luxury — and with no offending basenotes. It’s not too strong or overwhelming — medium strength, easy to control with application — and it lasts very well. It’s Just Right.
A 2016 launch, it’s an EDP, and here are its notes, per parfumo.net:
Top Notes – Ginger, Pear, Bergamot
Heart Notes – White magnolia, Jasmine, Ginger lily
Base Notes – Cashmere wood, Benzoin, Musk
Yes, it’s another of the current trend that’s quite sweet, but it’s lighter & more crystalline than the others. I would color the scent itself crystal clear & luminous white, like diamonds & angels. There are many sweet scents out there these days — quite trendy — and maybe this is RL’s “me too” — but Tender Romance, to me, does it better than the others — RL really got it right.
It’s just the perfect sweet blend IMHO, and I hope others give it a chance too, and that it stays around. I think it should have had its own name and not be a flanker of Romance, because like me, if they didn’t like Romance, they may not even test this at all (like I almost didn’t).
Rest assured to Romance non-fans, like me — Tender Romance is nothing like original Romance — it’s a totally different scent and 100 times better than Romance IMHO. Try it!

I really love this scent. It’s a warm, feminine Oriental floral, but there is something in it that I’m allergic to. I immediately started sneezing and itching. So frustrating. Top notes are bergamot, ginger and pear; middle notes are white ginger lily, white magnolia and jasmine; base notes are cashmere wood, benzoin and musk. What the heck is benzoin anyway?
