This shampoo made my hair SO shiny, soft and manageable. The smell is refreshing – natural smell of green apple that’s stays in your hair for a good while. It’s natural, sulfate free.

I have got to stop watching YouTube. I am not sure anymore who is getting stuff for free and who is paying for it and this brand seems all over YouTube and Instagram lately. I bought this and the matching conditioner and I am very underwhelmed. They are expensive – $28.00 a bottle. For that price, I am expecting a lot but this did not deliver for me. I have fine, thin hair that is highlighted and dry due to the bleaching. It is a tough head of hair as I need body and I also need something that will keep the frizz away so I am asking a lot of a hair product but at $28, I feel I should get a lot. This shampoo does not weigh my hair down which is about the only plus for me. It somehow makes it feel smooth but still look very rough with a LOT of flyaways. It has no harsh sulfates and no silicons which I appreciate but it does have that odd lathering feel many sulfate free shampoos have – it lathers but there is little slip to it so it feels odd spreading it around. I will use this with a couple of the heavy protein conditioners I have as they smooth down my hair totally but I won’t be buying this again.

FYI, the official name of this product is “Briogeo Be Gentle Be Kind Matcha + Apple Replenishing Superfood Shampoo.” I saw it on Sephora and was intrigued. I have celiac disease and respiratory issues, so it’s difficult to find hair care products that are gluten-free, not overpoweringly perfumed, and make my hair look good. Most of those that meet the first two requirements don’t do much for my hair–it was looking dry and a bit ragged–so I decided to give this a try. I’m glad I did. The concept is kind of silly–the shampoo is supposed to mimic a “superfood” smoothie, and the ingredient list reads like a menu–but it works. It’s a very concentrated, thick, light-green shampoo that smells of the extracts in it, but mostly like green apples–or, more accurately, a Green Apple Jolly Rancher candy. (Fragrance is the last ingredient.) I find it a medium-heavy but pleasant scent. I tolerated it surprisingly well (probably because it’s non-synthetic, but, as with all things scented, YMMV–try to give it a sniff in-store if you are sensitive), and it lingers in the hair only a bit after drying. It lathers up beautifully, but I think I used a bit too much (more than a quarter-size dollop for my layered, just-below-the-earlobes bob) because rinsing it out took a bit of effort. I followed it up with the conditioner and let it air dry. Wow. Shiny, bouncy, pretty, very-lightly-scented hair. This is going to be a regular in my haircare lineup. The plastic container is like a milk bottle–a rounded square that’s quite squat, but doesn’t take up a ton of space–and it has a flip-top dispenser. It’s very easy to open and dispense as much as you need in the shower without the bottle slipping from your hands. It’s somewhat pricey at $28 for 12.5 oz, but for me, it’s well worth it. I will repurchase.
