Had this not been on sale I would have never picked this one up. While I am a huge fan of the Audacious formula and own many, this is a cool toned deep chocolate brown [think cacao not milk chocolate] which almost leans grey in undertone on my warm skin, leaving me to look a bit paler than I already am. I know, scary, right? One would think but nope! This shade works as a wonderful base color for various topper shades, creating numerous combinations which are lovely and incredibly unique… This color looks amazing with red (lipstick or glosses) over it, creating uniqueness in shade range(s) and depth, anything from deep cherry to interesting berry looks. My fave Aya/red combo is Mac’s Ruby Woo lip glass – stunning, unique, and editorial-like. My second favorite combo is to use BECCA Topaz and Guilt gloss topper over Aya – this creates a gorgeous purple/brown shift shade. This is also beautiful mixed/topped with orange glosses. As a stand alone shade, this would look stunning on very pale skin as well as dark skin tones.
I have already left reviews of the audacious formula, which is consistent across the board re all shades – it is smooth, creamy, no feathering, long wearing, extremely comfortable. However, I wanted to review this specific shade because it is so unique and versatile in comparison to all of the others, which can easily be duped in terms of shade range (although NOT dupe-able in formulation!). Aya is the only one which I can create numerous other colors out of via mixing with different shades, so I felt it deserved its own review.
I am unsure if this is being discontinued or not – it is still $34.00 on the NARS website and in store but is discounted at Nordstrom Rack at $15.00. If you like to have fun with shades, I say grab this one if you find it on sale!
