I own several of these and other sizes by Coastal Scents, and I continue to buy them. They’re cheap and absolutely effective. I’m not a professional MUA so I don’t lug these around but for creating my own palettes these thrill me no end!

Palettes are cheap (literally and figuratively) compared to this indy brand that just came on the scene last year called Adept Cosmetics. They make a great plastic palette that can be compared to the MUFE palette – a nuclear war can happen, but at least your makeup will be safe.

I bought this on Black Friday, for something like $2.50 – it’s a price that they have relatively often on the site (that’s what they have it for at the moment too). I bought two of these (but I think I sould’ve bought a third one, or even four 😛 ) and some brushes, most of which I’m very happy with.
If you’re not familiar with Coastal Scents as a brand, they’re a relatively old company, founded in 2005 and got famous when they began sending their 88-eyeshadow palettes as PR to YouTubers to review. I think I had 2 of their 88 palettes when I just began using makeup. They were OK – good for those who don’t know what colors they like yet, but otherwise, those shadows were a solid 2.5 IMO. Since, the company has expanded. Since Coastal Scents sell their makeup as cheap as they do, they can’t really afford doing PR any more, I think, so you don’t hear much about them
Now to the palettes: I really like to create palettes with the exact colors *I* need, and nowadays it’s pretty hard to find a good empty palette for cheap, with a mirror and non-flimsy lid, in plastic (not cardboard). I also really like to have the pans sit in some specific order, with NO empty spaces or weird gaps, which is something not all companies care about when crating empty palettes. I just can’t handle looking at a palette that has a half-inch gap that cannot be filled with anything useful. If I can’t fill ALL of te space in a palette with my pas, there has to be slots for pans – the palette HAS TO look tidy 🙂
The Coastal Scents palettes are pretty much as perfect as can be for the price! Nice mirror, good magnets (MAC pans will require a metal pan to be stuck under pan), slots that you can pop pans out off really easily, sleek design and very cheap. Also: if you want to, since the lid is flat plastic, you can pretty much decorate it as you want by gluing on stickers, a piece of decorative plastic sheet, or paint the surface. The only small thing I disliked about the palettes was that they smelt a little when they arrived (which took about 3 weeks), but the smell disappeared in a day or so. So: I would repurchase, and do recommend these 🙂
