   TLDR: Stuff did exactly what I wanted and I achieved a pretty, coppery auburn when applying it to my natural medium-to-dark blonde hair. See before and after photo for reference. Application technique and product description below.

   Post-holidays doldrums are really taking their toll on my impulse control because I quickly decided I wanted to do something NEW to my HAIR. I’m an adult human and can’t get away with funky colors in my profession so I wanted to try something in the realm of natural. I decided to aim for a pretty, copper-colored mop.

   For context, my hair is naturally a medium-dark cool, ash blonde (I have included a photo of my hair before and after for reference) and has not been color processed in several years. I didn’t want to use anything that required developer or changed my base color – in fact, I didn’t want anything I’d be married to long term. Like when am I going to go to a salon and get roots done? Do I trust myself with box color? Absolutely not.

   So after researching semipermanent options, I bought this in “Copper.”

   This is a color depositing cleansing conditioner that is designed to refresh artificially-colored hair in between salon visits. If your natural hair is light enough, it can ideally be used to try on a color without the commitment. Mine was like $22 for 10 oz on Amazon but I think prices vary on other colors. ULTA also sells some colors, like rose gold, in liter sizes.

   Application: I wanted as rich of color as possible so I worked it through sectioned dry hair from root to ends with my hands (WEAR GLOVES, I did not and today I have Cheeto hands), a fine comb and a hair brush. The formula is thick enough that it sticks to the hair without dripping, and I had no issue with it making a mess. You want to be generous with it because if not, you won’t get a good color deposit.

   I ended up doing one all-over application and a second pass focusing on my roots down to mid-shaft, because for some reason the first application didn’t take to that area so well. Both times, I let the stuff sit for 20-30 minutes before I went to rinse. The color rinsed out fine and didn’t stain my tub or sink. This being a cleansing conditioner, I didn’t follow up with any shampoo or conditioner.

   Result: The photo is after I misted in a little It’s a 10, blowed dry and flat ironed. My hair feels soft and smells good. It is stupid shiny under light and there are pretty variations in copper and auburn throughout my hair instead of one uniform color.

   I’m not sure how many washes it’ll take to fade. The bottle isn’t huge but after two applications, I still have a little left over to refresh it once. I’ll warn it is fragranced and while it smells good, the smell does not dissipate. By the end of second application, the scent was getting a little obnoxious.

   All in all, I am happy with the results. I would recommend this brand to anyone curious about temporary color conditioners.

   I’m going to begin a series of reviews on products to enhance cool, platinum tones in blonde hair. Most of these products will be anti-brass. I am trying EVERYTHING. My hair is fine, wavy, blown out every other day, and colored using a 7a base with extensive blonde fills to a 10a highlighted effect. As anyone reading this knows, that great ashy tone is tough to hang onto, so in between salon appointments, I turn to color enhancing toners. I’m after deposit only, temporary toning. This will not cover the Wella toners; they’re actually color, and my hair stylist has forbidden me to touch that anymore. I’m after things that make the hair shiny, don’t weigh it down, and don’t give dull, charcoal tones. So, here we go……

   This product comes in several colors, and is available in Ulta. 12 oz runs $22 there, but on Amazon, smaller bottles with squeeze caps are cheaper. This review is for Platinum.

   It’s essentially a cleansing conditioner, though I suspect you could shampoo and use it like a more traditional conditioner. It’s thick, grayish lavender, lightly scented and takes quite a lot to spread, even in my fine hair. I did not shampoo, and left the product on my hair for about 5 minutes after wetting down in the shower.

   As a conditioner, it’s not too bad. My hair wasn’t as soft and bouncy as it usually is, which is why I wouldn’t repurchase. It did leave a nice ashy tone, but no shine. It was a bit grayer and fuller than I would have liked. I suspect the other colors might be better in this prod, especially if someone experimented with time and application. For me, it’s not a repurchase, due to the lack of shine, slightly gummy feel, and amount you have to use.
