I’ve gotten to an age where my skin runs on the dry side, and I live in a climate where the temperatures drop to -40 degrees so I face the freezing weather outside (which can cause dry skin) AND the heaters indoors (which can cause dry skin). I also use retinols, vitamin C and acids which sometimes can make things worse, and when I misuse these ingredients, it can make things horrible. I’ve tried some other moisturizers that are meant for super dry skin and even when I try to supplement with moisturizing masks and etc., they did not perform any where close to this.
The texture of this cream is thick and almost hard, but once applied to the warmth of the skin, it melts and spreads beautifully like butter. It feels nourishing, it absorbs well, but doesn’t disappear completely, so your skin feels like it has a nice protective layer to keep the moisture in. You don’t need a lot of product. I use about a pea sized amount (or two) for my entire face, and it works better than when I slather on any other moisturizer. I would suggest starting with less, and adding more as needed so that it does not feel oily. As the name implies, it is comprised of different types of oils, and the texture definitely feels like, it, but with the additional body of a cream. I had used some products that burnt my skin and left my skin a scaly dry mess, and this moisturizer brought my skin back to normal within 7-10 days. Given how moisturizing and thick this cream is, it still feels light and it is not occlusive and does not clog my pores.
I gave price 4 lippies because it is not the cheapest cream, but it is not offensively expensive either. Given the amount of product you need per use, and its performance I find it relatively good value. I tried to find less expensive alternatives, but given the amount of the other creams I needed to use, and how they under-performed, I am happy to repurchase this one (p.s. Shu Uemura has sales 2-3 times a year where you can get 25-30% off). The product comes in a beautiful jar, and some may complain that it is unsanitary since you have to dip your finger in. For that I usually tend to use the back of my nail to scoop out what I need, or you can use a little stick/qtip if it bothers you. It has a light floral scent. I highly recommend if you’re dealing with a dry skin issues!
